Revisiting the Climatology of Atmospheric Blocking in the Northern Hemisphere

In addition to the occurrence of atmospheric blocking, the climatology of the characteristics of blocking events, including duration, intensity, and extension, in four seasons over the Northern Hemisphere was analyzed for the period 1950-2009. The seasonality and spatial variations of these characteristics were studied according to their longitudinal distributions. In general, there were sharp discrepancies in the blocking characteristics between winter and summer, and these differences were more prominent over the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The blocking not only occurred more frequently but also underwent stronger amplification in winter; likewise, the blocking occurred less frequently and underwent weaker amplification in summer. There are very strong interrelationships among different blocking characteristics, suggesting that they are supported by similar physical factors. In addition, the relationship between blocking over different regions and East Asian circulation was examined. Ural-Siberia is a major blocking formation region in all seasons that may exert a downstream impact on East Asia. The impact is generally weak in summer, which is due to its lower intensity and smaller duration. However, the extratropical circulation over East Asia in summer can be disturbed persistently by the frequent occurrence of blocking over the Asian continent or the Western Pacific. In particular, the blocking frequency over the Western Pacific significantly increased during the study period. This climatological information provides a background for studying the impact of blocking on East Asian circulation under both present and future climate conditions.

Recent studies by the Hong Kong Observatory show that the urban centre of Hong Kong has considerable Urban Heat Island （UHI） effect that arises from the different thermal properties between urban and the surrounding rural areas. The studies have also shown that the urban-rural temperature difference or UHI intensity in the urban centre of Hong Kong can be greater than 10℃. However, the characteristics of UHI in Hong Kong would not be unique were it not for its complex topography and the significant spatial variation in the degree of urbanization within the territory. Making use of the extensive spatial coverage of the automatic weather stations operated by the Observatory, this study attempts to document the spatial variation of the characteristics of UHI effect in Hong Kong in summer and winter through cases studies. Cases in summer and winter with meteorological conditions typical for high UHI effect （that is, clear sky, light wind and stable atmospheric condition） are selected for the study. The characteristics of UHI effect in terms of the daytime warming rates, nocturnal cooling rates and diurnal temperature ranges at the selected automatic weather stations are analysed. The territory of Hong Kong is then classified into different categories according to the identified characteristics with a view to portraying the spatial morphology of UHI effect in Hong Kong.

A typhoon passed through Hong Kong region suddenly and unexpectedly on 18 September 1906(the“Typhoon 1906”)and had a disastrous impact on Victoria Harbour and its surroundings in just a couple of *** the year 1906 was the“Bingwu”year in the Chinese calendar,the typhoon is also known historically as the“Bingwu Typhoon”.Tremendous loss of lives and property resulted,and the shipping and fishing communities were *** mysteries arising from this calamitous typhoon have existed to date:1)Why the Hong Kong region Observatory was not able to provide any forewarning?2)whether the storm surge reported in some contemporary records is entirely credible?This paper will focus on both of *** this paper,we re-analyse historical weather observations recorded in various historical documents and estimate the possible storm size,intensity and track of Typhoon 1906 using tropical cyclone *** on the re-analyses,the storm surges,storm tides and wave heights in Hong Kong region are also estimated using storm surge and wave *** results reveal that Typhoon 1906 was a midget typhoon,with a radius of maximum winds of 11 km or smaller,during its passage through Hong Kong *** explains why it was technically impossible for a forewarning to be given at that time when real-time weather observations from ships,meteorological satellites and radars were *** also estimate that the maximum storm surges(storm tides)in Hong Kong region were not higher than 0.82 m(2.43 mCD)and 1.98 m(4.15 mCD)in Victoria Harbour and Tolo Harbour *** figures are found to be limited by the intensity and the storm size of the ***,we conclude that the previously documented storm surge figures are not supported by the present study.

利用UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS对同一批枳壳药材生品饮片及其炮制品进行分析,比较炮制前后成分变化,探讨粤港枳壳饮片发酵炮制机制的物质基础。通过比对生品与炮制品的正负离子模式离子流出峰,并以化合物炮制前后离子峰面积比为炮制前后变化指数进行比对。结果发现枳壳经发酵炮制后,产生圣草酚-7-O-葡糖苷、橙皮素-7-O-葡萄糖苷、5-去甲基川陈皮素等3个新生成分,并可显著增加柚皮素和橙皮素成分,以及明显增加柠檬苦素,sudachinoid A,黄柏酮酸,诺米林酸等柠檬苦素类衍生物成分。提示粤港枳壳饮片所采用的发酵为主的方法对提升炮制品的生物活性和生物利用率,增强临床疗效具有重要意义,值得加强保护和进一步推广。

Vascular factors to cognitive impairment in degenerative on nondegenerative diseases have been reported, examined, and debated for several decades. The various definitions of cognitive impairment due to vascular origins will make these results diverse. During this review, we are going to report currently update information of vascular contributions to cognitive function, in clinical or neuroimaging findings. Risks factors and their managements also will be discussed and reported to have a comprehensive review.

以杨中芳所构建的华人人际关系概念化理论模型为蓝本 ,并采用以往的实证研究方法为基础 ,揭示了当代华人对人际关系如何进行概念化及其潜在的认知维度。杨氏模型认为华人人际关系主要由既定成分、情感成分和工具成分组成。该研究以中国香港地区的大学生为被试进行调查 ,首先采用访谈的形式 ,分家族、学校及日常生活情境建立人际关系清单。然后采用多维量法 (Multi dimensionalscaling)处理被试对关系进行分类的数据。结果发现 ,在不同的生活情境中 ,被试均依据情感程度对关系进行分类。在等级差异明显的家族和学校情境中 ,被试依据辈份和等级差异的突显性进行分类 ;而在等级差异小的生活情境中 ,则采用功利程度为标准。本文对被试在不同情境中所采用的不同维度进行了讨论。
