Background: Staphylococcus aureusis a virulent pathogen that is commonly found in hospitals and community ***-resistance ***(MRSA),which has developed resistance to almost all kinds of antibiotics,is a pathogen that is responsible for over 50%*** worldwide and the mortality rate of MRSA infection is more than 20%.Due to its multi-drug resistance,it is challenging to control and treat this pathogen with standard antibiotic *** has been considered the last-resort treatment;however,even vancomycin-resistant *** has been reported ***, there is an urgent need to develop new antibiotic drugs or new strategies ***,a label-free quantitative proteomics method has been developed to study the MRSA resistance study to oxacillin in our *** method not only recovered the main resistance mechanism to oxacillin-treated MRSA,but also provided a system-wide view of how MRSA respondto *** this paper,erythromycinresistance mechanism is studied by the same label-free quantitative proteomics method. In recent years, utilization of renewable sources for biofuel production is gaining popularity due to growing greenhouse gas(GHG) emissions which causes global warming. There has been a great effort in exploring alternative feedstock for bioethanol production. In this context, the production of third-generation bioethanol from macroalgae has emerged as an alternative feedstock to food crop-based starch and lignocellulosic *** is mainly due to the fast growth rate of macroalgae, no competition with agricultural land, high carbohydrate content and relatively simple processing steps compared to lignocellulosic biomass. This review paper provides an insight of recent innovative approaches for macroalgae bioethanol production, including conventional and advanced hydrolysis process to produce fermentable sugar, various fermentation technologies, economic analysis and life cycle assessment. With the current technology maturity, efficient utilization of macroalgae as sustainable source for bioethanol and other value-added chemicals production could be achieved in the near future.

The rising production of produced water from oilfields had been proven to bring detrimental environmental *** this study,an efficient,recyclable,and environmental-friendly reduced graphene oxide immobilizedκ-Carrageenan hydrogel composite(κCaGO)was fabricated as an alternative sorbent for crude oil-in-water ***(PEI)was employed to form a stable hydrogel *** conditions for the immobilization of graphene oxide(GO)on PEI-modifiedκ-Carrageenan(κC)beads were optimized *** immobilization yield of 77%was attained at 2%PEI,2 h immobilization activation time,and pH ***,the synthesizedκCaGO is capable of demulsification with an average demulsification efficiency of 70%.It was found that the demulsification efficiency increases with salinity andκCaGO dosage,and it deteriorates under alkaline *** phenomena can be attributed to the interfacial interactions betweenκCaGO and the ***,theκCaGO can be recycled to use for up to six cycles without significant leaching and *** such,the synthesizedκCaGO could be further developed as a potential sorbent substitute for the separation of crude oil from produced water.

We proposed a novel solution schema called the Hierarchical Labeling Schema （HLS） to answer reachability queries in directed graphs. Different from many existing approaches that focus on static directed acyclic graphs （DAGs）, our schema focuses on directed cyclic graphs （DCGs） where vertices or arcs could be added to a graph incrementally. Unlike many of the traditional approaches, HLS does not require the graph to be acyclic in constructing its index. Therefore, it could, in fact, be applied to both DAGs and DCGs. When vertices or arcs are added to a graph, the HLS is capable of updating the index incrementally instead of re-computing the index from the scratch each time, making it more efficient than many other approaches in the practice. The basic idea of HLS is to create a tree for each vertex in a graph and link the trees together so that whenever two vertices are given, we can immediately know whether there is a path between them by referring to the appropriate trees. We conducted extensive experiments on both real-world datasets and synthesized datasets. We compared the performance of HLS, in terms of index construction time, query processing time and space consumption, with two state-of-the-art methodologies, the path-tree method and the 3-hop method. We also conducted simulations to model the situation when a graph is updated incrementally. The performance comparison of different algorithms against HLS on static graphs has also been studied. Our results show that HLS is highly competitive in the practice and is particularly useful in the cases where the graphs are updated frequently.

The ability to control mammalian cells such that they self-organize or enact therapeutic effects as desired has incredible *** only would it further our understanding of native processes such as development and the immune response,but it would also have powerful applications in medical fields such as regenerative medicine and *** control is typically obtained by synthetic circuits that use synthetic receptors,but control remains *** synthetic juxtacrine receptors(SJRs)are widely used as they are fully modular and enable spatial control,but they have limited gene expression amplification and temporal *** these are integral facets to cell control,I therefore designed transcription factor based amplifiers that amplify gene expression and enable unidirectional temporal control by prolonging duration of target gene *** a validated in silico framework for SJR signaling,I combined these amplifiers with SJRs and show that these SJR amplifier circuits can direct spatiotemporal patterning and improve the quality of self-organization.I then show that these circuits can improve chimeric antigen receptor(CAR)T cell tumor killing against various heterogenous antigen expression *** amplifiers are flexible tools that improve control over SJR based circuits with both basic and therapeutic applications.

BACKGROUND: Chemoembolization with doxorubucin-eluting beads (DEB) has been used to treat hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) since 2007. This study compared the efifcacy and sur-vival between transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) with DEB and conventional approach (cTACE) in HCC treatment. METHODS: This retrospective case-control study compared the overall survival and tumor response of HCC patients to cTACE (n=190) and DEB (n=143) by the reassessment of com-puted tomography and serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP). Mul-tivariate analysis was used to determine the factors affecting tumor response. RESULTS: The median post-treatment to pre-treatment AFP level was 0.8 for a DEB session (n=258) and 1.0 for a cTACE session (n=452), showing a signiifcantly greater decrease in AFP after DEB (P80 months after the ifrst TACE session in the DEB group. CONCLUSION: DEB is a safe alternative to cTACE in HCC pa-tients with better therapeutic efifcacy.

Phase change memory (PCM) is a non-volatile solid-state memory technology based on the large resistivity contrast between the amorphous and crystalline states in phase change materials. We present the physics behind this large resistivity contrast and describe how it is being exploited to create high density PCM. We address the challenges facing this technology, including the design of PCM cells, fabrication, device variability, thermal cross-talk and write disturb. We discuss the scalability, assess the performance, and examine the reliability of PCM including data retention, multi-bit storage and endurance.

Schistosomal appendicitis(SA)is a rare but serious complication of schistosomiasis,a parasitic disease affecting over 250 million people worldwide.A recent retrospective study by Wang et al provides important insights into the clinicopathological characteristics of *** study compared 136 cases of SA to 5418 cases of non-SA over a ten-year *** findings include a higher average age of SA patients(61.73 years vs 35.8 years for non-SA),a higher proportion of acute on chronic appendicitis(33.1%vs 16%),and a significantly higher incidence of colorectal cancer(11.7%vs 2.2%).Despite these differences,SA remains a diagnostic challenge due to its nonspecific clinical presentation and lack of specific laboratory *** study also highlights the persistent prevalence of SA,accounting for 1.6%-3.4%of all appendicitis cases each year from 2013 to *** findings underscore the need for enhanced awareness,early detection,and prompt treatment of SA in endemic *** the association with colorectal cancer,patients with SA require thorough screening and *** research into the pathogenesis and diagnostic markers of SA is *** the global battle against schistosomiasis continues,targeted efforts to diagnose and manage SA can significantly improve patient outcomes.

The ability of an interferometer to characterize the spatial information of a light beam is often limited by the temporal profile of the beam,with femtosecond pulse characterization being particularly *** this study,we developed a simple,stable,controllable shearing and vectorial phase-shifting wedged reversal shearing interferometer that is able to characterize all types of coherent and partially coherent light *** proposed interferometer consists of only a single beam splitter cube with one wedged entrance face and is insensitive to environmental vibration due to its common path configuration.A near zero-path length difference of the proposed interferometer ensures its operation for ultrashort pulses,providing,for the first time,a simple and stable interferometric tool to fully characterize sub-100 fs laser *** common beam characterization can be carried out with the interferometer,such as the amplitude,phase,polarization,wavelength,and pulse ***,this technique is sensitive to the wavefront tilt and can be used for precise beam ***,this interferometer can be an essential tool for beam characterization,optical imaging,and the testing required for a wide range of applications,including astronomy,biomedicine,ophthalmology,optical testing and imaging systems,and adaptive optics.
