This paper presents the results obtained and the discussions made from a series of thermal experiments involving Nickel alloy (AsTM A 494 M) reinforced with fused siO2, and size of the particles dispersed varies from 80 - 120 μm and amount of addition varies from 3 to 12 wt.% in steps of 3 wt.%. The resulting chilled MMCs are solidified under the influence of copper chill of 25 mm thickness to study the effect of chilling on thermal behaviour. Microstructural studies indicated that the reinforcement distribution is uniform with very good bonding due to chilling effect. Thermal properties were found to decrease significantly with increase in siO2 content in chilled MMCs. It is concluded from the research that reinforcement content and the temperature has an effect on coefficient of thermal expansion and thermal conductivity of the chilled composite developed. Finite element analysis of the exhaust valve of the IC indicates that chilled Ni alloy composite developed in the present research can be used as alternate material for the existing valve material (Ni-Cr alloy steel). All the tests conducted in this research are in conformance with AsTM standards.

In controlled solidification, one of the important factors that affects heat transfer from the solidifying casting is the resistance offered at the casting/chill interface. In the present investigation, heat transfer analysis during solidification of Al-12%si (LM 13) alloy is carried out by collecting temperature history of the solidifying casting. The temperature distribution during solidification in the present investigation is obtained using ANsYs multiphysics software and further for comparison. The temperature profiles are also obtained by FE (Finite Element) modelling using the same software. By using a temperature data logger and lab view based software, the temperature data is acquired and processed at every second. The cooling curves obtained are analysed to know the effect of chilling on solidification behaviour of Al-12%si alloy castings. Finally, it is concluded from the above research that the cooling curves and temperature distribution obtained by FE analysis do not so closely converge with the experimental data due to modelling limitations.

Objective: To study the occurrence and serotype diversity of salmonella isolates in different species of poultry(chicken, emu and duck) and determine their resistance pattern against various antibiotics of different ***: About 507 samples comprising 202 caecal contents and 305 fecal samples from chicken, emu and duck were processed for isolation of salmonella enterica. salmonellae were isolated and detected by standard protocol of IsO 6579 Amendment 1: Annex D. Genetic confirmation was also made by using 16 s r RNA genus specific PCR. serotype specific PCR was also done to detect the most common serovars viz. salmonella Enteritidis, salmonella Typhimurium and salmonella Gallinarum. All obtained isolates were subjected to a set of 25 antibiotics to study their antibiogram by using Baeur-Kirby disk diffusion ***: Out of 507 samples processed, 32 isolates of salmonella enterica(18 from caecal contents and 14 from faecal samples) were obtained, of which 24 belonged to 6 different serovars, 6 were untypeable and 2 were rough strains. salmonella Enteritidis was the most predominant serotype(9), followed by salmonella Typhimurium(5), salmonella Virchow(4), salmonella Gallinarum(3), salmonella Reading(2) and salmonella Altona(1). Antibiotic resistance pattern was maximum(100%) to oxacillin, penicillin and clindamycin, followed by ampicillin(68.75%), tetracycline(65.62%), nalidixic acid(56.25%) and colistin(46.87%). High sensitivity of isolates was recorded for chloramphenicol(96.87%) followed by meropenem(84.37%). Conclusions: Occurrence of high proportion of serovars in our study which can cause serious gastroenteritis in humans is a matter of concern. salmonella Altona has been detected for the first time in India from poultry. This serotype is known to cause serious outbreaks of gastroenteritis in humans. This paper presents the results obtained, deductions made from solidification behaviour and a series of micro structural studies such as pearlite content, eu-tectic cell count and grain size of hypoeutectic gray cast iron which was sand cast (CO2 moulding) using metallic, nonmetallic, water cooled and subzero (cryogenic) end chills. Hypo-eutectic cast irons containing C 3.42, si 2.4 and Ni 1.5 with impurity contents (s, P, Mn etc.) were solidified unidirectionally in an American Foundrymen society (AFs) standard mould, the end of which was provided with different end chills to study the effect of chilling during solidifi-cation. The melts were inoculated with 0.3% Fe-si to promote graphitization. It was observed that the transition from one structure to another is more gradual than normally obtained in the structure of cast irons solidified mul-ti-directionally in a sand mould at room temperature. Austenite dendrite interactions were shown to be a major factor in determining the microstructure, in which the higher dendrite reaction leads to changes in DAs, ECC and Gs. It is observed that, the number of eutectic cells is an index of graphite nucleation and the effect of these on structure, since the eutectic cells are developed on the graphite nuclei during solidification.

Abstract In recent years, our research group has developed and studied new rare-earth doped materials for the promising technology of solid-state laser cooling, which is based on anti-stokes fluorescence. To the best of our knowledge, our group is the only one in Canada leading the research into the properties of nanoparticles, glasses and glass-ceramics for optical refrigeration appli- cations. In the present work, optical properties of 50GeO2- 30PbF2-18PbO-2YbF3 glass-ceramics for laser cooling are presented and discussed as a function of crystallization temperature. spectroscopic results show that samples have near infrared photoluminescence emission due to the 2F5/2 - 2F7/2 Yb3＋ transition, centered at -1016 nm with an excitation wavelength of 920 nm or 1011 nm, and the highest photoluminescence emission efficiency occurs for heat-treatment for 5 h at 350℃. The internal photolumi- nescence quantum yield varies between 99% and 80%, depending on the temperature of heat-treatment, being the most efficient under 1011 nm excitation. The 2F5/2 lifetime increases from 1.472 to 1.970 ms for heat treatments at 330℃ to 350℃, respectively, due to energy trapping and the low phonon energy of the nanocrystals. The sample temperature dependence was measured with a fiber Bragg grating sensor, as a function of input pump laser wavelength and processing temperature. These measure- ments show that the heating process approaches near zero for an excitation wavelength between 1020 and 1030 nm, which is an indication that phonons are removed effectivelly from the glass-ceramic materials, and they can be used for optical laser cooling applications. On theother hand, the temperature increase as a function of input laser power into samples remains constant between 920 and 980 nm wavelength excitation, a temperature variation of 36 K/W （temperature of 58℃/W） was attained under excitation at 950 nm, showing a possible use for biomedical applications to be explored.

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Thermal Gradient of a solid Rectangular Fin with Embossing’s for Aerospace Applications

Fins are the extended surfaces through which heat transfer takes place by conduction and convection to keep the base surface cool. Fins of various configurations are presently used ranging from automobile engines to cooling of chip in a computer. Fins used presently are solid with different shapes but in the present research such solid fins are compared with solid fins having maximum of 10 numbers of embossing’s that further increases the surface area for maximum heat transfer. Importance in this research is given to variation of temperature along the length of the fins which in turn gives rate of heat transfer. Thus this research is under taken to increase the efficiency of fins (by extracting heat from the base surface) which is highly demanded today for air cooled engines, compressors, refrigerators etc. In the present research, sOLID70 element and sURF152 elements are used for FE analysis. Methodology involves 3D rectangular fin modelling and meshing, creation of surf elements for the modeling, applying the boundary conditions and source temperature, applying the material property (aluminum) to obtain the steady state thermal contours. FEA results are finally compared with analytic and experimental values for validity. In the present research, a solid rectangular aluminum fin and the same rectangular fin with 2, 4, 8 and 10 embossing’s were compared through finite element analysis for its temperature distribution along the length. FEA analysis of the present research showed that fins having embossing’s were more efficient compared to that a simple solid fin. Hence it is concluded from the present research that embossing’s at preferred locations further increases the rate of heat transfer. From the present analysis it is concluded that the mathematical and FEA for a solid rectangular fin without embossing’s are converging within ±1.2°C and rectangular fin with 10 embossing’s is converging within ±1.4°C and hence the validity.

Angiosarcoma of Maxillary sinus: A Case Report

Purpose: To describe a rare malignancy involving the sinonasal cavities. To discuss the clinical, diagnostic, and treatment modalities. study Design: A case report including histopathological, radiological analysis and review of literature. Method: A case report is described from a tertiary care centre. Histopathological and radiological details are reviewed. Results: This case report presents a 29 year old male with 3 days history of bleeding from the left nostril, blood stained saliva with post nasal discharge and head ache. Biopsy demonstrated poorly differentiated Angiosarcoma. On immune stains the tumor cells showed diffuse strong cytoplasmic membrane positivity with CD 31 and few cells are positive for CD34. FLI-1 is also positive. Conclusion: Angiosarcoma is a rare malignancy involving the sinonasal cavities. Multidisciplinary approach is essential to obtain clear diagnoses and appropriate treatment plans.
