The mechanisms underlying the secondary or delayed cell death in the hippocampus and cerebral hemisphere after traumatic brain injury (TBI) have been poorly understood. Recent data suggesting that TBI may have relationship with both an inflammatory and a neurodegenerative factors are also presented. Mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK), which play a crucial role in signal transduction, are activated by phosphorylation in response to a variety of mitogenic signals. In this article, we review the clinical and experimental evidence for brain damage after TBI. In addition, the MAPK pathways, closely involved in signal transduction after TBI, which could therefore be a new and potentially effective therapeutic target in TBI. Further investigations are therefore necessary to better understand cerebral traumatic damage and delineate the best practice strategies needed to improve the patient outcomes after TBI.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of universal primers on the tensile bond strength between zirconia and resin *** specimens were divided into five groups based on the surface treatment with the following primers:MP(Monobond Plus),SU(ScotchBond Universal),AZ(AZ Primer),BM(Beauty bond Multi),and BL(Bondmer Lightless).After priming,stainless steel rods were bonded to the zirconia specimens with composite *** tensile bond strength test was performed:stored at room temperature for 1 day;stored in distilled water at 37°C for 7 days;and underwent thermal *** BL group demonstrated a significantly higher tensile bond strength than other groups when stored at room temperature for 1 day(p<0.05).The primer that acted via chemical polymerization appeared to be most effective in improving the bond strength between the two materials in this study.

*** （R=Y, La） crystals were synthesized by a flux method using a mixture of NaOH and KOH as the flux. X-ray diffraction data were well refined using the Rietveld method assuming that the crystals had a monoclinic structre belonging to the P21/m space group. The unit cell volumes of the Gdo.9 *** crystals increased with increasing x, whereas those of *** decreased with increasing x. The Commission Internationale de IEclairage （CIE） chromaticity coordinates of Gdo.9 *** （R=Y, La） crystals were located in the red region and were nearly constant over the range ofx values considered. The fluorescence quantum yield Dr monotonically decreased with increasing x regardless of the ionic radii of the substitute ions. The fact that the Dr value of Lao.9EuoAOOH was greater than that of *** indicated that the observed decrease in the values of the Gdo.9-,LaxEuo.1OOH crystals up to x=0.3 could not be attributed to an increase in the distance between Eu3＋ ions or to a decrease in the Gd3＋ content. The decrease might be due to an increase of killer centers introduced by elemental substitutions with the larger ion.

Effect of equal-channel angular pressing on pitting corrosion resistance of anodized aluminum-copper alloy

The effect of equal-channel angular pressing(ECAP) on the pitting corrosion resistance of anodized Al-Cu alloy was investigated by electrochemical techniques in a solution containing 0.2 mol/L AlCl3 and also by surface *** was conducted for 20 min at 200 and 400 A/m2 in a solution containing 1.53 mol/L H2SO4 and 0.018 5 mol/L Al2(SO4)3·16H2O at 20 ℃.Anodized Al-Cu alloy was immediately dipped in boiling water for 20 min to seal the micro pores present in anodic oxide *** time required before initiating pitting corrosion of anodized Al-Cu alloy is longer with ECAP than without,indicating that ECAP process improves the pitting corrosion resistance of anodized Al-Cu *** phase precipitates such as Si,Al-Cu-Mg and Al-Cu-Si-Fe-Mn intermetallic compounds are present in Al-Cu alloy and the size of these precipitates is greatly decreased by application of ***-Cu-Mg intermetallic compounds are dissolved during anodization,whereas the precipitates composed of Si and Al-Cu-Si-Fe-Mn remain in anodic oxide films due to their more noble corrosion potential than ***-SEM and EPMA observation reveal that the pitting corrosion of anodized Al-Cu alloy occurs preferentially around Al-Cu-Si-Fe-Mn intermetallic compounds,since the anodic oxide films are absent at the boundary between the normal oxide films and these impurity *** improvement of pitting corrosion resistance of anodized Al-Cu alloy processed by ECAP appears to be attributed to a decrease in the size of precipitates,which act as origins of pitting corrosion.

AIM:To investigate the usefulness of direct hemoperfusion with a polymyxin B-immobilized fiber column (DHP-PMX therapy)for warm hepatic ischemia-reperfusion(I/R)injury after total hepatic vascular exclusion (THVE)using a porcine model. METHODS:Eleven Mexican hairless pigs weighing 22-38 kg were subjected to THVE for 120 min and then observed for 360 *** animals were divided into two groups randomly:the DHP-PMX group(n=5)underwent DHP-PMX at a flow rate of 80 mL/min for 120 min(beginning 10 min before reperfusion),while the control group did not(n=6).The rate pressure product (RPP):heart rate×end-systolic arterial blood pressure, hepatic tissue blood flow(HTBF),portal vein blood flow (PVBF),and serum aspartate aminotransferase(AST) levels were compared between the two groups. RESULTS:RPP and HTBF were significantly(P< 0.05)higher in the DHP-PMX group than in the control group 240 and 360 min after *** in the DHP-PMX group was maintained at about 70%of the flow before ischemia and differed significantly(P <0.05)compared to the control group 360 min after *** serum AST increased gradually afterreperfusion in both groups,but the AST was significantly(P<0.05)lower in the DHP-PMX group 360 min after reperfusion. CONCLUSION:DHP-PMX therapy reduced the hepatic warm I/R injury caused by THVE in a porcine model.
