Non-invasive prediction of endometriosis revisited;3 biomarkers as Angiopoietin-2, Interleukin-1β and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor

Introduction: Endometriosis affects up to 1 every 5 women at their reproductive age, with variable and complex symptomatology. Patients may be asymptomatic but may have pain episodes or subfertility. Its negative impact is on patients’ health and quality of life. Objective: it was to investigate the serum and peritoneal fluid (PF) concentrations of Angiopoietin- 2, Interleukin-1β, and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, aiming to evaluate their diagnostic performance in endometriosis. Methods: Serum and peritoneal fluid samples were taken from 112 women undergoing laparoscopy for infertility, pelvic pain or adnexal masses. 61 diagnosed with endometriosis and 51 controlled. Primary outcome was to estimate serum and PF concentrations of Angio-2, IL-1β and VEGF and secondarily correlate these concentrations to disease stages thus assuming their diagnostic potential. Results: Significant differences were found between patients and control as regards serum and PF concentration of all studied markers except serum IL-1β. Serum Angio-2 and PF VEGF showed a significantly higher level in more advanced stages of endometriosis. PF VEGF showed a positively significant correlation with the stage of the disease, spearman coefficient t = 0.442 p = 0.014. PF concentrations of Angio-2 and Serum VEGF did not show significant pattern changes with stage-related levels. Diagnostic potential of serum and PF concentrations of the 3 markers were assessed by the ROC curve. Angio-2 proved an excellent diagnostic ability for endometriosis. PF and serum VEGF proved an equal diagnostic performance, whereas, PF IL-1β was the least efficient. Based on the results, we suggested preliminary serum threshold values for these markers to be used as diagnostic or follow-up landmarks with relatively acceptable sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values. Effect of phosphoric acid concentration on conductivity of anodic passive film formed on surface of lead-indium alloy

The addition of phosphoric acid into sulfuric acid solution is mentioned to be helpful in the reduction of sulfation after deep discharge of lead-acid battery. The anodic behavior of Pb and Pb?In alloys was studied in pure phosphoric acid and sulfuric acid containing various concentrations of phosphoric. The electrochemical measurements were performed using potentiodynamic, potentiostatic and cyclic voltammetric techniques. The composition and morphology of passive layer formed on the surfaces of Pb and Pb?In alloys were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis (EDX) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The potentiodynamic study shows that the passive current density increases with increasing the indium content in the alloy in the examined solutions. The addition of 0.1 mol/L H3PO4 into theelectrolyte is more effective to decrease the thickness of passive film on the surface of alloys containing higher indium content (10% and 15%). The XRD, EDX and SEM data reveal that the formation of PbSO4 and PbO on the surface decreases with increasing the indium level in the alloy and is completely prevented at higher indium content (15%) in mixed acid.

The Impact of Neutrophil to Lymphocytic Ratio (NLR) as a Predictor of Treatment Outcomes in Rectal Carcinomas: A Retrospective Cohort Study

Background and aim: The prognostic role of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has been shown in many solid tumors included in a recent meta-analysis of one hundred studies. We aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio in treatment outcomes;response and survival of patients with different stages of rectal cancers. Patients and methods: All patients with pathologically confirmed cancer rectum presented to our department during the period from January 2012 to the end of 2014 were included in this retrospective study, these recruited patients were evaluated through their files to determine different objectives of our study. Results: The median overall survival was 31 ± 4.676 months while disease free survival was 40 ± 2.346 for the whole study group;neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio was negatively correlated with overall survival with r = –0.743, P disease free survival with r = –0.717, P total number of lymph nodes dissected ratio with r = +0.254, P = 0.028. Roc curve was used to find the accurate cut point of NLR for these patients and was found to be of 4.5. Conclusion: Elevated pre-treatment NLR is an independent predictor of shorter survival in patients with rectal cancer. This parameter is a simple, easily accessible laboratory test for identifying patients with poorer prognosis.

Influence of ozone on the rheological and electrical properties of stored human blood

Blood stored in a blood bank undergoes a series of chemical changes and storage lesions. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of ozone on the rheological and electrical properties of stored human blood. Venous blood samples, obtained from three healthy humans, were treated with different concentrations of ozone （30, 50, 70 and 80 ~tg/mL） for three weeks in vitro. Ozone was generated from portable medical-grade oxygen using elec- trical corona arc discharge. The ultraviolet-visible absorption of hemoglobin in the wavelength of 300-700 nm showed that ozone in this range did not interact with iron ions and it was not toxic below the concentration of 80 ~tg/mL. The changes of blood viscosity were also measured. The electrical conductivity and permittivity, in the frequency range from 5 to 50 MHz, were measured in the control and treated samples subjected to different concentrations of ozone at different stored periods. The results showed that the conductivity and permittivity measurements may serve as a useful indicator in the quality assessment of blood samples stored in the blood bank.

New simple spectrophotometric method for determination of the binary mixtures(atorvastatin calcium and ezetimibe;candesartan cilexetil and hydrochlorothiazide) in tablets

A new simple spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of binary mixtures without prior *** method is based on the generation of ratio spectra of compound X by using a standard spectrum of compound Y as a *** peak to trough amplitudes between two selected wavelengths in the ratio spectra are proportional to concentration of X without interference from *** method was demonstrated by determination of two drug *** first consists of the two antihyperlipidemics：atorvastatin calcium（ATV） and ezetimibe（EZE）,and the second comprises the antihypertensives：candesartan cilexetil（CAN） and hydrochlorothiazide（HCT）.For mixture 1,ATV was determined using 10 μg/mL EZE as the divisor to generate the ratio spectra,and the peak to trough amplitudes between 231 and 276 nm were plotted against ATV ***,by using 10 μg/mL ATV as divisor,the peak to trough amplitudes between 231 and 276 nm were found proportional to EZE *** curves were linear in the range 2.5-40 mg/mL for both *** mixture 2,divisor concentration was 7.5 μg/mL for both *** was determined using its peak to trough amplitudes at 251 and 277 nm,while HCT was estimated using the amplitudes between 251 and 276 *** measured amplitudes were linearly correlated to concentration in the ranges 2.5-50 and 1-30 μg/mL for CAN and HCT,*** proposed spectrophotometric method was validated and successfully applied for the assay of both drug combinations in several laboratory-prepared mixtures and commercial tablets.

Office Hysteroscopy in Difficult Embryo Transfer;Case Report of Three Cases

Objectives: To facilitate embryo transfer technique in cases with previous failed or difficult transfer using office hysteroscopy. Study Design: Case report of 3 cases of previous difficult embryo transfer (ET). Methods: Hysteroscopic assisted insertion of cervical stent at the end of withdrawal bleeding in the stimulation cycle. This stent was used as a track for embryo transfer catheter. Results: One case cancelled before (embryo transfer) ET and the other 2 cases didn’t get pregnant in spite of easy embryo transfer. Conclusion: This hysteroscopic assisted ET technique may facilitate ET technique in cases with difficult embryo transfer due to deformed cervix.

Impacts of Online Remote Education on the Learning Process among Nursing Students

The period of existence and spread of Corona virus has led to the use of all means of remote education as an urgent necessity for all educational facilities, especially universities. Aim: Therefore, it was necessary to study the impacts of online remote education on the learning process among nursing students through studying of two courses;health information management at 6th semester and gerontology nursing course at 4th semester. Tool of Data Collection: A modified questionnaire comprised of forty statements was used through paper-based survey and online survey. Sample: A total samples (224) of nursing students were participated in the survey who enrolled in 2019 and 2020 spring semesters. Setting: The field of study was the nursing department of Applied Medical Science at Misr University for Science and Technology. Results: Induced positive impacts of online education on the learning process for nursing students experience were proven as more than half of the students (53.9%) had prior experience on online system use, and more than two thirds (62.5%) were competent in mobile/computer applications. Almost, two thirds (59.3%) agreed about online assessment experience, except that the online exam was anxious, and the time was insufficient to answer all questions. Also, more than two thirds (64.7%) agreed about the learning process of the two nursing courses. Conclusion: The study concluded that there were positive impacts of online education system on the learning process for nursing students except that the students were not able to decide that the remote online education system can replace traditional face-to-face learning as the clinical experience was not evaluated through this study. Synthesis and Characterization of Novel μ-Carbonato Tetranuclear Copper Complexes [(Pip)_4nCu₄X₄(CO₃)₂] in Aprotic Media

In this work, novel oxidative coupling complexes, [(Pip)4nCu4X4(CO3)2] (n = 1 or 2, X = Cl or Br, Pip = piperidine), are synthesized from the reaction of well characterized Lewis base [(Pip)4nCu4X4O2] with carbon dioxide as a Lewis acid in CH2Cl2. These carbonato-derivatives are isolated as stable solids. They are easily soluble in aprotic solvents as CH2Cl2or phNO2. Cryoscopic measurements support tetranuclear structure for all of them. Electronic spectra in the near infrared with high molecular absorptivity may be explained for tetranuclear cuban structure to fulfil 3 halo-ligands for each copper centre in [(Pip)4nCu4X4(CO3)2]. The EPR spectra for [(Pip)4nCu4X4(CO3)2] complexes are axial type of spectra (dx2-y2 G.S) suggesting elongated tetragonal distortion for all of them. Cyclic voltammograms for [(Pip)4nCu4X4(CO3)2] are irreversible in character. These tetranuclear carbonato complexes show catalytical activity. They initiate the oxidation of 2,6-dimethylphenol (DMP) to 3,3’,5,5’-tetramethyl-4,4’-diphenoquinone (DPQ).

Kinetics of Oxidation of 2,6-Dimethylphenol (DMP) Using Novel μ-Carbonato [(Pip)_4nCu₄X₄(CO₃)₂] Complexes

This paper reports the kinetics of the oxidation of 2,6-dimethylphenol (DMP) to get 3,3’,5,5’-tetra- methyl-4,4’-diphenoquinone (DPQ) using novel oxidative coupling complexes [(Pip)4nCu4X4-(CO3)2] (n = 1 or 2, X = Cl or Br, Pip = piperidine). The new prepared tetranuclear complexes were characterized using cryoscopic measurements, electronic spectra, FTIR, EPR and cyclic voltammetry techniques. These complexes are catalytically active. The proposed mechanism of the catalytic oxidative coupling can be illustrated as a pre-equilibrium, K, between the catalyst and DMP to form a complex intermediate which is converted to activated complex through the rate determining step, k2, to form the final product. The inverse of the observed rate constants kobsd versus 1/[DMP]2 gives a straight line with intercept. From the slope and the intercept, both K and k2 are obtained. At different temperatures, thermodynamic and kinetic parameters are evaluated. It is worth to mention that, the dependence of kobsd on [DMP]2 indicates that the coordination number for every copper center in both n = 1 or 2 in [(Pip)4nCu4X4(CO3)2] is equal to six. Therefore, carbonato bridging centers in n = 1 acts as a tridentate ligand, while for n = 2 acts as a bidentate ligand.

Sarcopenia is highly prevalent in community dwelling older adults in many countries;however, the prevalence of sarcopenia in nursing home older residents is not well characterized. The aim of this study is to assess the prevalence of sarcopenia in nursing home older residents in Cairo. Cross sectional study was performed among 150 nursing homes residents in Cairo. The European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP) recommendation was used for diagnosing sarcopenia. The study showed that the prevalence of sarcopenia in nursing home older residents in Cairo was 17.3%;22.6% in elderly men and 13.6% in elderly women. Age, underweight and lack of physical activity were found to be associated with sarcopenia among studied participants. The study concluded that sarcopenia is an emerging health problem in nursing home older residents in Cairo.
