The effectiveness of different wear indicators in quantifying wear on railway wheels of freight wagons

Railway infrastructure relies on the dynamic interaction between wheels and rails;thus,assessing wheel wear is a critical aspect of maintenance and *** paper focuses on the wheel-rail wear indicator T-gamma(Tγ).Amidst its use,it becomes apparent that Tγ,while valuable,fails to provide a comprehensive reflection of the actual material removal and actual contact format,which means that using only Tγas a target for optimization of profiles is not *** this work,three different freight wagons are evaluated:a meter-gauge and a broad-gauge heavy haul vehicles from South American railways,and a standard-gauge freight vehicle operated in Europe,with different axle loads and dissimilar new wheel/rail *** vehicles are subjected to comprehensive multibody simulations on various *** simulations aimed to elucidate the intricate relationship between different wear indicators:Tγ,wear index,material removal,and maximum wear depth,under diverse curves,non-compensated lateral accelerations(A_(nc)),and *** findings showed a correlation of 0.96 between Tγand wear depth and 0.82 between wear index and material removed for the outer *** the results,the Tγis better than the wear index to be used when analyzing wear depth while the wear index is more suited to foresee the material *** results also show the low influence of A_(nc)on wear index and Tγ.By considering these factors together,the study aims to improve the understanding of wheel-rail wear by selecting the best wear analysis approaches based on the effectiveness of each parameter.

Five Year Follow up after Surgical Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes with Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy Associated with a Duodenal Ileal Interposition

Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) is a chronic disease, primarily caused by a combination of defective insulin secretion and the inability of insulin-sensitive tissues to respond to insulin. Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy associated with duodenal ileal interposition (SGDII) has been shown to be a feasible treatment option for patients with T2D, as it provides improvement and control of glycemia, dyslipidemia and arterial hypertension. The aim of this study was to evaluate the mid and long-term results of SGDII for the treatment of diabetic patients, considering diabetic remission, weight loss and postoperative complications. materials and methods: Retrospective study with 96 patients with T2D submitted to SGDII, between 2010 and 2016. The glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) value Results: Sixty-one patients (62.8%) were male, and 36 patients (37.2%) were female. The average age was 50.9 years. median BmI was 33.43 kg/m2. The incidence of major postoperative complications in the first 30 days was 2.1%, with no mortality. Dyslipidemia control was sustained, after five years, in 62% of the patients. The five years follow-up demonstrated that 80% of patients had T2D remission at one year, 74.5% at three years and 61.8% at five years. Univariate analysis demonstrated that preoperative values of HbA1c and BmI, preoperative use of insulin, gender, and 30-day complication were not predictors of remission at all study intervals. The average duration of the disease was nine years and the mean glycated hemoglobin before surgery was 8.95%. conclusion: SGDII resulted in good glycemic control at 5-years follow-up and represents a valid alternative for the treatment of T2D.

Water pollution caused by heavy metals ions has been gaining attention in recent years,increasing the interest in the development of methodologies for their efficient removal focusing on the adsorption process for these *** current challenge faced by adsorption processes is the adequate adsorbent immobilization for removal and ***,the present work aimed at producing a faujasite zeolite nanocomposite decorated with cobalt ferrite nanoparticles for Pb^2+ions adsorption in an aqueous medium improving magnetic removal and *** a result,a high surface area(434.4 m^2·g^-1)for the nanocomposite and an 18.93 emu·g^-1 saturation magnetization value were obtained,indicating magnetic removal in a promising material for adsorption *** nanocomposite regeneration capacity evaluated by magnetic recovery after 24 h suspension presented a high Pb^2+ion adsorptive capacity(98.4%)in the first *** 98%of the Pb^2+ions were adsorbed in the second *** this way,the synthesized faujasite:cobalt ferrite nanocomposite reveals itself as a promising alternative in adsorption processes,aiming at a synergic effect of FAU zeolite high adsorptive activity and the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles magnetic activity,allowing for adsorbent recovery from the aqueous medium via magnetic force and successive adsorptive cycles.

Farmers＇ Perceived Impact of Fair Trade： The case of costa Rica

The perceived usefulness of Fair Trade influences both its effectiveness and farmers＇ long-term participation. The aim of this paper is to measure the perceived economic, social and environmental impact of Fair Trade by farmers in costa Rica. One hundred farmers were interviewed, and their perceived change in living and working conditions due to Fair Trade participation was measured through a t-test analysis. The sample characters＇ influence on the perceived change was also measured, adopting a regression model and a t-test. The results showed a positive perception of the impact of Fair Trade, with a particularly strong perceived improvement in the farmers＇ technical, economic and managerial skills. There was relatively less perceived change in the environmental, educational and sanitary conditions. The results showed the need for Fair Trade to better adjust its strategy to the expectations of the farmers＇ communities.

Short-term microbial responses to soluble inorganic P input in a tropical lowland rain forest in Amazonia

Oncologic aspects of the decision-making process for surgical approach for colorectal liver metastases progressing during chemotherapy

chagas heart disease(cHD)affects approximately 30%of patients chronically infected with the protozoa Trypanosoma *** is classified into four stages of increasing severity according to electrocardiographic,echocardiographic,and clinical *** presents with a myriad of clinical manifestations,but its main complications are sudden cardiac death,heart failure,and ***,cHD has a higher incidence of sudden cardiac death and stroke than most other cardiopathies,and patients with cHD complicated by heart failure have a higher mortality than patients with heart failure caused by other *** patients with cHD,approximately 90%of deaths can be attributed to complications of chagas *** cardiac death is the most common cause of death(55%–60%),followed by heart failure(25%–30%)and stroke(10%–15%).The high morbimortality and the unique characteristics of cHD demand an individualized approach according to the stage of the disease and associated complications the patient presents ***,the management of cHD is challenging,and in this review,we present the most updated available data to help clinicians and cardiologists in the care of these *** describe the clinical manifestations,diagnosis and classification criteria,risk stratification,and approach to the different clinical aspects of cHD using diagnostic tools and pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.

Estimate of the energy value of soybean meal relative to corn based on growth performance of nursery pigs

Background:Two experiments were conducted to determine the effects of increasing amounts of soybean meal(SBm)in swine diets and estimate the energy value of ***:A total of 2233 pigs(PIc 337×1050,Hendersonville,TN)and 3796 pigs(PIc 359×c40),initially 11.0 kg and 17.6 kg body weight(BW),were used in Exp.1 and 2,*** Exp.1,pigs were placed in 92 pens each containing 20 to 27 *** Exp.2,pigs were placed in 84 pens each containing 37 to 43 *** were assigned in a randomized complete block design with BW as the blocking *** treatments consisted of 21%,27%,33%,or 39%SBm in Exp.1 and 17.5%,22%,26.5%,31%,35.5%,or 40%SBm in Exp.2,obtained by changing the inclusion rate of feed-grade amino acids and corn *** Exp.1,representative samples of corn grain,SBm,and distillers dried grains with solubles were analyzed for total AA content prior to diet *** Exp.2,diets were formulated using NRc(2012)nutrient *** diets were fed for 21 and 22 d(Exp.1 and 2)and there were 23 replicates in Exp.1 and 14 replicates in *** were weighed and feed disappearance measured weekly to calculate average daily gain(ADG),average daily feed intake(ADFI),gain-to-feed ratio(G:F),and caloric efficiency(cE).Data were analyzed with block as a random effect and treatment as a fixed effect,and contrasts were constructed to test the linear and quadratic effects of increasing ***:In Exp.1,there was a tendency(linear,P=0.092)for a decrease in ADFI as SBm *** was a tendency(P=0.090)for a quadratic response for ADG,with a decrease in ADG observed with 39%SBm *** fed diets with increasing SBm had a tendency(quadratic,P=0.069)for an increase in G:F up to 33%SBm and an improvement(linear,P=0.001;quadratic,P=0.063)in cE with increasing *** cE to estimate the energy of SBm relative to corn,a value of 105.4%of corn energy or 2816 kcal/kg NE was determined using all data *** removing the cE value

Because of the presence of modified warp factors in metric tensors,we use deformed AdS5 spaces to apply the AdS/cFT correspondence to calculate the spectra for even and odd glueballs,scalar and vector mesons,and baryons with different *** the glueball cases,we derive their Regge trajectories and compare them with those related to the pomeron and the *** the scalar and vector mesons,as well as baryons,the determined masses are compatible with the *** particular,for these hadrons we found Regge trajectories compatible with another holographic approach as well as with the hadronic spectroscopy,which present an universal Regge slope of approximately 1.1 GeV^2.
