Synthesis of a stroboscopic image from a hand-held camera sequence for a sports analysis

This paper presents a method for synthesizing a stroboscopic image of a moving sports player from a hand-held camera sequence. This method has three steps: synthesis of background image,synthesis of stroboscopic image, and removal of player's shadow. In synthesis of background image step, all input frames masked a bounding box of the player are stitched together to generate a background image. The player is extracted by an HOG-based people *** synthesis of stroboscopic image step, the background image, the input frame, and a mask of the player synthesize a stroboscopic image. In removal of shadow step, we remove the player's shadow which negatively affects an analysis by using mean-shift. In our previous work, synthesis of background image has been timeconsuming. In this paper, by using the bounding box of the player detected by HOG and by subtracting the images for synthesizing a mask, computational speed and accuracy can be improved. These have contributed greatly to the improvement from the previous *** are main improvements and novelty points from our previous method. In experiments, we confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method, measured the player's speed and stride length, and made a footprint image. The image sequence was captured under a simple condition that no other people were in the background and the person controlling the video camera was standing still, such like a motion parallax was not occurred. In addition, we applied the synthesis method to various scenes to confirm its versatility.

To mitigate the damage caused by debris flows resulting from heavy precipitation and to aid in evacuation plan preparation, areas at risk should be mapped on a scale appropriate for affected individuals and communities. We tested the effectiveness of simply identifying debris-flow hazards through automated derivation of surface curvatures using LiDAR digital elevation models. We achieved useful correspondence between plan curvatures and areas of existing debris-flow damage in two localities in Japan using the analysis of digital elevation models(DEMs). We found that plan curvatures derived from 10 m DEMs may be useful to indicate areas that are susceptible to debris flow in mountainous areas. In residential areas located on gentle sloping debris flow fans, the greatest damage to houses was found to be located in the elongated depressions that are connected to mountain stream valleys. Plan curvaturederived from 5 m DEM was the most sensitive indicators for susceptibility to debris flows.

The authors examined the thermal change in the aroma profile of myrrh. The fresh odor of raw myrrh and its hexane extract depended on the amount of （E）-13-ocimene. Myrrh was extracted with hexane to avoid inducing changes in the constituents and odor. The main constituent, （E）-L3-ocimene （group A; low boiling point）, and the other constituents （group B; high boiling point） of the hexane extract were separated by bulb-to-bulb distillation. The constituents of groups A and B were analyzed over time by nuclear magnetic resonance analysis and the odors were evaluated. Myrrh＇s odor depended on both the amount of thermally unstable （E）-[3-ocimene, which contributed to the fresh odor, and the constituents of group B （thermally stable）, which contributed to the myrrh-like odor. Six compounds （c^-santalene, （Z）-a-bisabolene, c^-bergamotene, （E）-ct-santalal, c^-photosantalol and campherenol） were isolated from group B. No individual group B component had a myrrh-like odor, although the combined odor of group B was myrrh like. The authors demonstrated that the aroma profile of myrrh depends on the thermal instability of （E）-^-ocimene and a combination of six thermally stable terpenes with similar molecular structures.

The effect of nutrition education using self-monitoring of blood glucose on glycemic control was investigated in the present study. Of 36 males and 25 females aged 30 - 69 years under outpatient treatment at 3 hospitals in Niigata prefecture, Japan, 61 non-insulin-treated obese type 2 diabetes patients with HbA1c of 6.9% - 9.3% and body mass index of 25 kg/m2 or higher were randomly allocated. Thirty and 31 patients were analyzed in intervention and control groups, respectively. The intervention group performed self-monitoring of blood glucose 2 hours after supper twice a week for 6 months and underwent nutrition education on the association between meals and postprandial blood glucose once every 2 months. The primary outcome was glycated hemoglobin, with the secondary outcome of body mass index. Stages of change for eating the appropriate supper amount were investigated to verify the process of the educational effect, and satisfaction with diabetes treatment and well-being were investigated to verify the continuity of treatment. On intention-to-treat analysis, glycated hemoglobin (mean ± SD) decreased from 7.9% ± 0.6% to 7.7% ± 0.6% in the intervention group but increased from 7.9% ± 0.6% to 8.1% ± 0.6% in the control group, showing a significant difference in the change after intervention between the groups (p = 0.027). In the intervention group, body mass index decreased from 28.9 ± 3.8 to 28.4 ± 3.7 kg/m2 (p = 0.019), the stages of change to learn the appropriate amount of supper progressed (p = 0.026), and satisfaction with diabetes treatment increased (p = 0.031).

Methods In a 38-year-old male diagnosed with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa of the Hallopeau-Siemens type suffering from chronic renal failure,we initiated maintenance hemodialysis with a permanent vascular catheter.A cuffed dual lumen catheter was inserted into the subcutaneous tunnel under the right subclavian chest wall,and placed in the superior vena cava. Results He was subsequently dialyzed three times a *** years and nine months after insertion,the catheter was replaced with a new *** more than four years,to date,this patient has been on maintenance hemodialysis. Conclusion The cuffed tunneled central catheter is a viable option for permanent vascular access in patients with severe recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa requiring hemodialysis.

Advanced liver cirrhosis is usually accompanied by portal hypertension. Long-term portal hypertension results in various vascular alterations. The systemic hemodynamic state in patients with cirrhosis is termed a hyperdynamic state. This peculiar hemodynamic state is characterized by an expanded blood volume, high cardiac output, and low total peripheral resistance. Vascular alterations do not disappear even long after liver transplantation(LT), and recipients with cirrhosis exhibit a persistent systemic hyperdynamic state even after LT. Stability of optimal systemic hemodynamics is indispensable for adequate portal venous flow(PVF) and successful LT, and reliable parameters for optimal systemic hemodynamics and adequate PVF are required. Even a subtle disorder in systemic hemodynamics is precisely indicated by the balance between cardiac output and blood volume. The indocyanine green(ICG) kinetics reflect the patient's functional hepatocytes and effective PVF, and PVF is a major determinant of the ICG elimination constant(kICG) in the well-preserved allograft. The kICG value is useful to set the optimal PVF during living-donor LT and to evaluate adequate PVF after LT. Perioperative management has a large influence on the postoperative course and outcome; therefore, key points and unexpected pitfalls for intensive management are herein summarized. Transplant physicians should fully understand the peculiar systemic hemodynamic behavior in LT recipients with cirrhosis and recognize the critical importance of PVF after LT.
