Experience of primary intestinal lymphangiectasia in adults: Twelve case series from a tertiary referral hospital

BACKGROUND While primary intestinal lymphangiectasia(PIL)is considered a rare condition,there have been several reported cases in ***,the absence of clear guidance from diagnosis to treatment and prognosis poses challenges for both physicians and *** To enhance understanding by investigating clinical presentation,diagnosis,treatment,complications,and prognoses in adult PIL *** We enrolled adult patients diagnosed with PIL between March 2016 and September *** primary outcome involved examining the diagnosis and treatment process of these *** secondary outcomes included identifying complications(infections,thromboembolism)and assessing prognoses(frequency of hospitalization and mortality)during the follow-up *** Among the 12 included patients,peripheral edema(100%)and diarrhea(75%)were the main presenting *** tests showed that all the pati-ents exhibited symptoms of hypoalbuminemia and ***,the predominant findings were edema of the small intestine(67%)and ascites(58%).The typical endoscopic finding with a snowflake appearance was observed in 75%of *** the 12 patients,two responded positive-ly to octreotide and sirolimus,and eight who could undergo maintenance therapy discontinued *** due to PIL led to infection in half of the patients,thromboembolism in three patients,and one *** PIL can be diagnosed in adults across various age groups,with different severity and treatment responses among patients,leading to diverse complications and ***,tailored treatments will be *** anticipate that our findings will contribute to the management of PIL,an etiology of protein-losing enteropathy.

Developing highly efficient and durable catalysts for future electrochemical and energy applications is one of the main subjects of current studies in renewable energy generation. In the past several years, researchers have developed Pt-based alloy electrocatalyst nanomaterials that exhibit promising electrocatalytic properties for various electrochemical applications. The efficient structural and morphological control of Pt-based alloy materials plays a decisive role in achieving these enhanced electrocatalytic properties. The present review article emphasizes the recent progress and important developments in the synthesis and electrocatalytic applications of Pt-group-based nanodendrite materials. The following review will help the exploration and development of better catalysts for practical applications and aims to elucidate the nanodendrite structure of Pt-group metals.

Efficacy of uncovered self-expandable metallic stent for colorectal obstruction by extracolonic malignancy

BACKGROUND Self-expandable metallic stent(SEMS)is widely used for malignant colorectal ***,SEMS has been used for palliative option for colorectal obstruction caused by extracolonic malignancy(ECM).AIM To evaluate the efficacy of SEMS for colorectal obstruction caused by ECM,and to identify the factors associated with stent *** Seventy-two patients who were treated with uncovered SEMS insertion for malignant colorectal obstructions caused by colorectal metastasis or peritoneal seeding of ECM at Samsung Medical Center between April 2012 to March 2016 were *** analyzed technical and clinical outcomes of stent insertion,the factors associated with stent occlusion and long term outcomes after stent *** Technical success rate was determined as 90.3%with a clinical success rate of 87.7%.Stent occlusion developed in 28.1%,with a median duration of 51 ***,81.3%with stent occlusion could be treated with secondary stent *** failure was observed to be related to the male sex(P=0.020)and right colon obstruction(P=0.017).Stent length≤10 cm was found to be associated with stent occlusion(P=0.003).Median survival time after stent insertion was 4.7 mo and 40.4%were able to receive their oncological treatments after stent insertion without *** Uncovered SEMS is effective for the treatment of colorectal obstruction caused by ECM,considering life expectancy of patients with ECM.

The development of drug-resistant influenza and new pathogenic virus strains underscores the need for antiviral ***,neuraminidase(NA)inhibitors are commonly used antiviral drugs approved by the US Food and Drug Administration(FDA)for the prevention and treatment of ***,we show that vitisin B(VB)inhibits NA activity and suppresses H1N1 viral replication in MDCK and A549 *** oxygen species(ROS),which frequently occur during viral infection,increase virus replication by activating the NF-κB signaling pathway,downmodulating glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase(G6PD)expression,and decreasing the expression of nuclear factor erythroid2-related factor 2(Nrf2)antioxidant response *** decreased virus-induced ROS generation by increasing G6PD expression and Nrf2 activity,and inhibiting NF-κB translocation to the nucleus through IKK *** addition,VB reduced body weight loss,increased survival,decreased viral replication and the inflammatory response in the lungs of influenza A virus(IAV)-infected *** together,our results indicate that VB is a promising therapeutic candidate against IAV infection,complements existing drug limitations targeting viral *** modulated the intracellular ROS by G6PD,Nrf2 antioxidant response pathway,and NF-κB signaling *** results demonstrate the feasibility of a multi-targeting drug strategy,providing new approaches for drug discovery against IAV infection.

Insights into the pathogenesis of cystoid macular edema: leukostasis and related cytokines

Cystoid macular edema(CME) is the abnormal collection of intraretinal fluid in the macular region, especially in the inner nuclear and outer plexiform layers. CME leads to severe visual impairment in patients with various retinal diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusion, choroidal neovascularization, and uveitis. Although various retinal conditions lead to CME, a shared pathogenesis of CME is involved in these diseases. Accordingly, the pathogenesis of CME based on vasogenic mechanisms is first discussed in this review, including vascular hyperpermeability, leukostasis, and inflammation. We then describe cytotoxic mechanisms based on retinal Müller cell dysfunction. This comprehensive review will provide an understanding of the pathogenesis of CME for potential therapeutic strategies.

Strengthening mechanisms analysis and tailoring of bimodal grain structures for enhanced strength in CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloys

The CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloys(HEAs)with a(face-centered cubic) FCC structure has garnered considerable attention for its exceptional ductility and strain hardening ***,its yield strength is insufficient for structural *** this study,strengthening mechanisms in these HEAs were investigated to gain insight into the mechanical properties according to alloy powder ***,we present a novel approach to achieve both high strength and high ductility through the creation of a bimodal structure consisting of both coarse and fine grains via gas atomization and spark plasma sintering processes.A bimodally structured HEA prepared with a mass ratio of 2:8 between coarse particles(75-106 μm) and fine particles(≤25 μm)yielded optimal results,with a strength of 491.95 MPa and elongation of 19.64%.This strength value represents an~41% increase compared with the sample that displayed a fine single microstructure(347.08 MPa for yield strength).The strength enhancement was attributed to the prevention of plastic deformation initiation from the fine particles during *** innovative approach to the creation of HEAs with bimodal structures shows promise for various applications,such as structural components that require a combination of high strength and high ductility.

Dual in-situ observation of tribochemical and morphological evolution of single-layer WS_(2)and multi-layer WS_(2)/C coatings

The outstanding tribological performance of transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs)is attributed to their unique sandwich microstructure and low interlayer shear *** advantageous structure allows TMDs to demonstrate exceptional friction reduction ***,the incorporation of TMDs and amorphous carbon(a-C)in multi-layer structures shows excellent potential for further enhancing tribological and anti-oxidation *** carbon,known for its high ductility,chemical inertness,and excellent wear resistance,significantly contributes to the overall performance of these multi-layer *** gain an in-depth understanding of the tribological mechanism and evolution of TMDs’multi-layer coatings,a dual in-situ analysis was carried out using a tribometer equipped with a 3D laser microscope and a Raman *** innovative approach allowed for a comprehensive evolution of the tribological,topographical,and tribochemical characteristics of both single-layer WS_(2)and multi-layer WS_(2)/C coatings in real *** findings from the dual in-situ tribotest revealed distinct failure characteristics between the single-layer WS_(2)coating and the multi-layer WS_(2)/C *** single-layer WS_(2)coating predominantly experienced failure due to mechanical removal,whereas a combination of mechanical removal and tribochemistry primarily influenced the failure of the multi-layer WS_(2)/C *** tribological evolution process of these two coatings can be classified into four stages on the basis of their tribological behavior:the running-in stage,stable friction stage,re-deposition stage,and lubrication failure *** stage represents a distinct phase in the tribological behavior of the coatings and contributes to our understanding of their behavior during sliding.
