Recent advances in mouse models of obesity-and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis-associated hepatocarcinogenesis

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is the fifth most common cancer, and obesity has been established as a risk factor for HCC development. Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH) is apparently the key link between obesity and hepatocarcinogenesis, and obesity also accelerates HCC development synergistically with other risk factors, such as hepatitis virus infection and alcohol consumption. As an explanation for the pathogenesis of NASH, the so-called "two-hit" theory has been widely accepted, but recently, a better model, the so-called "multiple-hits hypothesis" was proposed, which states that many disease-promoting factors may occur in parallel, rather than consecutively. However, the overall mechanism remains largely unknown. Various cell-cell and organ-organ interactions are involved in the pathogenesis of NASH, and thus appropriate in vivo disease models are essential for a deeper understanding. However, replicating the full spectrum of human NASH has been difficult, as NASH involves obesity, insulin resistance, steatohepatitis, fibrosis, and ultimately HCC, and the lack of an appropriate mouse model has been a considerable barrier to determining the missing links among obesity, NASH, and HCC. In recent years, several innovative mouse models presenting obesity- and NASHassociated HCC have been established by modified diets, chemotoxic agents, genetic manipulation, or a combination of these factors, shedding some light on this complex network and providing new therapeutic strategies. Thus, in this paper, I review the mouse models of obesity- and NASH-associated HCC, especially focusing on recent advances and their clinical relevance.

Measurement of D（d,p）T Reaction Cross Sections in Sm Metal in Low Energy Region （10 ≤ Ed ≤20 keV）

To study the screening effect of nuclear reactions in metallic environments, the thick target yields, the cross sections and the experimental S（E） factors of the D（d, p）T reaction have been measured on deuterons implanted in Sm metal at 133.2K for beam energies ranging from 10 to 20 ke V. The thick target yields of protons emitted in the D（d, p）T reaction are measured and compared with those data extrapolated from cross sections and stopping power data at higher energies. The screening potential in Sm metal at 133.2K is deduced to be 520±56eV. As compared with the value achieved in the gas target, the calculated screening potential values are much larger. This screening potential cannot be simply interpreted only by the electron screening. Energy dependences of the cross section σ（E） and the experimental S（E） factor for D（d,p）T reaction in Sm metal at 133.2K are obtained, respectively.

Improvement of regional cerebral blood flow after oral intake of ranched-chain amino acids in patients with cirrhosis

AIM： To evaluate the effect of oral intake of branchedchain amino acids （BCAA） on brain perfusion in patients with liver cirrhosis. METHODS： Single photon emission computed tomography scans were performed in 43 patients with cirrhosis and in 15 age-matched healthy subjects. Twenty-nine out of forty-three patients were randomly treated with either BCAA granules or placebo, and single photon emission computed tomography was performed before and after the treatment. We measured the regional cerebral blood flow values using a threedimensional stereotaxic region of interest template. RESULTS： Cirrhotic patients had regions of significant hypoperfusion in the bilateral central （right P = 0.039, P〈0.05; left P = 0.006 P〈0.01）, parietal （right P = 0.028, P〈0.05; left P = 0.009, P〈0.01）, angular （right P = 0.039, P〈0.05; left P = 0.008, P〈0.01）, and left pericallosal segments （P = 0.038 P〈0.05） as compared with healthy subjects. A significant increase in cerebral perfusion was observed 70 min after the oral intake of BCAA in the angular （right P = 0.012, P〈0.05; left P = 0.049, P〈0.05）, temporal （right P = 0.012, P〈0.05; left P=0.038, P〈0.05）, pericallosal segments （right P = 0.025, P〈0.05; left P = 0.049, P〈0.05） and left precentral （P = 0.044, P〈0.05）, parietal （P = 0.040, P〈0.05） and thalamus （P = 0.033, P〈0.05）. No significant change in perfusion was observed in the placebo group. CONCLUSION： Administration of BCAA rapidly improves cerebral perfusion.

BACKGROUND Solitary fibrous tumor(SFT)is a rare fibroblastic mesenchymal neoplasm that affects spindle cell soft tissues with broad-spectrum biological behavior;it is predominantly benign,and rarely *** occurs mainly in the tissue structure of the serosa in the pleura and the thorax,and can be found throughout the body,though extra-thoracic localization,including the cephalic region,is *** reported the first case of intracranial malignant SFT metastasized to the chest *** SUMMARY An 81-year-old Japanese man was referred to our hospital due to progressive gait disturbance and appetite *** medical history included partial resection due to brain tumor,four times,and 50-Gray radiation therapy at another hospital,starting when he was 74 years *** unenhanced head computed tomography(CT)scan revealed an 8 cm×5.1 cm×6.5 cm mixed-density mass at the left frontal lobe,accompanying a midline shift,and an unenhanced chest-abdomen CT scan revealed a 6 cm×4.1 cm×6.5 cm low-density mass in the left chest wall.A CT-guided percutaneous lung biopsy was performed,and the pathological findings were SFT corresponding to brain ***,the correct diagnosis of his brain tumor in history of past illness revealed to be SFT,and the unremovable tumor,namely present brain lesions enlarged and metastasized to the chest *** established a definitive diagnosis of intracranial malignant SFT metastasized to the chest *** notified him and his family of the disease,and offered palliative *** passed away on the 29 th hospital *** This case suggests the need for careful,detailed examination,and careful followup when encountering patients presenting with a mass.

This study aimed to identify the reasons for transferring athletes to local medical facilities during the Olympic and Paralympic *** on 567 injuries and other illnesses of athletes treated at the on-site clinics were collected from the Tokyo 2020 Organizing *** these,84 athletes who required outpatient care during the Games were registered for this *** the Olympic and Paralympic Games,66(8.3/1000)and 18(7.2/1000)athletes,respectively,consulted external medical *** the Olympic Games,the reasons for these visits included 48 cases(72.7%)of injuries,13(19.7%)cases of illnesses,and 5(7.6%)cases of heat stroke illness(HSI).Of these patients,56(84.9%)were treated as outpatients and 10(15.1%)were hospitalized,while three of these patients required hospitalization for>7 *** the other hand,in the Paralympics Games,there were 7(38.8%)cases of injuries,9(50.0%)other illnesses,1(5.6%)case of HSI,and 1(5.6%)other cases,of which 11(61.1%)were treated as outpatients and 7(38.9%)were hospitalized,but none was hospitalized for>7 *** accounted for 70%of the total cases at the 2021 Olympic Games,but only three(0.05%)were severe cases that required hospitalization for more than 1 *** contrast,in the Paralympic Games,other illnesses accounted for approximately half of the total *** study provides details on the extent of injuries and other illnesses that were transferred to outside facilities,which has not been documented in previous games.

Application of the COPD Assessment Test (CAT) to Patients with Interstitial Lung Disease

The COPD Assessment Test was recently developed to assess health status in patients with COPD. However, little was known about its application to patients with interstitial lung disease, so we examined the relationship between the COPD Assessment Test score and respiratory impairment including the clinical picture in subjects with interstitial lung disease. Data were collected retrospectively from 52 consecutive subjects with interstitial lung disease on admission to our facility. All subjects completed the COPD Assessment Test, in which a higher score represented a worse health status. They were also assessed by pulmonary function test, SpO2 during 6-min walk test, and arterial blood gases. The COPD Assessment Test score was negatively correlated with the percentage of predicted forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in 1 second, total lung capacity, diffusion capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide, and PaO2 (p = 0.0005, 0.005, 0.0002, 0.0005, and 0.002, respectively). Breathlessness was detected as the high scoring item, while phlegm and sleep were the last affected items. The COPD Assessment Test score was higher in subjects with oxygen desaturation in SpO2 (≥4%) during 6-min walk test (p = 0.0001) and in subjects on home oxygen therapy (p = 0.0007). More than 75% of subjects with oxygen desaturation during walking were classified into a medium or severer impact level of the COPD Assessment Test score, and subjects on home oxygen therapy were classified into a high or severer impact level. PaCO2 in room air and SpO2 at rest did not correlate with the COPD Assessment Test score. The reliability of items in the COPD Assessment Test was 0.87 by Cronbach’s α coefficient. Our results suggest that the COPD Assessment Test may be a candidate for evaluating the health status and impact of disease on patients with interstitial lung disease.

A Novel Concept of AI-EV （Air-Conditioner Integrated Electric Vehicle） for the Advanced Smart Community

In order to expand the natural energy and the energy conservation, ＂the smart PV （photovoltaic power generation）＆ EV （electric vehicle） system＂ has been proposed and the effect has been clarified. In the smart PV ＆ EV system, it is important that electric vehicles become popular. Therefore, the AI-EV （air-conditioner integrated electric vehicle） has been proposed. In this paper, the AI-EV is designed based on the required car air-conditioner capacity. And, the value of AI-EV is compared with a gasoline vehicle, HV （hybrid vehicle） and EV using the mathematical simulation model As a result, it is clarified that the minimum displacement of the small-engine is 120 cc for AI-EV. In the smart PV ＆ EV system, AI-EV can reduce CO_2 emissions by 20% almost the same as EV. Additionally, AI-EV is able to gain the cruising range more than twice as long as EV.

We are developing an optical layer-2s witch network that uses both wavelength-division multiplexing and time-division multiplexing technologies for efficient traffic aggregation in metro *** efficient traffic aggregation,path bandwidth control is key because it strongly affects bandwidth *** this paper,we propose a dynamic time-slot allocation method that uses periodic information of difference values of traffic *** method can derive near-optimal allocation with lower computational cost,which enlarges the maximum available network size compared with conventional time-slot allocation *** results show that the proposed method enables dynamic path control in 1K-node-scale optical layer-2s witch network,which leads to cost-effective metro networks.
