Cereal cyst nematode（Heterodera avenae, CCN） distributes worldwide and has caused severe damage to cereal crops, and a model host will greatly aid in the study of this nematode. In this research, we assessed the sensitivity of 25 inbred lines of Brachypodium distachyon to H. avenae from Beijing, China. All lines of B. distachyon were infested by secondstage juveniles（J2s） of H. avenae from Daxing District of Beijing population, but only 13 inbred lines reproduced 0.2–3 cysts/plant, showing resistance. The entire root system of the infested B. distachyon appeared smaller and the fibrous roots were shorter and less numerous. We found that a dose of 1 000 J2s of H. avenae was sufficient for nematode infestation. We showed that Koz-1 of B. distachyon could reproduce more cysts than TR2A line. Line Koz-1 also supported the complete life cycles of 5 CCN geographical populations belonging to the Ha1 or Ha3 pathotype group. Our results suggest that B. distachyon is a host for CCN.

AIM:To investigate the antioxidant activity of chitooligosaccharides(COSs)on pancreatic islet cells in diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin. METHODS:The antioxidant effect of COSs on pancreatic islet cells was detected under optical microscopy and with colorimetric assay and gel *** activities of glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase,total antioxidant capacity,and content of malondialdehyde in serum and tissue slices of pancreas were examined after 60 d to determine the effect of COSs in streptozotocin-induced diabetes in rats. RESULTS:COSs can prohibit the apoptosis of pancreatic islet *** concentrations of COSs can improve the capability of total antioxidant capacity and activity of superoxide dismutase and decrease the content of malondialdehyde *** investigation in the pancreas showed that COSs have resulted in the reduction of islets,loss of pancreatic cells,and nuclear pyknosis of pancreatic cells. CONCLUSION:COSs possess various biological activities and can be used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.

Background:There is scarce research on large cohorts with tetralogy of Fallot(TOF)from *** database in Fuwai Hospital was reviewed to ascertain current trends in the management of TOF and to determine the prevalence of various surgical techniques and the optimal early ***:This cross-sectional study included 1861 patients who underwent surgery between 2012 and 2017 and were aged 0-18 years old with a primary diagnosis of TOF.A total of 1760 eligible patients were included in the ***:A total of 1683 patients underwent repair of TOF as a one-stage operation(primary repair).Sixty-one patients underwent repair of TOF after prior *** patients who underwent one-stage repair(n=1683):858 were 6 months to 1 year old,421 were 1 to 2 years old,251 were 2-18 years old,and 145 were 3 to 6 months *** patients who underwent repair following prior palliation(n=61),58(95.1%)were older than 1 year of *** 1744 complete repairs,986(56.0%)had annulus-sparing(AS)*** in-hospital mortality was 15 of 1744(0.9%)for complete repair(including one-stage and staged repairs).The total incidence of the optimal early outcome was 78.2%in terms of a composite of the absence of death in the first year,significant right ventricular outflow tract obstruction,significant pulmonary valve insufficiency,or catheter or surgical ***:Surgical correction in patients with TOF can achieve an acceptable outcome in terms of death and *** repair at 6 months to 1 year of age is the most prevalent strategy in our ***,the relatively high incidence of early undesirable surgical adequacy of the pulmonary valve(PV)represents a wake-up call.

Reinstate the Damaged VEGF Signaling Pathway with VEGF-activating Transcription Factor

Objective To investigate the role of vascular endothelial growth factor-activating transcriptional factor (VEGF-ATF) on the VEGF signaling pathway in diabetes mellitus. Methods Totally, 20 C57BL/6 mice fed with high fat diet was induced into diabetes mellitus. Ten diabetes mellitus mice received a lower limb muscle injection with VEGF-ATF plasmid, and another ten were as control. VEGF-ATF is an engineered transcription factor designed to increase VEGF expression. Three days later, mice were sacrificed and the injected gastrocnemius was used for analysis. VEGF mRNA and protein expressions were examined by real-time PCR and ELISA respectively. VEGF receptor 2 mRNA expression was tested with RT-PCR. Phosphorylated Akt, Akt, endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), and phosphorylated eNOS were assessed by western blot. Results At 3 days post-injection, in mice with diabetes mellitus, VEGF gene transfer increased VEGF mRNA copies and VEGF protein expression in injected muscles compared with control; and reinstated the impaired VEGF signaling pathway with increasing the ratios of phosphorylated Akt/Akt and phosphorylated eNOS/eNOS. However, it did not affect the expression of VEGF receptor 2 mRNA. Conclusion Gene transfer with VEGF-ATF is able to reinstate the impaired VEGF downstream pathway, and potentially promote therapeutic angiogenesis in mice with diabetes mellitus.

The compressible effect of water is often neglected in the simulation of hydraulic machinery. However, based on experimental and numerical study, it is found that the compressibility of water could influence the magnitude of the pressure pulsation at some frequency in the pump. Therefore, in order to investigate the influence of water compressibility, compressible model is established by using Tait equation. The internal flow of centrifugal pump under different conditions is calculated by this model. The calculated results are compared with the incompressible results, and it is indicated that the compressibility of water has little effect on the performance parameters. But it affects the amplitude of pressure fluctuations at some discrete frequency, especially at the outlet of impeller and volute tongue where significant jet-wake and rotor/stator interaction appears respectively. Meanwhile, water compressibility makes greater influence on the flow pulsation under off-design condition. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the compressibility of working medium in the numerical simulation of unsteady flow in centrifugal pumps, especially in area with strong unsteady flow and at off-design condition.

Peripheral nerve injury(PNI)is common and,unlike damage to the central nervous system injured nerves can effectively regenerate depending on the location and severity of *** myelinating glia,Schwann cells(SCs),interact with various cells in and around the injury site and are important for debris elimination,repair,and nerve *** PNI,Wallerian degeneration of the distal stump is rapidly initiated by degeneration of damaged axons followed by morphologic changes in SCs and the recruitment of circulating *** with fibroblasts from the injured nerve microenvironment also plays a role in nerve *** replication and migration of injury-induced dedifferentiated SCs are also important in repairing the *** particular,SC migration stimulates axonal regeneration and subsequent myelination of regenerated nerve *** mobility increases SC interactions with other cells in the nerve and the exogenous environment,which influence SC behavior *** PNI,SCs directly and indirectly interact with other SCs,fibroblasts,and *** addition,the inter-and intracellular mechanisms that underlie morphological and functional changes in SCs following PNI still require further research to explain known phenomena and less understood cell-specific roles in the repair of the injured peripheral *** review provides a basic assessment of SC function post-PNI,as well as a more comprehensive evaluation of the literature concerning the SC interactions with macrophages and fibroblasts that can influence SC behavior and,ultimately,repair of the injured nerve.

Though it is still a big challenge to unify general relativity and quantum mechanics in modern physics, the theory of quantum field related with the gravitational effect has been well developed and some striking phenomena are predicted, such as Hawking radiation. However, the direct measurement of these quantum effects under general relativity is far beyond present experiment techniques. Fortunately, the emulation of general relativity phenomena in the laboratory has become accessible in recent years. However, up to now,these simulations are limited either in classical regime or in flat space whereas quantum simulation related with general relativity is rarely involved. Here we propose and experimentally demonstrate a quantum evolution of fermions in close proximity to an artificial black hole on a photonic chip. We successfully observe the acceleration behavior, quantum creation, and evolution of a fermion pair near the event horizon:a single-photon wave packet with positive energy escapes from the black hole while negative energy is captured. Our extensible platform not only provides a route to access quantum effects related with general relativity, but also has the potentiality to investigate quantum gravity in future.

近年来随着经济快速发展,化工行业产生大量高浓度有机废水,此类废水中有机污染物浓度高、污染物种类多、性质差异大、毒性大,存在巨大的环境风险。本文对Web of Science(WOS)核心合集数据库和中国知网(CNKI)核心论文数据库中的相关文献进行可视化处理,综述了国内外高浓度有机废水研究现状。该领域近十年来我国研究热点集中于高浓度有机废水的“零排放”、资源化利用、膜处理、生化-物化技术方面的研究。并结合现有问题从组合工艺高效处理废水与低成本资源化方向提出可行性建议,包括:1)针对性组合工艺发展,因地制宜实现高浓度有机废水高效、绿色、低价处理;2)开发新型水处理技术,实现低成本、低碳化、高效率工艺升级;3)提升资源化效率,实现水、盐、贵金属和高值有机物甚至是过程中产生热能的回收利用,提升低值废盐等的高值利用;4)模块化和智能化,结合人工智能等实现处理单元模块化、智能化等,升级环保产业新质生产力。
