Unsupervised spectral feature selection algorithms for high dimensional data

It is a significant and challenging task to detect the informative features to carry out explainable analysis for high dimensional data,especially for those with very small number of *** selection especially the unsupervised ones are the right way to deal with this challenge and realize the ***,two unsupervised spectral feature selection algorithms are proposed in this *** group features using advanced Self-Tuning spectral clustering algorithm based on local standard deviation,so as to detect the global optimal feature clusters as far as *** two feature ranking techniques,including cosine-similarity-based feature ranking and entropy-based feature ranking,are proposed,so that the representative feature of each cluster can be detected to comprise the feature subset on which the explainable classification system will be *** effectiveness of the proposed algorithms is tested on high dimensional benchmark omics datasets and compared to peer methods,and the statistical test are conducted to determine whether or not the proposed spectral feature selection algorithms are significantly different from those of the peer *** extensive experiments demonstrate the proposed unsupervised spectral feature selection algorithms outperform the peer ones in comparison,especially the one based on cosine similarity feature ranking *** statistical test results show that the entropy feature ranking based spectral feature selection algorithm performs *** detected features demonstrate strong discriminative capabilities in downstream classifiers for omics data,such that the AI system built on them would be reliable and *** is especially significant in building transparent and trustworthy medical diagnostic systems from an interpretable AI perspective.

Synergy between thermal and nonthermal effects in plasmonic photocatalysis

Plasmonic photocatalysis represents the synergetic union of two active fields of research:plasmonic effects in illuminated metallic nanoparticles and catalytic effects in tailored metallic ***,metallic nanoparticles that excel for one application are limited for the other,but recent developments have shown that desirable catalytic behaviors,such as reduced activation barriers and improved product selectivity,derive from nonthermal behaviors uniquely produced by this *** examining such findings,this review will address a specific debate that has recently surfaced:what is the relative degree of contributions of thermal and nonthermal effects in plasmonic photocatalysis?We demonstrate the importance of correctly accounting for thermal effects before characterizing nonthermal *** show that another synergy occurs:these desirable nonthermal behaviors have a temperature dependence,and the resulting temperature-dependent reaction rates far exceed what can be explained from purely thermal effects ***,the synergy of plasmonic photocatalysis offers an exciting new contribution to the quest for efficient,selective,sustainable methods for chemical synthesis and energy conversion.

Jin Shengtan wrote his commentaries to the novel Water Margin(Shuihuzhuan)between 1641 and 1644,during the final years before the fall of the Ming *** commentaries are exceptional at least in part because they reflect Jin's frustrations that came from trying to understand this period of *** they are also a good example of how fiction commentary helped to shape the trajectory that the development of Chinese fiction would take,in the form of commentaries and *** article offers a reading of Jin's commentaries to his 70-chapter edition of the Water Margin,to investigate how Jin radically reshaped the Water Margin as the masterpiece of a commentator of great literary *** analyses Jin's rhetoric of controlling interpretation and concludes that Jin's ultimate goal was to stabilize and prevent tampering of his"original"70-chapter edition,in an attempt to close off future possibilities of"sequeling"the Water Margin.

Risk communication is a significant challenge in risk *** serves different purposes;an important one is to improve the public risk awareness and *** of the strong spatio-temporal component of natural hazards,maps can play a decisive role in communicating risk *** application and design of maps for risk communication especially to the public has not been investigated *** constraints and challenges of risk communication have not been considered systematically in the map design process so *** study aims at developing a frame for the application and design of interactive risk and hazard maps for the public which is based on the specific constraints and challenges of risk *** a literature review it introduces concepts and methods from social sciences and psychology,which have been assessed as important for communicating risk *** concepts and methods are adapted to map-mediated risk communication according to the approaches of Activity *** objectives and tasks which are essential to improve risk mitigation are identified and geovisualization methods for information presentation are related according to the degree which they are able to serve *** on this,some principles for map-based risk communication are established.

Media Preference, Information Needs, and the Language Proficiency of Foreigners in Japan after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake

After the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, the Japanese government identified the lack of proficiency in the Japanese language as one characteristic of foreigners that should be considered in disaster prevention *** article seeks to understand how proficiency in a local language affects disaster information gathering behavior by using the results of a questionnaire survey conducted after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. Respondents were categorized based on their Japanese and English language abilities. Their media mode, language preferences, information importance, and information-gathering difficulties also were examined. It was found that foreigners skilled in Japanese demonstrated similar information gathering behavior as Japanese respondents, but foreigners unskilled in Japanese showed little usage of Japanese-language media. This group also encountered difficulties due to a lack of Japanese proficiency, but many members were able to acquire some level of Japanese-language information through Internet-based methods. To address language proficiency in disaster prevention planning, information provision in languages other than Japanese should be increased, and Japanese information should be shared in a way that facilitates translation. Although this survey wassignificant in its scope, the results should be considered within the limitations of the Internet-based response collection and focus only on the less-affected area of Japan.

A new approach for deposition of silver film from AgCl through successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction technique

An attempt was made to deposit thin film of silver onto the glass substrate by using Ag Cl precursor, instead of conventional precursor AgNO_3 with vitamin C by inexpensive and convenient successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction(SILAR) method. The deposited silver thin film was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscope(SEM), UV-visible and electrical I-V study. The diffraction study showed FCC structure of metallic silver in good agreement with the standard values of JCPDS(04–0783). SEM reveals flower like nano particles produced on the substrate. The surface plasmon resonance(SPR) peak in the UV-visible spectrum shows maximum absorption at 350 nm. The film shows an ohmic behavior and its electrical resistivity was found ~103 ?·cm at room temperature.

Confirming nonthermal plasmonic effects enhance CO2 methanation on Rh/TiO2 catalysts

In some cases, illumination of traditional thermal catalysts and tailored plasmonic photocatalysts may synergistically combine thermal and nonthermal mechanisms to enhance reaction rates and improve product selectivity at reduced temperatures. To understand how these attributes are achieved in plasmon-driven catalysis, these intertwined thermal and nonthermal effects must be untangled. Here, we show how a novel indirect illumination technique, in conjunction with precisely monitored thermal profiles of the catalyst, can confirm and clarify the role of nonthermal effects in plasmon-enhanced carbon dioxide methanation on a Rh/TiO2 photocatalyst. We find that the extracted nonthermal methane production rate has a linear dependence on the top surface temperature, distinctly different from an exponential dependence for thermal catalysis. We also find that the apparent quantum efficiency from the nonthermal contribution has no dependence on light intensity but maintains a linear dependence on top surface temperatures between 200 and 350℃. The clear exposition of nonthermal effects in the Rh/TiO2 plasmonic photocatalyst illustrates how this methodology may be applied for the quantitative evaluation of thermal and nonthermal light effects in other plasmon-enhanced catalytic reactions.

A pan-cancer integrative pathway analysis of multi-omics data
