Optical Wireless Communication(OWC)is a new trend in communication systems to achieve large bandwidth,high bit rate,high security,fast deployment,and low *** basic idea of the OWC is to transmit data on unguided media with *** system requires multi-carrier modulation such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM).This paper studies optical OFDM performance based on Intensity Modulation with Direct Detection(IM/DD)*** system requires a non-negativity *** paper presents a framework for wireless optical OFDM system that comprises(IM/DD)with different forms,Direct Current biased Optical OFDM(DCO-OFDM),Asymmetrically Clipped Optical OFDM(ACO-OFDM),Asymmetrically DC-biased Optical OFDM(ADO-OFDM),and *** also considers channel coding as a tool for error control,channel equalization for reducing deterioration due to channel effects,and investigation of the turbulence *** evaluation results of the proposed framework reveal enhancement of *** performance of the IM/DD-OFDM system is investigated over different channel models such as AWGN,log-normal turbulence channel model,and ceiling bounce channel *** simulation results show that the BER performance of the IM/DD-OFDM communication system is enhanced while the fading strength is *** results reveal also that Hamming codes,BCH codes,and convolutional codes achieve better BER ***,two algorithms of channel estimation and equalization are considered and *** algorithms include the Least Squares(LS)and the Minimum Mean Square Error(MMSE).The simulation results show that the MMSE algorithm gives better BER performance than the LS algorithm.

Low-Dose Involved-Field Radiotherapy in Relapsed Low-Grade Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in Elderly Patients (Mansoura University Experience)

Purpose: To assess the response rate, duration of response and prognostic factors affecting response after low-dose involved-field radiotherapy in patients with relapsed low-grade B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Patients and Methods: Forty-four patients were included. Patients were treated with a total dose of 4 Gy (2 × 2 Gy) using 6 - 15 Mv photon or electron beam. Results: most patients were above age of 60 years (59%) with male predominance. Follicular lymphoma was the most common pathological type;bulky disease (>5 cm) was presented in 61.4%. Patients who received only 2 regimens were 63.7% and 31.8% had >2 involved sites. No treatment related toxicity was observed. The overall response rate was 88.7%;complete response was reached in 59.1% and stable disease in 6.8%, progressive disease in 4.5%. Median time to local progression was 33 months (95% CI 23.70 - 42.29);2-year local progression free survival was 78%. Response rate was found to be dependent on age, number of involved sites and lymph node size but independent on sex, pathological type, number of prior regimens, LDH level and time since diagnosis. Conclusion: Short-course-low dose palliative radiotherapy (2 × 2 Gy) affords an attractive option for treatment of relapsed low-grade non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma due to high response rates. However, these results had to be confirmed in a larger number of patients.

The reaction of the tetrahydrobenzo[b]thiophene derivatives 1a,b with benzoylisothiocyanate (2) afforded the thiourea derivatives 3a,b. Cyclization of the latter products gave the annulated products 4a,b. Compounds 3a,b reacted with either hydrazine hydrate (5a) or phenyl hydrazine (5b) afforded compounds 7a-d which underwent cyclization for compounds 7a,c afforded compound 9. On the other hand compounds 4a,b reacted with either hydrazine hydrate (5a) or phenyl hydrazine (5b) afforded compounds 6a-d a second pathway was applied to synthesize compound 6c which underwent cyclization afforded compound 9. Also compounds 4a,b reacted with either phenacyl bromide (10) afforded compounds 11a,b or ethylchloroacetae (12) compounds 13a,b were produced. The latter products reacted with each hydrazine hydrate (5a) and phenyl hydrazine (5b) afforded compounds 14a-d. Their antitumor activities were tested using three different cell lines.

Background: Cardiovascular complications are a major clinical problem in uremic patients accounting for 44% of all deaths in this population. Angiopoietin cytokines are involved with controlling micro vascular permeability, vasodilatation and vasoconstriction by signaling smooth muscle cells surrounding vessels. Aim: To assess Angiopoietin-2 serum level as an early marker of cardiovascular risks in children with chronic kidney disease on regular hemodialysis and correlate with intimal medial thickness and echo data in those children. Patients and methods: The study included 40 children with CKD on regular hemodialysis (HD), and they were selected from the hemodialysis unit of Al-Zahraa Hospital, Al-Azhar University, during the period from December 2014 to April 2015. Another group of 40 apparently healthy children, matches age and sex with patients group as a controls. Angiopoietin-2 serum level, Doppler ultrasound (U/S) to assess: intima-media thickness (IMT) and the peak systolic velocity (PSV) of the main arteries including the (aorta, carotid and femoral) arteries, conventional echo and tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) of mitral and tricuspid annular velocities are obtained for both groups. Results: Children on regular HD have significantly higher (Angiopoietin-2) serum level compared to their controls, and it is (161.35 ± 38.30 ng/ml) and (9.25 ± 12.64 ng/ml) respectively (p, 0.000) and increases in the aorta, carotid and femoral (IMT) with significant increase in their mean systolic velocities in patients group compared to the controls. Significant increase in tricuspid valve late diastolic velocity (TVA vel m/s) and (E/e’ ratio) obtained by (TDI), its abnormalities threshold is detected in patients group than controls, with significant increase right ventricular systolic pulmonary pressure in patients compared to the controls.
