Gomphrena serrata L. (Amaranthaceae) is a medicinal plant widely used traditionally in rural areas to treat many diseases, including gastrointestinal helminthiasis of small ruminants. This work aims to estimate the plant extracts phytochemical potential and study the activities of the aqueous decoction (GS_AD), aqueous macerate (GS_AM), and hydroalcoholic macerate (GS_HEM) of Gomphrena serrata extracts on two developmental stages (eggs and adult worms) of Haemonchus contortus. Phytochemical screening was carried out. The acute toxicity test was performed according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) test guideline 423. The Haemonchus contortus eggs hatching inhibition test was performed left to incubate for 48 hours in the presence of the different plant extracts at increasing concentrations of 0.125;0.25;0.5;0.625;1;2;3 mg/mL. For the motility inhibition test on adult worms, the worms were contacted with the extracts at concentrations of 0.75;1;1.25;1.5;2;3;4 mg/mL and left to incubate for 24 hours. Albendazole and levamisole were used as standard. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of tannins, saponins, reducing compounds, coumarins and derivatives, anthocyanins, steroids, triterpenes, and flavonoids. An acute toxicity study showed that the oral LD50 value of G. serrata was estimated to be 5000 mg/kg. All extracts showed an effect on both stages of parasite development. The hatching inhibition rate was 100% from 3 mg/mL for all three extracts. The rate of inhibition of motility was 100% from 4 mg/mL for each extract. HEM is more efficient on eggs and Haemonchus contortus adult worms than other extracts with IC50 of 0.457 mg/mL and LC50 of 1.329 mg/mL, respectively. These results suggest that Gomphrena serrata, a plant used by farmers, has anthelmintic properties.

Introduction: Mechanical complications after osteosynthesis are spontaneous and harmful modifications of the joint compromising the consolidation process. The aim of this study is to report on the frequency of these complications and their management in the Orthopaedic-Traumatology Department of CHU Ignace Deen. Patients and Methods: we conducted a retrospective descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study from January 2017 to December 2022. It focused on the records of patients hospitalized and treated in the department for a mechanical complication after osteosynthesis. Results: The frequency of mechanical complications was 1.2%, with an average age of 44.2 years and a sex ratio of 3.2 in favor of men. Non-compliance with postoperative instructions, non-compliance with surgical technique, postoperative infection and early loading were the main contributing factors. Disassembly of the screw-plate was the most common cause in 6 cases (35.5%), with a mean delay of 4.1 months. Revision osteosynthesis was carried out using screw plates in 8 cases (47.1%). Conclusion: Mechanical complications of osteosynthesis are less frequent traumatic conditions in our department. Several factors contribute to their occurrence.

Background: Cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension (HTN) are one of the main causes of death in Cameroon. This study aimed at assessing prevalence disparities and determinants of hypertension amongst Bamiléké adults residing in two different agroecological zones of Cameroon. Methods: A cross-sectional and descriptive survey was conducted among Bamiléké population living in the Highlands zone (Western region) and in the Monomodal Rainforest zone (Littoral region) of Cameroon from August 2016 to August 2017. Participants (962) were aged at least 20 years old. Data on sociodemographic, hemodynamic, anthropometric, and biochemical parameters and lifestyle of the participants were collected. Results: Results obtained revealed that 34.2% were hypertensive and those residing in the highland zone were more affected than those living in the monomodal rainforest zone (44.5% vs 22.9%). The different subtypes of HTN (Isolated systolic hypertension (14.1%), isolated diastolic hypertension (7.2%) and Systo-diastolic hypertension (23.3%)) were also more prevalent in the Highlands Zone. The most prevalent stage of HTN was pre-HTN (31.5%). However, people living in the monomodal rainforest zone were more affected by pre-HTN compared to Bamiléké living in the highland zone (33.6% vs. 29.6%). Results also showed that high consumption (≥ 3 times/week) of carbohydrate- and fat-rich foods, ageing, obesity, and marital status were associated with high blood pressure in both agroecological zones. Besides, secondary education (OR = 0.68;95% CI: 0.42 - 0.99) in the Highlands Zone and high (≥3 times/week) vegetable consumption (OR = 0.66;95% CI: 0.44 - 0.98) in the Monomodal Rainforest Zone had a protective effect on elevated blood pressure of population. Conclusion: There is a disparity in the prevalence of hypertension and some of its determinants among Bamiléké adults residing in different agroecological zones. BACkGROUND QTc interval prolongation with an increased risk of torsade de pointes(Tsd)has been described in coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)patients treated with hydroxychloroquine(HCQ)and azithromycin(AZI)in Western *** the DR Congo,few studies have evaluated the safety of this association or proposed new *** To determine the incidence of QTc prolongation and Tsd in COVID-19 patients treated with HCQ-AZIs vs doubase C(new molecule).METHODS In present randomized clinical trial,we have included patients with mild or moderate COVID-19 treated with either HCQ-AZI or doubase ***(ECG)changes on day 14 of randomization were determined based on pretreatment *** QTc was defined as≥500 ms on day 14 or an increase of≥80 ms compared to pretreatment *** with cardiac disease,those undergoing other treatments likely to prolong QTc,and those with disturbed ECG tracings were excluded from the *** The study included 258 patients(mean age 41±15 years;52%men;3.4%diabetics,11.1%hypertensive).Mild and moderate COVID-19 were found in 93.5%and 6.5%of patients,*** baseline,all patients had normal sinus rhythm,a mean heart rate 78±13/min,mean PR space 170±28 ms,mean QRS 76±13 ms,and mean QTc 405±30 *** complaints suggesting cardiac involvement were reported during or after *** four patients(1.5%)experienced QTc interval prolongation beyond 500 ***,only five patients(1.9%)had an increase in the QTc interval of more than 80 *** prolongation was more significant in younger patients,those with high viral load at baseline,and those receiving HCQ-AZI(Pkely to cause arrhythmia may explain our results.

Diabetes and hypertension are the most prevalent cardiovascular risk factors. Recent studies showed an increase in the prevalence of food insecurity in our country. The aim of this study was to assess how food insecurity affects the dietary habits, socio-demographic characteristics and metabolic profile of individuals with diabetes or hypertension. This case-control study was conducted among diabetic and hypertensive participants (cases) and diabetic and hypertensive normal (controls) during the screening campaigns for nutrition-related chronic diseases. The sociodemographic, clinical and biochemical parameters of the participants were analyzed. Logistic regression analyses were performed to identify factors associated with diabetes and hypertension in the study population. Bivariate analyses showed that male gender (OR = 1.972;95% CI: 1.250 - 3.089), regular alcohol consumption (OR = 2.012;95% CI: 1.294 - 3.130), low fruit consumption (OR = 1.590;95% CI: 1.016 - 2.488), low dietary diversity (OR = 2.915;95% CI: 1.658 - 5.127) and abdominal obesity (OR = 1.893, CI 95% 1.203 - 2.978) were significantly associated with hypertension. In addition, low fruit consumption (OR = 1.829;95% CI 1.092 - 3.064), low legume consumption (OR = 3.515;95% CI 1.861 - 6.635), and hypertriglyceridaemia (OR = 2.241, 95% CI 1.139 - 4.408) were significantly associated with diabetes. The indirect association observed between food insecurity and diabetes and hypertension suggests the need for nutritional policies aimed at popularizing the production and consumption of fruits and legumes. Similarly, health services need to be aware and informed of the important role that food insecurity can play in the development of diabetes and hypertension.

Supervised Learning Algorithm on Unstructured Documents for the Classification of Job Offers: Case of Cameroun

Nowadays, in data science, supervised learning algorithms are frequently used to perform text classification. However, African textual data, in general, have been studied very little using these methods. This article notes the particularity of the data and measures the level of precision of predictions of naive Bayes algorithms, decision tree, and SVM (Support Vector Machine) on a corpus of computer jobs taken on the internet. This is due to the data imbalance problem in machine learning. However, this problem essentially focuses on the distribution of the number of documents in each class or subclass. Here, we delve deeper into the problem to the word count distribution in a set of documents. The results are compared with those obtained on a set of French IT offers. It appears that the precision of the classification varies between 88% and 90% for French offers against 67%, at most, for Cameroonian offers. The contribution of this study is twofold. Indeed, it clearly shows that, in a similar job category, job offers on the internet in Cameroon are more unstructured compared to those available in France, for example. Moreover, it makes it possible to emit a strong hypothesis according to which sets of texts having a symmetrical distribution of the number of words obtain better results with supervised learning algorithms.
