The degradation mechanism of an Sn_4P_3 electrode as Na-ion battery anode was investigated by using a transmission electron microscopic observation. At the first desodiation, we confirmed that Sn nanoparticles with 6 nm in size were dispersed in an amorphous-like P *** to this, we observed aggregated Sn particles with sizes exceeding 50 nm after the drastic capacity fading. The capacity fading mechanism was for the first time confirmed to be Sn aggregation. To improve the capacity decay, we carried out the two kinds of chargeàdischarge cycling tests under the reduced volume changes of Sn particles and P matrix by limiting desodiation reactions of Nae Sn and Na3P, respectively. The Sn_4P_3 electrode exhibited an excellent cyclability with the discharge capacity of 500 mA hg^(-1) for 420 cycles under the limited desodiation, whereas the capacity decay was accelerated under the limited sodiation. The results suggest that the Sn aggregation can be improved by the reduced volume change of the P matrix, and that it is very effective for improving anode performance of Sn_4P_3 electrode.

AIM:To assess the long-term efficacy of seton drainage with infliximab maintenance therapy in treatment of stricture for perianal Crohn’s disease(CD). METHODS:Sixty-two patients with perianal CD who required surgical treatment with or without infliximab between September 2000 and April 2010 were identified from our clinic’s *** activities of the perianal lesions were evaluated using the modified perianal CD activity index(mPDAI)*** primary endpoint was a clinical response at 12-15 wk after surgery as a shortterm *** endpoints were recurrence as reflected in the mPDAI score,defined as increased points in every major *** clinical responses were classified as completely healed(mPDAI=0),partially improved(mPDAI score decreased more than 4 points),and failure or recurrence(mPDAI score increased or decreased less than 3 points). RESULTS:There were 43 males and 19 females,of whom 26 were consecutively treated with infliximab after surgery as maintenance *** healing was not *** was seen in 10/36(27.8%) patients without infliximab and 4/26(15.4%)patients with infliximab(P=0.25).Partial improvement was seen in 26/36(72.2%)patients without infliximab and 22/26(88.5%)patients with infliximab(P=0.25). Short-term improvement was achieved in 48/62(77.4%) *** the mPDAI score improved significantly with surgery regardless of infliximab,it decreased more from baseline in patients with infliximab(50.0%) than in those without infliximab(28.6%),(P=0.003). A 78-year-old woman was referred to our department for treatment of an early gastric cancer. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) demonstrated a flat elevated lesion and a polypoid lesion on the greater curvature of the antrum. Histological analysis of, endoscopic biopsy samples taken from these lesions revealed an adenocarcinoma and a hyperplastic polyp, respectively. ESD was conducted for removal of the lesions. Carbon dioxide (CO2) in- stead of room air was used for insufflation, and the patient was adequately sedated without struggling or vomiting during the treatment. No significant bleeding from the lesion was observed during ESD, but fresh blood was identified endoscopically. Surprisingly, a Mallory- Weiss tear with active bleeding was detected on the lesser curvature of the gastric corpus. A total of eight hemoclips were applied for hemostasis. Both lesions were completely removed en bloc, and no bleeding or perforation developed after ESD. Histologically, the first lesion was apapillary carcinoma limited to the mucosal layer and without lymphovascular invasion or involvement of the surgical margins, while the second lesion was a benign hyperplastic polyp.

Surface manipulation of a triple-conducting cathode for protonic ceramic fuel cells to enhance oxygen reduction activity and CO_(2) tolerance

One of the main obstacles limiting the performance of protonic ceramic fuel cells(PCFCs) is the sluggish kinetics of the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) at reduced ***,the surface manipulation of a triple-conducting cathode BaCe_(0.5)Pr_(0.3)Y_(0.2)O_(3-δ)(BCPY) by an efficient catalyst coating PrNi_(0.5)Co_(0.5)O_(3-δ)(PNC) to enhance the ORR activity and CO_(2) tolerance is *** developed PNC-coated BCPY cathode achieves the polarization resistance of 0.25 and 1.00 Ω cm^(2) at 600 and 500 ℃,respectively,approximately 1/5 of that for the pristine BCPY cathode(0.99 and 4.79 Ω cm^(2)),while maintaining an excellent CO_(2) *** single cell on a BaZr_(0.8)Yb_(0.2)O_(3-δ) electrolyte also exhibits a high peak power density of 0.79 W cm^(-2)at 700 ℃ and a stable operation for 200 h at 600 ℃.Such high ORR activity is mainly attributed to the synergistic effect of BCPY support and PNC ***,BCPY provides a tripleconducting path(mainly protons),and PNC nanoparticles facilitates surface oxygen exchange and steam adsorption/desorption processes due to the enriched surface oxygen *** study will provide a new design strategy for developing high-performance PCFCs cathode.

This report describes serial observations of the growth process of a small invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) of the pancreas from imaging studies. Histopathological studies showed IDC with macroscopic retention cysts proximal to an intraductal papillary-mucinous adenoma with mild atypia of the branch duct type in the pancreatic body, with no relation between the two lesions. IDC was demonstrated as an extremely low-echoic mass resembling a cyst with an unclear margin on the initial endoscopic ultrasonography. We misinterpreted the low-echoic mass as a benign intraductal mucinous-papillary neoplasm (IPMN) based on findings of other imaging studies, and the patient was followed-up. The mass increased from 7 mm to 13 mm in diameter over 22 mo, and remained smaller than 10 mm in diameter for about 420 d. The tumor volume doubling time was 252 d. The Ki67 labeling index was 15.9%, similar to that described in previous reports. Hence, IDC may grow slowly while remaining small.
