Introduction-Purpose: Pulsed pressure is recognized as an important predictor of cardiovascular risk. The purpose of this study was to identify a possible association between high ambulatory pulsed pressure and left ventricular geometry change in African black people. Material and methods: We conducted a bicentric, retrospective descriptive and analytical study that took place from 2010 to 2015 at the Abidjan Heart Institute and the Polyclinic Sainte Anne Marie in Abidjan. The people were selected from MAPA’s archive files. Those aged 18 years and over were included, all of whom had valid echocardiography and MAPA. The analyzed parameters concerned epidemiological data with age, gender and body surface area. The clinical data analyzed included systolic, diastolic, mean and 24-hours pulsed pressures. On the echocardiographic parameters, it was the evaluation of the ventricular mass indexed to the body surface. Results: A total of 177 patients records were selected. The mean age of the patients was 56.32 ± 10.51 years. There was a male predominance with a sex ratio of 1.15. The main cardiovascular risk factors found outside high blood pressure were dyslipidemia (06.87%) and obesity (13.7%). In clinical terms, hypertension was found in 75% of cases (n = 133) versus 25% (n = 44) of normotensive patients. These blood pressure profiles allowed us to classify our study population into two groups: hypertensives people and normotensives people. The hypertensives people had significantly higher mean pulsed pressure levels than the normotensives people. All normotensive patients had normal pulsed pressure. In the hypertensive population, the prevalence of high pulsed pressure was 31% (n = 41) versus 69% (n = 92) normal pulsed pressure. As part of the promotion of common bean cultivation, fertilization methods will have to be proposed to growers. The aim of this study is therefore to develop a technical itinerary for dry bean fertilization. To this end, different types of chemical and organic fertilizers were evaluated on three dry bean varieties (HARI25/GHA19, HARI35/GHA19 and HARI36/GUI21). Seven (7) doses of chemical and organic fertilizers were used, including two controls (D0 with no fertilizer and D1, the reference dose using NPK base and cover fertilizers in the form of urea). The fertilization trial was set up as a Split-Plot design, with variety as the primary factor and dose as the secondary factor. The experiment was repeated three (3) times. The results showed that vegetative development parameters and fruit set rate varied according to the variety studied. For yield and its components, the treatments had a significant effect. Indeed, the response of varieties to fertilizers was specific. For each variety used, the optimum yield was obtained with a different treatment, thus highlighting the genotype effect of the dry bean varieties studied. Among the treatments tested, D4 (5 t organic fertilizer/ha) performed best in all three varieties, generating yield increases of 20%, 46% and 91% respectively.

Contraception among Women Aged 35 and over at the University Hospital Center of Brazzaville

Objective: To study contraception among women aged 35 and over at the University Hospital of Brazzaville. Population and Methods: This was a retrospective descriptive study, conducted from April 1st 2017 to January 31st 2022 in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the University Hospital of Brazzaville, including women aged 35 years and over who had received a contraceptive method. The study variables were sociodemographic, reproductive, clinical and contraceptive method related. Results: Two hundred and thirty customers were collected during the study period, i.e., 10.8% of the patients who received contraception. They were 38.4 ± 3 years old on average, had secondary education (46.1%), were of low socioeconomic status (54.3%), lived with a partner (98.7%) and came from an urban area (97.4%). They were multigravida (85.2%), and multiparous (63.9%) with an average of 4 living children. The indications were of two types: convenience (26.2%) and medical (73.8%). The most commonly used contraceptives were implants (72.2%) and injectable progestin (20.5%). Conclusion: The indication for contraception for women over 35 years of age at the University Hospital Center of Brazzaville is more medical, with the use of long-acting contraceptives.

Voandzou is a seed legume cultivated in Burkina Faso with significant nutritional potential. The objective of this study was to assess the genetic diversity of Bambara nut cultivated in Burkina Faso using microsatellite markers. For the study, fifteen SSRs markers were used for molecular characterization of 90 Bambara nut landraces from three agro-climatic zones of Burkina Faso. All markers were 100% polymorphic with an average value of 4.81 for effective alleles. The polymorphism information content (PIC) ranged from 0.654 to 0.867 with a mean of 0.775. Dendrogram classified the accessions in four mixed groups independently of the three agro-climatic zones. This distribution is consistent with the results on the agro-morphological characterization of the same landraces. This information was served as a basic model for breeding and conservation programs of V. subterranea in Burkina Faso.

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of carrot leaf powder in the diet on reproductive and growth characteristics in rabbits. Thirty sexually matured rabbits does of 8 months old, 3.00 to 3.20 kg, were divided into three groups of 10 rabbits each, which were comparable in terms of body weight. Throughout the experiment, the rabbits of group 1 (control group) were fed ad libitum with a feed not containing carrot leaf powder (control ration), while those of groups 2 and 3 received the control ration supplemented with carrot leaf powder in concentrations of 0.5% and 1% respectively. Data was collected on feed intake, weight gain, receptivity, fertility, gestation length of does, litter size, weight, viability and sex ratio of the young rabbits till 5 weeks post-partum. There was no significant (P > 0.05) difference in the fertility rate, gestation duration and sex ratio of the kits with reference to the control. Litter size at birth was not significantly (P > 0.05) influenced in does fed diets containing carrot leaf powder compared to the control. However, the reversed effects were observed at five weeks post-partum. The live weight of weaned kits and weight gain of rabbit does at birth were significantly (P < 0.05) increased in treated rabbits compared to the control. The supplementation of carrot leaf powder in feed can improve production performance in female rabbits, through their antioxidant activities thanks to their various components, thus fighting against oxidative stress effects to which animals are exposed both from endogenous and environmental sources.

To the editor： In migraine with aura （MA）, atypical aura may occur and can raise difficult diagnostic questions due to their clinical expression, their mode of onset or their duration.＇ Differential diagnostics, including cerebrovascular disease, must be always considered and brain magnetic resonance imaging （MRI） is usually required to carefully search for the underlying cause. Here we report a patient who presented with neuroradiologic imaging findings during prolonged migraine aura.

Plants have always been used by people for therapeutic purposes. They are still the main source of therapeutic substances in developing countries. Crateva adansonii, a member of the Capparidaceae family, is a medicinal plant with antibacterial properties used in Benin. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of an aqueous extract of C. adansonii on bacterial strains isolated from chronic wounds in the Ouinhi population. To achieve this, the bacterial flora present in chronic wounds was identified using the Ikram method (2014) coupled with the API Remoel One method. The antibacterial properties of the aqueous extract of C. adansonii on the microbial strains isolated were then assessed by determining the Inhibition Diameters (ID), the Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MIC) and finally the Minimum Bactericidal Concentrations (MBC). A total of eighty (80) strains were isolated and identified on the basis of morphological, cultural and biochemical characteristics. The species S. Aureus species accounted for the largest proportion (67.5%). Other species such as Listeria sp, Pseudomonas proteus, S. epidermidis and Bacillus cereus, Citrobacter freundii, Steno maltophila;Axin calcoaceticus, E. coli, K. pneumonia, Lem. richardii, Salmonella paratyphi A, Salmonella sp, Shigella sp were determined in variable proportions. At a concentration of 10 mg/ml, only S. aureus was sensitive to contact with the extract. However, at 20 mg/ml, 89% of strains were sensitive and 11% very sensitive. The highly sensitive strains are Salmonella sp and E. coli. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) are 20 mg/ml and 40 mg/ml respectively. The MBC/MIC ratio of the aqueous mixture of Crateva adansonii (Capparidaceae) varied from 1.2 to 2, with a bactericidal effect on 100% of the strains tested.

Mango is the third largest export fruit in Cote d’Ivoire. However, its yield is limited by the damage caused by fruit flies （Diptera： Tephritidae）. This study aimed at assessing the trapping system for fruit fly detection and monitoring in mango orchards in Northern C？te d’Ivoire. Four sites were selected in Northern C？te d’Ivoire in mango production area and in timber yard areas. Five trapping systems were tested： two food attractants （torula yeast, CeraTrap） and three sex attractants （methyl eugenol, trimedlure, cue-lure）. Plastic bottles were used for food attractants and commercial traps for sex attractants. Five traps per treatment with three repetitions per site were set up. Ten species of flies have been identified： Bactrocera dorsalis, B. cucurbitae, Ceratitis anonae, C. bremii, C. capitata, C. cosyra, C. punctata, Dacus ciliatus, D. punctatifrons and Dacus spp.. Among these species, B. dorsalis was dominant. It was captured by 94.04% and 90.94%, respectively, in mango orchards and forest areas included wild fruits. The average number of individuals captured varied from one species to another, depending on the attractants. This average was estimated to 379.91, 27.58, 25.55, 15.1 and 11.93, respectively, for méthyl eugénol, torula yeast, CeraTrap, cue-lure, trimedlure. The attractants have shown their specificity in capturing fly species. Methyl eugenol had the highest capture and was the most effective.
