Predicting the Rainfall-Triggered Landslides in a Forested Mountain Region Using TRIGRS Model

Landslides are natural disasters which can pose a serious threat to human and property in many areas around the world. The Transient Rainfall Infiltration and Grid-based Regional Slope-stability (TRIGRS) model was used to investigate the rainfall-induced shallow landslides in a forested mountain region, Korea. Various input data for TRIGRS model include time-varying rainfall, topographic characteristics, soil depth, material strength, and hydraulic properties. A series of calculations were conducted in determining the slope stability over the Jangheung region in Korea during the storm occurred on August 6, 1998. The results show that TRIGRS model captured about 64.1% of landslides that were extracted from the IKONOS2 imageries. The model demonstrated how the factor of safety changed with time during a storm considering both the transient and spatial responses of pore water pressure in its slope stability calculation.

Medicinal plants or Chinese materia medica(CMM)are now attracting worldwide attention as they have increasingly prominent advantages over chemical drugs in disease treatment and *** the 1990s,World Health Organization(WHO)and International Organization for Standardization established the Technical Committee of Traditional Chinese Medicine(ISO/TC 249)have carried out the development of quality standards on medicinal plants or CMMs respectively,and a considerable number of monographs and international standards have been *** the two international organizations adhere to different principles,the standards they develop naturally have different *** by market demand and international trade,ISO mainly takes quality,efficacy and safety into consideration when developing standards,while WHO pays more attention to clinical practice,quality control and medication *** to now,there is a lack of comparative analysis on the records,background,principles,basic content,and main requirements of quality standards on medicinal plants or CMMs respectively published by WHO and ***,based on international standards of CMM developed by ISO/TC 249 platform and WHO Monographs on Selected Medicinal Plants,this paper systematically compares the purposes,selected principles,standard-developing process,basic content,and main quality requirements to summarize their similarities and differences,and find their merits,aiming to serve as a reference to the development of international standards for CMMs that helps them go global.

Müller cells(MC) are considered dormant retinal progenitor cells in *** studies demonstrated ephrin-As act as negative regulators of neural progenitor cells in the retina and *** remains unclear whether the lack of ephrin-A2/A3 is sufficient to promote the neurogenic potential of *** we investigated whether the MC is the primary retinal cell type expressing ephrin-A2/A3 and their role on the neurogenic potential of Müller *** this study, we showed that ephrin-A2/A3 and their receptor EphA4 were expressed in retina and especially enriched in *** level of ephrin As/EphA4 expression increased as the retina matured that is correlated with the reduced proliferative and progenitor cell potential of ***, we investigated the proliferation in primary MC cultures isolated from wild-type and A2~(–/–) A3~(–/–) mice by 5-ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine(EdU) *** detected a significant increase of EdU~+ cells in MC derived from A2~(–/–) A3~(–/–) ***, we investigated the role of ephrin-A2/A3 in mice undergoing photoreceptor degeneration such as Rhodopsin knockout(Rho~(–/–)) *** further evaluate the role of ephrin-A2/A3 in MC proliferation in vivo, EdU was injected intraperitoneally to adult wild-type, A2~(–/–) A3~(–/–), Rho~(–/–) and Rho~(–/–) A2~(–/–) A3~(–/–) mice and the numbers of EdU~+ cells distributed among different layers of the *** As/EphA4 expression was upregulated in the retina of Rho~(–/–) mice compared to the wild-type *** addition, cultured MC derived from ephrin-A2~(–/–) A3~(–/–) mice also expressed higher levels of progenitor cell markers and exhibited higher proliferation potential than those from wild-type ***, we detected a significant increase of EdU~+ cells in the retinas of adult ephrin-A2~(–/–) A3~(–/–) mice mainly in the inner nuclear layer;and these EdU~+ cells were co-localized with MC marker, cellular retinaldehyde-binding protein, suggesting some proliferating cells are from

OBJECTIVE: To quantitatively evaluate the therapeutic effects of Red Liriope platyphylla(RLP) on atopic dermatitis(AD), alterations in the luciferase(Luc) signal and general phenotype biomarkers were compared in phthalic anhydride(PA) treated Interleukin-4(IL-4)/Luc/Consensus non-coding sequence-1(CNS-1) transgenic(Tg) mice following treatment with aqueous extract of RLP(AEt RLP) for4 ***: Alterations in AD phenotypes were measured in IL-4/Luc/CNS-1 Tg mice following treatment with AEt RLP using inflammation parameter analysis, bioluminescence imaging analysis, histological analysis, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, enzyme linked immunosorbent assay and Western blot ***: RLP contained high concentrations of total phenolic compounds, total flavonoid compounds and 5-HNE related to AD therapy. The Luc signal was only detected in the abdominal region and the submandibular lymph node(SL), mesenteric lymph node(ML), thymus and pancreas of the PA treated group. This signal was significantly decreased by 28%-73% throughout the body and in the four organs in PA + AEt RLP treated group. Furthermore, the lymph node weight, immunoglobulin E concentration and dermal thickness were decreased by 37%-67% in the PA + AEt RLP treated ***: Our findings suggest that the therapeutic effect of AEt RLP on PA induced AD could be successfully quantified by comparison of Luc signals and AD phenotype markers in IL-4/Luc/CNS-1Tg mice, and that the Luc signal was as sensitive as the general AD phenotypes, enabling detection of effects without euthanasia.

Portal vein thrombosis(PVT)is no longer a definitive contraindication in liver transplants(LTs)[1].Complex vascular reconstructions such as cavoportal hemitransposition(CPHT)[2–5],renoportal anastomosis(RPA)[6,7],and use of sizable collaterals(pericholedochal varix[8,9],coronary vein,peripancreatic or perigastroesophageal varices[10],right superior colic vein[11],ileocolic vein[12],and left gastric vein[13]),or combined liverpancreas-small bowel transplant[14]are required for portal inflow in patients with total portosplenomesenteric thrombosis.
