Phylogenetic relationships of five genera of Xylariales and Rosasphaeria gen.nov.(Hypocreales)

Eight inconspicuous non-stromatic perithecial fungi immersed in plant tissue are assessed with respect to their morphology,ecology and phylogenetic position.Emphasis is laid on two genera now and then placed in the family Hyponectriaceae,Xylariales:Leiosphaerella with its type species L.praeclara occurring on Vaccinium,and Pseudomassaria with its type species P.chondrospora occurring on Tilia.In molecular phylogenetic analyses of LSU and ITS sequences,the generic types of these genera are closely related,but their familial affiliation within Xylariales remains unresolved.Pseudomassaria sepincoliformis clusters with P.chondrospora,whereas P.fallax is not congeneric with Pseudomassaria and P.lycopodina is combined in Leiosphaerella despite its apiospores.Three species thought to belong to Leiosphaerella are re-assessed:L.moravica that occurs on Rosa,is disposed in the new genus Rosasphaeria,which is close to Eucasphaeria in the Niessliaceae(Hypocreales),according to multi-gene phylogenetic analyses(ITS,LSU,rpb2 and tef1).For L.vexata the genus Pseudomassariella is revived.A Leiosphaerellalike fungus on Lycopodium is described as the new species Monographella lycopodina.In addition the phylogenetic relationships of two fungi forming superficial stromata are here clarified:Collodiscula japonica belongs to the Xylariaceae,while Melogramma campylosporum may currently be interpreted as representing a family of its own,the Melogrammataceae.

Molecular phylogenetic analyses of LSU rDNA demonstrate monophyly of the genus Melanconiella,and its status as a genus distinct from Melanconis is confirmed.Data of macro-and microscopic morphology,pure cultures and phylogenetic analyses of partial SSU-ITS-LSU rDNA,tef1 and rpb2 sequences revealed 13 distinct species of Melanconiella,six of which are described as new(M.chrysodiscosporina,M.chrysomelanconium,M.chrysorientalis,M.echinata,M.elegans,M.meridionalis).Melanconiella hyperopta var.orientalis is described as a new variety.Diaporthe carpinicola,D.ellisii,D.flavovirens,D.hyperopta and D.ostryae are formally combined into Melanconiella.The name Melanconiella chrysostroma is excluded from Melanconiella,as it is an obligate synonym of Wuestneia xanthostroma.The type of Melanconiella is confirmed as M.spodiaea.Several species are lecto-and/or epitypified.A key to all treated species ofMelanconiella is provided,and the circumscriptions of the genera Melanconis and Melanconiella are emended.Most Melanconiella species revealed by molecular phylogenetic analyses can be well characterised by a suite of morphological traits including ascospore shape,length and width,colour,absence/presence and shape of appendages and the anamorph.Anamorph-teleomorph connections were confirmed by pure culture and DNA data,revealing the presence of a single melanconium-or discosporina-like anamorph for each species.Colony growth was found to be characteristic of the respective species.Melanconiella is shown to be confined to the host family Betulaceae,and all species are found to be highly host-specific,mostly confined to a single host species.The biodiversity ofMelanconiella was determined to be centred on the genus Carpinus with nine species,five of which have been confirmed on C.betulus.Europe appears to be the geographic centre of Melanconiella biodiversity.

We compare Newton’s force law of universal gravitation with a corrected simple approach based on Bhandari’s recently presented work, where the gravitation constant G is maintained. A reciprocity relation exists between both alternative gravity formulas with respect to the distances between mass centers. We conclude a one-to-one mapping of the two gravitational formulas. We don’t need Einstein’s construct of spacetime bending by matter.

Chemical looping combustion has the potential to be an efficient and low-cost technology capable of contributing to the reduction of the atmospheric concentration of CO_(2) in order to reach the 1.5/2°C goal and mitigate climate change.In this process,a metal oxide is used as oxygen carrier in a dual fluidized bed to generate clean CO_(2) via combustion of biomass.Most commonly,natural ores or synthetic materials are used as oxygen carrier whereas both must meet special requirements for the conversion of solid fuels.Synthetic oxygen carriers are characterized by higher reactivity at the expense of higher costs versus the lower-cost natural ores.To determine the viability of both possibilities,a techno-economic comparison of a synthetic material based on manganese,iron,and copper to the natural ore ilmenite was conducted.The synthetic oxygen carrier was characterized and tested in a pilot plant,where high combustion efficiencies up to 98.4%and carbon capture rates up to 98.5%were reached.The techno-economic assessment resulted in CO_(2) capture costs of 75 and 40€/tCO_(2) for the synthetic and natural ore route respectively,whereas a sensitivity analysis showed the high impact of production costs and attrition rates of the synthetic material.The synthetic oxygen carrier could break even with the natural ore in case of lower production costs and attrition rates,which could be reached by adapting the production process and recycling material.By comparison to state-of-the-art technologies,it is demonstrated that both routes are viable and the capture cost of CO_(2) could be reduced by implementing the chemical looping combustion technology.

Approximately 950 individual sequences of nonribosomally biosynthesised peptides are produced by the genus Trichoderma/Hypocreathat belong to a perpetually growing class of mostly linear antibiotic oligopeptides,which are rich in the non-proteinogenic α-aminoisobutyric acid(Aib).Thus,they are comprehensively named peptaibiotics.Notably,peptaibiotics represent ca.80% of the total inventory of secondarymetabolites currently known from Trichoderma/Hypocrea.Their unique membrane-modifying bioactivity results from amphipathicity and helicity,thus making them ideal candidates in assisting both colonisation and defence of the natural habitats by their fungal producers.Despite this,reports on the in vivo-detection of peptaibiotics have scarcely been published in the past.In order to evaluate the significance of peptaibiotic production for a broader range of potential producers,we screened nine specimens belonging to seven hitherto uninvestigated fungicolous or saprotrophic Trichoderma/Hypocrea species by liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray high resolution mass spectrometry.Sequences of peptaibiotics found were independently confirmed by analysing the peptaibiome of pure agar cultures obtained by single-ascospore isolation from the specimens.Of the nine species examined,five were screened positive for peptaibiotics.A total of 78 peptaibiotics were sequenced,56(=72%)of which are new.Notably,dihydroxyphenylalaninol and O-prenylated tyrosinol,two C-terminal residues,which have not been reported for peptaibiotics before,were found as well as new and recurrent sequences carrying the recently described tyrosinol residue at their C-terminus.The majority of peptaibiotics sequenced are 18-or 19-residue peptaibols.Structural homologies with‘classical representatives’of subfamily 1(SF1)-peptaibiotics argue for the formation of transmembrane ion channels,which are prone to facilitate the producer capture and defence of its substratum.

The distribution of oil and gas resources is intricately connected to the underlying structure of the lithosphere.Therefore,investigating the characteristics of lithospheric thickness and its correlation with oil and gas basins is highly important.This research utilizes recently enhanced geological–geophysical data,including topographic,geoid,rock layer thickness,variable rock layer density,and interface depth data.Employing the principles of lithospheric isostasy and heat conduction,we compute the laterally varying lithospheric thickness in the China seas and adjacent areas.From these results,two pivotal parameters for different types of oil and gas basins were statistically analyzed:the minimum lithospheric thickness and the relative fluctuation in lithospheric thickness.A semiquantitative analysis was used to explore the connection between these parameters and the hydrocarbon abundance within the oil and gas basins.This study unveils distinct variations in lithospheric thickness among basins,with oil and gas rich basins exhibiting a thicker lithosphere in the superimposed basins of central China and a thinner lithosphere in the rift basins of eastern China.Notably,the relative fluctuations in lithospheric thickness in basins demonstrate significant disparities:basins rich in oil and gas often exhibit greater thickness fluctuations.Additionally,in the offshore basins of China,a conspicuous negative linear correlation is observed between the minimum lithospheric thickness and the relative fluctuation in lithospheric thickness.This study posits that deep-seated thermal upwelling results in lithospheric undulations and extensional thinning in oil and gas basins.Concurrently,sustained deep-seated heat influences sedimentary materials in basins,creating favorable conditions for oil and gas generation.The insights derived from this study contribute to a quantitative understanding of the intricate relationships between deep lithospheric structures and oil and gas basins.These findings provide valuable guidance for fut

Background Despite advances in asthma treatments,severe asthma exacerbation(SAE)remains a life-threatening condition in adults,and there is a lack of data derived from adult patients admitted to intensive care units(ICUs)for SAE.The current study investigated changes in adult patient characteristics,management,and outcomes of SAE over a 20-year period in 40 ICUs in the greater Paris area.Methods In this retrospective observational study,admissions to 40 ICUs in the greater Paris area for SAE from January 1,1997,to December 31,2016 were analyzed.The primary outcome was the proportion of ICU admissions for SAE during 5-year periods.Secondary outcomes were ICU and hospital mortality,and the use of mechanical ventilation and catecholamine.Multivariate analysis was performed to assess factors associated with ICU mortality.Results A total of 7049 admissions for SAE were recorded.For each 5-year period,the proportion decreased over time,with SAE accounting for 2.84%of total ICU admissions(n=2841)between 1997 and 2001,1.76%(n=1717)between 2002 and 2006,1.05%(n=965)between 2007 and 2011,and 1.05%(n=1526)between 2012 and 2016.The median age was 46 years(interquartile range[IQR]:32–59 years),55.41%were female,the median Simplified Acute Physiology Score II was 20(IQR:13–28),and 19.76%had mechanical ventilation.The use of mechanical ventilation remained infrequent throughout the 20-year period,whereas the use of catecholamine decreased.ICU and hospital mortality rates decreased.Factors associated with ICU mortality were renal replacement therapy,catecholamine,cardiac arrest,pneumothorax,acute respiratory distress syndrome,sepsis,and invasive mechanical ventilation(IMV).Non-survivors were older,had more severe symptoms,and were more likely to have received IMV.Conclusion ICU admission for SAE remains uncommon,and the proportion of cases decreased over time.Despite a slight increase in symptom severity during a 20-year period,ICU and hospital mortality decreased.Patients requiring IMV had a higher mortality rate.

The simulation by the Monte Carlo method executed by the software PyPENELOPE proved effective to specify the particle propagation characteristics by calculating the absorption fractions, backscattering and transmission of electrons and secondary photons under the incidence of 0.5 to 20 KeV range of primary electrons. More than 99.9% of the primary electrons were transmitted in the 125 nm thick MgO/TiO2 material at 20 KeV. This occurred because several interactions took place in the transmitted primary irradiation such as characteristic, fluorescence, and bremsstrahlung produced when of the occupation of the KL3, KL2, KM3, and KM2 shell and sub-shell of titanium and magnesium which are the elements with a high atomic number in the material. The transmission particle characteristic of this material is therefore an indicator capable of improving the electrical performance and properties of the sensor.
