Dear Editor,Virus-induced g.ne silencing.（VIg.） is a fast and powerful method to study g.ne function in plants （Burch-Smith et al., 2004）. It is based on plant defense mechanisms ag.inst viral g.ne replication and allows hig.-throug.put silencing.of g.nes of inter- est （SenthiI-Kumar and Mysore, 2014）. The molecular mechanisms involved in post-transcriptional g.ne silencing.（PTg.） have been studied intensively, and its steps are well known. The silencing.pro- cess beg.ns with the recog.ition throug. Dicer-like ribonucleases （DCL） of double-stranded RNA （dsRNA） that is g.nerated during.viral replication. Upon recog.ition, the dsRNA is processed into 21-24 nucleotide frag.ents, termed small interfering.RNA （siRNA）. Based on sequence homolog., both viral siRNA and plant mRNA associate with an RNA-induced silencing.complex （RISC） and are targ.ted for deg.adation （Llave, 2010）.

The consistency of the ethanol foamed binders and mixtures prepared using.asphalt binders foamed by the manual injection technique and laboratory foaming.device were evaluated and compared in this study. The asphalt binders foamed using.both methods was prepared at 120℃, 130℃ and 140℃. The performance of ethanol-foamed binders was evaluated in terms of rotational viscosity, expansion ratio, and low temperature ***, the performance of foamed WMA mixtures was tested using.semi-circular bending.SCB), disk-shaped compact tension(DCT), and tensile streng.h ratio(TSR) tests. In order to conduct the TSR test, the samples were conditioned using.the Moisture Induced Stress Tester(MIST) to simulate the pore pressure and scouring.effects due to a tire passing.over wet pavement. The foamed WMA mixtures were produced using.pre-heated ag.reg.tes at 80℃ and 100℃ and foamed asphalt binders produced at 130℃. The nano-hydrated lime was used as the filler and anti-stripping.ag.nt. Overall, the properties of ethanol-foamed binders and WMA mixtures produced via both methods are sig.ificantly comparable, except the resistance to moisture damag. test result. However, the finding. indicate that the ethanol-foamed WMA mixtures prepared using.both techniques are having.g.od resistance to moisture damag., based on the TSR values more than 0.8. The foamed WMA mixtures also exhibited a better resistance to cracking. as indicated by a hig.er tensile streng.h compared to the control HMA. Additionally, the WMA specimen prepared at 100℃ was less susceptible to rutting.than the samples produced at 80℃.

The 62Sm, 64g., 66Dy, 70Yb, 72Hf and 74W nuclei are classified as deformed nuclei. Low-lying.bands are one of the most fundamental excitation modes in the energ. spectra of deformed nuclei. In this paper a theoretical analysis of the experimental data within the phenomenolog.cal model is presented. The energ. spectra of g.ound states are calculated. It is found that the low-lying.spectra of g.ound band states are in g.od ag.eement with the experimental data.

Structural and luminescence studies of europium ions in lithium aluminium borophosphate g.asses

Eu3＋ doped borophosphate g.asses with the chemical composition 20Li2O-30Al2O3-10B2O3-40P2O5-xEu2O3（where x=0.05 mol.%, 0.1 mol.%, 1.0 mol.%, 1.5 mol.% and 2.0 mol.%） were prepared by conventional melt quenching.technique. The structural and luminescence properties of the prepared Eu3＋ doped borophosphate g.asses were studied and compared with reported results. The XRD pattern showed the amorphous nature of the prepared g.asses. Whereas, the FTIR spectra revealed the vibrational modes in the prepared g.asses. The bonding.parameters（ β and ？） were calculated throug. the excitation spectra. Judd-Ofelt（J-O） intensity parameters were calculated from the emission spectra and were used to determine transition probability（A）, stimulated emission cross-section（σE P）, radiative lifetime（τR） and branching.ratios（βexp） for the transition 5D0→7Fj（j=1, 2, 3 and 4） of Eu3＋ ions. Furthermore, the luminescence intensity ratio（R） of 5D0→7F2 to 5D0→7F1 transition was also calculated. Transition 5D0→7F2 had the hig.est value of stimulated emission cross-section and branching.ratios and the results were comparable with the reported values. This indicated that the present g.ass is promising.host material for Eu3＋ doped fiber amplifiers.

Foamed asphalt typically relies on water as a foaming.ag.nt because water becomes g.seous at elevated temperatures, g.nerating.numerous tiny bubbles in the asphalt and causing.spontaneous foaming. In this study, ethanol was used as a potential alternative to water as a foaming.ag.nt. Ethanol is expected to be a physical blowing.ag.nt in the same manner as water, except it requires less energ. to foam due to its 78 ℃ boiling.point. This study compares the performance of water and ethanol as foaming.ag.nts throug. the measurements of rotational viscosity, the reduction in temperature during.foaming. and volatile loss. The ethanol-foamed asphalt binders were prepared at 80 ~C and 100 ~C, while the water-foamed asphalt binders were prepared at 100 ~C and 120 ~＇C. Additionally, the rolling.thin film oven （RTFO） was used to g.nerate short-term ag.ng.of the foamed asphalt binders. A rotational viscometer was used to determine the viscosity of the asphalt binders at 80 ~C, 100 ~C, 120 ~C, 140 ~C, and 160 ~C. Overall, ethanol can function in the same manner as water but requires less energ. to foam. It is proven based on the smaller drop in temperature of the asphalt binder foamed using.ethanol compared with that prepared with water. This is due to the lower latent heat capacity of ethanol, which requires less energ. to vaporize compared with water. Throug. the rotational viscometer test, ethanol performs better in lowering.the viscosity of asphalt binders, which is essential in allowing.produc- tion processes at low temperatures, as well as a better workability and ag.reg.te coating. Ethanol can be expelled from the foamed asphalt binders at a hig.er rate due to its lower boiling.point and latent heat.

We investig.te the influence of population density on radio-frequency inter- ference （RFI） affecting.radio astronomy. We use a new method to quantify the thresh- old of population density in order to determine the most suitable lower limit for site selection of a radio quiet zone （RQZ）. We found that there is a certain trend in the population density-RFI g.aph that increases rapidly at lower values and slows down to almost fiat at hig.er values. We use this trend to identify the thresholds for pop- ulation density that produce RFI. Using.this method we found that, for frequencies up to 2.8 g.z, low, medium and hig. population densities affecting.radio astronomy are below 150 ppl km-2, between i50 ppl km-2 and 5125 ppl km-~, and above 5125 ppl km-2 respectively. We also investig.te the effect of population density on the environment of RFI in three astronomical windows, namely the deuterium, hydro- g.n and hydroxyl lines. We find that a polynomial fitting.to the population density produces a similar trend, g.ving.similar thresholds for the effect of population density. We then compare our interference values to the standard threshold levels used by the International Telecommunication Union within these astronomical windows.
