The complex role of physical exercise and reactive oxygen species on brain

Reactive oxygen species （ROS） are continuously generated during aerobic metabolism and at moderate level. They play a role in redox signaling, but in significant concentration they cause oxidative damage and neurodegeneration. Because of the enhanced sensitivity of brain to ROS, it is especially important to maintain the normal redox state in different types of neuron cells. In last decade it became clear that regular exercise beneficially affects brain function, and can play an important preventive and therapeutic role in stroke, Alzheimer, and Parkinson diseases. The effects of exercise appear to be very complex and could include neurogenesis via neurotrophic factors, increased capillariszation, decreased oxidative damage, and increased proteolyfic degradation by proteasome and neprilysin. Data from our and other laboratories indicate that exercise-induced modulation of ROS levels plays a role in the protein content and expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor, tyrosinerelated kinase B （TrkB）, and cAMP response element binding protein, resulting in better function and increased neurogenesis. Therefore, it appears that exercise-induced modulation of the redox state is an important means, by which exercise benefits brain function, increases the resistance against oxidative stress, facilitates recovery from oxidative stress, and attenuates age-associated decline in cognition.

＜正＞This paper presents an object-oriented unequal loss protection scheme for robust wireless scalable 3D-SPIHT encoded video transmission using product codes. In our proposed OOULP system, the embedded video bitstream of all concerned video objects are packetized independently for transmission over wireless network. The scheme employs regular LDPC codes and Reed-Solomon codes to deal effectively with burst errors over wireless network. For optimal unequal loss protection, a coarse-to-fine strategy has been used to assign unequal rate allocation to each object within the video:（a） coarse allocation: the inter-object rate allocation assign the rate budget among different objects according to their priority level;（b） fine allocation: intra-object rate allocation provides byte-wise protection to the embedded bitstream of each object to minimize its individual mean distortion. Our proposed framework allows the users to independently access and manipulate the objects with their interests. The simulation experiment shows that the proposed framework is robust in hostile network conditions and therefore can provide reasonable visual qualities for different video objects according to their importance.

＜正＞Through the research subjects requested to the Shizuoka Tea Experiment Station from 1978 to 2003, trend of tea industry at Shizuoka prefecture is shown. Many requests are the improvement of cultivation and manufacturing mechanization, reducing fertilizer and agricultural chemicals and development of new products. At 1970s, methods for producing high grade tea were requested, from 1990 prevention of damage of meteorological disaster and insect pests and diseases were earnest desire. There was a conservation movement, then fertilizer and agricultural chemicals ordered to be cut down. At the present time, more aged and lack of successors need labor saving work’s automation and consumers want more safe quality management. Also high technology is a matter of concern at tea industry.

The effective energy loss functions for Al have been derived from differential i nverse inelastic mean free path based on the extended Landau approach. It has be en revealed that the effective energy loss function is very close in value to th e theoretical surface energy loss function in the lower energy loss region but g radually approaches the theoretical bulk energy loss function in the higher ener gy loss region. Moreover, the intensity corresponding to surface excitation in e ffective energy loss functions decreases with the increase of primary electron e nergy. These facts show that the present effective energy loss function describe s not only surface excitation but also bulk excitation. At last, REELS spectra s imulated by Monte Carlo method based on use of the effective energy loss functio ns has reproduced the experimental REELS spectra with considerable success.

The marine area of Japan, including territorial waters and the exclusive economic zone, is the sixth largest in the world at about 4,470,000 km2. Therefore, it is becoming necessary to establish appropriate means of transportation other than ships in order to utilize the area efficiently. In this respect, ultra-light seaplanes are attracting attention from the viewpoint of protecting the natural environment. Accordingly, JRPS （Japan Reinforced Plastics Society） is currently developing FRP （fiber-reinforced plastic） floats for such planes. In this study, we conducted simulations of seaplane behavior during alighting by using the smoothed particle hydrodynamics method, which is one of the functions in the PAM-CRASH solver, and we present the observed trend in the vertical acceleration of the floats as a first step toward deriving the impact force from analytical data.

In this paper, the author propose high- performance complex multipliers suited for Field-Programmable-Gate-Array (FPGA). The proposed complex multipliers are designed by effectively utilizing LUT (Look-Up-Table) and carry-chain which are basic components in FPGA. To design the circuits, the author utilize Radix-4 Booth algorithm for partial product generation and Wallace tree utilizing effectively LUTs and carry-chains for the partial product compression. The author estimated path delay and scale of the proposed complex multipliers by utilizing synthesis tool, and showed shorter path delay and smaller scale than circuits synthesized by VHDL operator ( , + , and - ).

AIM: To compare the antisecretory activity and plasma drug concentrations of a single oral dose of 10 mg lafutidine, a novel H2 receptor antagonist, with those of the proton pump inhibitor lansoprazole (LPZ) 30 mg. METHODS: Ten volunteers without H pylori infection participated in this crossover study comparing lafutidine 10 mg with LPZ 30 mg. Intragastric pH was monitored for 6 h in all participants, and blood samples were collected from four randomly selected individuals after single-dose administration of each drug. RESULTS: The median intragastric pH was significantly higher in individuals who received lafutidine 10 mg than in those who received LPZ 30 mg 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 h after administration. Maximal plasma drug concentration was reached more promptly with lafutidine 10 mg than with LPZ 30 mg. CONCLUSION: In H pylori-negative individuals, gastric acid secretion is more markedly inhibited by lafutidinethan by LPZ.
