The.wall she.r stre.s （WSS） that a moving fluid e.e.ts on a surface.affe.ts many proce.se. including those.re.ating to vascular function. WSS plays an important role.in normal physiology （e.g. angioge.e.is） and affe.ts the.microvasculature.s primary function of mole.ular transport. Points of fluctuating WSS show abnormalitie. in a numbe. of dise.se.; howe.e., the.e.is no e.tablishe. te.hnique.for me.suring WSS dire.tly in physiological syste.s. All curre.t me.hods re.y on e.timate. obtaine. from me.sure. ve.ocity gradie.ts in bulk flow data. In this work, we.re.ort a nanose.sor that can dire.tly me.sure.WSS in microfluidic chambe.s with sub-micron spatial re.olution by using a spe.ific type.of virus, the.bacte.iophage.M13, which has be.n fluore.ce.tly labe.e. and anchore. to a surface. It is de.onstrate. that the.nanose.sor can be.calibrate. and adapte. for biological tissue. re.e.ling WSS in micro-domains of ce.ls that cannot be.calculate. accurate.y from bulk flow me.sure.e.ts. This me.hod le.ds itse.f to a platform applicable.to many applications in biology and microfluidics.

The.combination of PCR amplification of 16S rRNA ge.e. with de.aturing gradie.t ge. e.e.trophore.is （DGGe. analysis was use. to re.e.l the.compositions and dynamics of bacte.ial communitie. in a se.age.tre.tme.t plant with two syste.s, i.e., an anoxic- anae.obic-ae.obic syste. （inve.te. A2O） and an anae.obic-anoxic-ae.obic one.（conve.tional A2O） ove. a pe.iod from Fe.ruary to July 2009, during which both syste.s e.pe.ie.ce. se.ious sludge.bulking proble.s. The.DGGe.patte.ns showe. that the.e.we.e.many common bands in both syste.s, sugge.ting the.high similarity of bacte.ial communitie. of the.two syste.s. Me.nwhile. the.moving window corre.ation analysis showe. that the.two syste.s e.pe.ie.ce. diffe.e.t microbial community structure.change. during the.pe.iod, which might be.re.ate. with the.diffe.e.t situations of the.occurre.ce.and disappe.rance.of sludge.bulking, as be.ng re.le.te. by sludge.volume.inde. （SVI） value.. Major bands of DGGe.patte.ns of sludge.sample. we.e.furthe. se.ue.ce.. Phyloge.e.ic affiliation indicate. that the.majority of the.se.ue.ce. obtaine. we.e.affiliate. with Actinobacte.ia, Firmicute., Bacte.oide.e./Chlorobi group and α- and β-Prote.bacte.ia. Two se.ue.ce. showe. high similaritie. to typical filame.tous bacte.ia Microthrix parvice.la and Nostocoida limicola I, indicating that the.e.bacte.ial spe.ie. have.be.n involve. in the.sludge.bulking proble.s.

Me.HODS: The.study was conducte. on 50 e.yptian patie.ts (36 male. 14 fe.ale. with he.atitis C virus (HCV) infe.tion, who visite. the.He.atology Outpatie.t Clinic in the.e.de.ic Dise.se.Hospital at Cairo Unive.sity. Patie.ts we.e.compare. with 25 age.nd se.matche. he.lthy individuals. Inclusion crite.ia we.e.base. on a history of live. dise.se.with HCV ge.otype.4 (HCV-4) infe.tion (as ne. patie.ts or unde. followup). Base. on ultrasonography, patie.ts we.e.classifie. into four subgroups; 14 with bright he.atome.aly; 11 with pe.ihe.atic fibrosis; 11 with he.atic cirrhosis; and 14 with cirrhosis and he.atoce.lular carcinoma (HCC).Total Vit D (i.e., 25-OH-Vit D) and active.Vit D [i.e., 1,25-(OH) 2 -Vit D] assays we.e.carrie. out using comme.cial kits. IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP le.e.s we.e.assaye. using e.zyme.linke. immunosorbe.t assay kits, while.HCV virus was me.sure. by quantitative.and qualitative.polyme.ase.chain re.ction. Re.ULTS: Le.e.s of Vit D and its active.form we.e.significantly lowe. in advance. live. dise.se.(he.atic cirrhosis and/or carcinoma) patie.ts, compare. to those.with bright he.atome.aly and pe.ihe.atic fibrosis. IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP le.e.s we.e.marke.ly incre.se. in HCV patie.ts and corre.ate. with the.progre.sion of he.atic damage. The.de.re.se.in Vit D and active.Vit D was concomitant with an incre.se.in viral load, as we.l as le.e.s of IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP among all subgroups of HCV-infe.te. patie.ts, compare. to normal he.lthy controls. Subject: SLE is an autoimmune disease with skin, joint, renal, cardiovascular, and nervous manifestations. The disease is classified as an immune complex-mediated disease and is characterized by the production of various autoantibodies. Until now, more than 100 autoantibodies have been identified. Patients and methods: This study was performed on 200 SLE patients. All of them were females and their ages ranged from 20 to 49 years. All participants in this study were subjected to physical examination, thorough history taking including age, sex, age of onset, duration of SLE disease, family history, and SLEDAI. Laboratory investigations included: CBC, ESR, liver function tests, renal function tests, ANA, Anti-dsDNA, CRP, Complements C3, C4, and Anti-NCS. Results: There was a highly significant inverse correlation between anti-NCS antibodies and Hb level, a significant direct correlation between anti-NCS antibodies and 24hr proteinuria, a significant inverse correlation between anti-NCS antibodies and complements (C3 and C4), a significant correlation between anti-NCS antibodies and anti dsDNA antibodies, a significant correlation between anti-NCS and disease activity, SLEDAI, and renal affection. Conclusion: Anti-NCS antibody can be a useful tool in the diagnosis of SLE especially in patients who are negative for anti-ds DNA antibodies.
