Schisandrae Fructus, containing schisandrin B (Sch B) as its main active component, is recognized in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for its Qi-invigorating properties in the five visceral organs. Our laboratory has shown that the Qi-invigorating action of Chinese tonifying herbs is linked to increased mitochondrial ATP generation and an enhancement in mitochondrial glutathione redox status. To explore whether Sch B can exert Qi-invigorating actions across various tissues, we investigated the effects of Sch B treatment on mitochondrial ATP generation and glutathione redox status in multiple mouse tissues ex vivo. In line with TCM theory, which posits that Zheng Qi generation relies on the Qi function of the visceral organs, we also examined Sch B’s impact on natural killer cell activity and antigen-induced splenocyte proliferation, both serving as indirect measures of Zheng Qi. Our findings revealed that Sch B treatment consistently enhanced mitochondrial ATP generation and improved mitochondrial glutathione redox status in mouse tissues. This boost in mitochondrial function was associated with stimulated innate and adaptive immune responses, marked by increased natural killer cell activity and antigen-induced T/B cell proliferation, potentially through the increased generation of Zheng Qi.

The relationship between land use and water quality status is complex and likely to be site-specific,and more work is needed for it to be clearly *** National Cheng Kung University,No 1 University Road,Tainan 701ore,the main objective of this paper was thus to identify and investigate status of waterbodies(lakes and rivers)by using appropriate predictive index assessment tool coupled with the offered Adaptive Co-Management(ACM)methodology towards sustainability of water quality and ecology in *** then present a comprehensive assessment as baseline information to describe the existing condition of waterbody status in study *** results indicated that the basic requirements of predictive index assessment tool,expressed as indicator:criteria and attributes,are use-specific or targeted to the protection of the watershed and waterbodies uses among a number of land use *** some situations,even stricter requirements and policies are necessary to achieve sustainability of water quality and ecology in Indonesia.

AIM: To determine the use and teratogenicity of herbal medicinal products (HMP). METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted in a University hospital to compare the difference in the pattern of use and fetal outcomes between pregnant women who took HMP and Western pharmaceutical products (WPP). RESULTS: From 1995 Jan to 2001 Dec, 61 and 372 women took HMP and WPP one month before or during their current pregnancies respectively. There was an increase in the prevalence of pregnant women who took HMP from 0 % in 1995 to 0.8 % in 2001. Among HMP users, 51.6 %, 82.8 % and 58.6 % of them had low monthly family income (<15 000), low education level (secondary education or below) and were unemployed respectively. In comparison to WPP, pregnant women used smaller number of HMP (1.4 vs 3.0, P<0.01) at a later gestation (4.8 weeks vs 3.1 weeks, P <0.01) and within a shorter duration (11.1 d vs 47.9 d, P<0.01). Land use reflects human activities on *** land use is the highest level human alteration on Earth,and it is rapidly changing due to population increase and *** areas have widespread effects on local hydrology,climate,biodiversity,and food production[1,2].However,maps,that contain knowledge on the distribution,pattern and composition of various land use types in urban areas,are limited to city *** mapping standard on data sources,methods,land use classification schemes varies from city to city,due to differences in financial input and skills of mapping *** address various national and global environmental challenges caused by urbanization,it is important to have urban land uses at the national and global scales that are derived from the same or consistent data sources with the same or compatible classification systems and mapping *** is because,only with urban land use maps produced with similar criteria,consistent environmental policies can be made,and action efforts can be compared and assessed for large scale environmental ***,despite of the fact that a number of urban-extent maps exist at global scales[3,4],more detailed urban land use maps do not exist at the same *** at big country or regional levels such as for the United States,China and European Union,consistent land use mapping efforts are rare[5,6](e.g.,https://***/open_land_use/).

An all-transistor active-inductor shunt-peaking structure has been used in a prototype of 8 Gbps high- speed VCSEL driver which is designed for the optical link in ATLAS liquid Argon calorimeter upgrade. The VCSEL driver is fabricated in a commercial 0.25 p^m Silicon-on-Sapphire （SOS） CMOS process for radiation tolerant purpose. The all-transistor active-inductor shunt-peaking is used to overcome the bandwidth limitation from the CMOS pro- cess. The peaking structure has the same peaking effect as the passive one, but takes a small area, does not need linear resistors and can overcome the process variation by adjust the peaking strength via an external control. The design has been taped out, and the prototype has been proven by the preliminary electrical test results and bit error ratio test results. The driver achieves 8 Gbps data rate as simulated with the peaking. We present the all-transistor active-inductor shunt-peaking structure, simulation and test results in this paper.

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the efficacy on the combination of oral strontium ranelate(Sr R)with a topical Chinese herbal paste on facilitation of fracture ***:An open fracture was created at the mid-shaft of the right tibia of rat.A herbal pastecalled CDR containing Honghua(Flos Carthami),Chuanxuduan(Radix Dipsaci Asperoidis)and Dahuang(Radix Et Rhizoma Rhei Palmati)was *** rats were treated with either CDR topically on the fracture site,or Sr R orally,or their *** turnover biochemical markers in serum were *** of the fracture was analyzed using micro-CT after 14 and 28 d,followed by histomorphometrical ***:Micro-computed tomography analysis revealed that the combined treatment of CDR with600 mg/g Sr R significantly increased the total callus density,mineralized callus volume fraction,mineralized callus mineral content and mineralized callus density of the callus after 28 d of *** result was consistent with the histomorphometrical analysis on the osteoid *** of biochemical markers showed that the combined treatments reduced the bone resorption that occurs temporarily after ***:This study demonstrated that the combined treatment of oral Sr R and topical CDR is effective to promote fracture healing by their additive effect on promoting bone formation and retarding bone resorption.
