design of crown pillar thickness using finite element method and multivariate regression analysis

Minerals are now being extracted from deep mines due to drying up of resource in shallow ground. The need for suitable supports and ground control mechanisms for safe mining necessitates proper pillar design with filling technology. In addition, high horizontal stress may cause collapse of hanging wall and footwall rocks, hence designing of suitable crown pillars is absolutely necessary for imposing overall safety of the stopes. This paper provides a methodology for the evaluation of the required thickness of crown pillars for safe operation at depth ranging from 600 m to 1000 m. Analyses are conducted with the results of 108 non-linear numerical models considering drucker-Prager material model in plane strain condition. Material properties of ore body rock and thickness of crown pillars are varied and safety factors of pillars estimated. Then, a generalized statistical relationship between the safety factors of crown pillars with the various input parameters is developed. The developed multivariate regression model is utilized for generating design/stability charts of pillars for different geo-mining *** design charts can be used for the design of crown pillar thickness with the depth of the working,taking into account the changes of the rock mass conditions in underground metal mine.

Matching for Rhesus(Rh)blood group is not part of organ allocation *** principle concern expressed in the literature is that Rh-negative recipients might become sensitized and produce anti-d antibody which would have consequences for them if transfusion with Rh-positive blood or a pregnancy were to occur *** Rh allosensitization is thought to occur in over 80%of Rh-negative recipients of Rh-positive blood,Starzl reported that it is less much less common in organ(liver,heart,lung)recipients even if they received Rh-positive blood during the operation(1).A more recent review of pediatric liver transplantation confirms the very low rate of allosensitization of Rh recipients of grafts from Rh-positive donors(2).In theory,there should be no risk of rejection if the combination is reversed—Rh-negative donor to a Rh-positive ***,it does not appear to be necessary to consider Rh status when allocating organs for transplantation.

Risk of colon cancer in hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer patients as predicted by fuzzy modeling:Influence of smoking

AIM： To investigate whether a fuzzy logic model could predict colorectal cancer （CRC） risk engendered by smoking in hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer （HNPCC） patients. METHOdS： Three hundred and forty HNPCC mismatch repair （MMR） mutation carriers from the Creighton University Hereditary Cancer Institute Registry were selected for modeling. Age-dependent curves were generated to elucidate the joint effects between gene mutation （hMLH1 or hMSH2）, gender, and smoking status on the probability of developing CRC. RESULTS： Smoking significantly increased CRC risk in male hMSH2 mutation carriers （P 〈 0.05）. hMLH1 mutations augmented CRC risk relative to hMSH2 mutation carriers for males （P 〈 0.05）. Males had a significantly higher risk of CRC than females for hMLH1 non smokers （P 〈 0.05）, hMLH1 smokers （P 〈 0.1） and hMSH2 smokers （P 〈 0.1）. Smoking promoted CRC in a dose-dependent manner in hMSH2 in males （P 〈 0.05）. Females with hMSH2 mutations and both sexes with the hMLH1 groups only demonstrated a smoking effect after an extensive smoking history （P 〈 0.05）. CONCLUSION： CRC promotion by smoking in HNPCC patients is dependent on gene mutation, gender and age. These data demonstrate that fuzzy modeling may enable formulation of clinical risk scores, thereby allowing individualization of CRC prevention strategies.

Unusual case of insitu(intracystic) papillary carcinoma of breast

The term "intracystic papillary ductal carcinoma in situ ", has recently changed and is now more appropriately referred to as "intracystic papillary carcinoma'' constituting only 0.5% to 1% of all breast cancers. Herein, we discuss an unusual case of intracystic insitu papillary carcinoma of breast in a postmenopausal woman, the diagnosis of which was made on histopathology and confirmed by immunohistochemistry. Patient responded well to postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy without any recurrence, thereby preventing further morbidity and mortality related to invasion or tumor progression. So careful histopathological evaluation is the mainstay to arrive at the correct diagnosis to avoid untoward complications related to under diagnosis and /over diagnosis.

Effect of underlap and gate length on device performance of an AlInN/GaN underlap MOSFET

We investigate the performance of an 18 nm gate length AIInN/GaN heterostructure underlap double gate MOSFET, using 2d Sentaurus TCAd simulation. The device uses lattice-matched wideband Al0.83In0.17N and narrowband GaN layers, along with high-k Al2O3 as the gate dielectric. The device has an ultrathin body and is designed according to the ITRS specifications. The simulation is done using the hydrodynamic model and interface traps are also considered. due to the large two-dimensional electron gas （2dEG） density and high velocity, the maximal drain current density achieved is very high. Extensive device simulation of the major device performance metrics such as drain induced barrier lowering （dIBL）, subthreshold slope （SS）, delay, threshold voltage （Vt）, Ion/Ioff ratio and energy delay product have been done for a wide range of gate and underlap lengths. Encouraging results for delay, Ion, dIBL and energy delay product are obtained. The results indicate that there is a need to optimize theIoff and SS values for specific logic design. The proposed AlInN/GaN heterostructure underlap dG MOSFET shows excellent promise as one of the candidates to substitute currently used MOSFETs for future high speed applications.

Speed–flow functions have been developed by several transportation experts to predict accurately the speed of urban road *** Speed-Flow Curve,BPR Curve,MTC Speed-Flow Curve,Akçelik Speed-Flow Curve are some extraordinary efforts to define the shape of speedflow ***,the complexity of driver’s behaviour,interactions among different type of vehicles,lateral clearance,co-relation of driver’s psychology with vehicular characteristics and interdependence of various variables of traffic has led to continuous development and refinement of speed-flow *** problem gets more difficult in the case of urban roads with heterogeneous traffic,oversaturated flow and signalized network(which includes some unsignalized intersections as well).This paper presents analysis for various measures of effectiveness(MOE)for urban roads with interrupted flow comprising heterogeneous *** has been developed for heterogeneous traffic under constraints of roadway geometry,vehicle characteristics,driving behaviour and traffic *** model developed in this paper predicts speed,delay,average queue and maximum queue estimates for urban roads and quantifies congestion for oversaturated *** investigation details the oversaturated portion of flow in particular.

An existence result on Ky Fan type best approximation is proved. For this pur- pose, a class of factorizable multifunctions and the other one being a demicontinuous, rela- tive almost quasi-convex, onto function on an approximately weakly compact, convex sub- set of Hausdorff locally convex topological vector space are used. As consequence, this result extends the best approximation results of Basha and Veeramani[8] and many others.

Monitoring localized corrosion of Inconel 82 weld overlay on 304L SS weld by electrochemical noise

The manuscript presents the results from the electrochemical noise (EN) monitoring of Inconel 82 weld overlay on Type 304L stainless steel (SS) weld in 0.01M FeCl3. The microstructure of the weld overlay obtained from optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed an austenite structure, containing equiaxed dendrites and secondary phases at the interdendritic region. Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EdS) attached to SEM revealed the secondary phases to be Nb rich Laves phase. The electrochemical potential noise was monitored using a three identical electrode configuration. The acquired signals were detrended, and wavelet analysis was employed to encode useful information from the noise transients. Visual examination of the potential noise-time record contained distinct high amplitude transients typical of localized corrosion attack. The energy distribution plots (EdP) of the potential noise derived from wavelet analysis depicted maximum relative energy on d6-d8 crystals, which represent large time scale events such as those occurring from localized attacks. Also, repassivation events too could be divulged from the potential EdP. The micrographs of the post electrochemical noise experimented specimens revealed the occurrence of localized attacks along the interdendritic region and none inside the dendritic cores. The presence of secondary phases along the interdendritic regions was found to be detrimental in chloride medium, imparting inferior localized corrosion resistance to the weld overlay.

Comparative clinical trial of S-pantoprazole versus racemic pantoprazole in the treatment of gastro-esophageal reflux disease

AIM: To compare the effi cacy and tolerability of S-pan- toprazole (20 mg once a day) versus racemic Panto- prazole (40 mg once a day) in the treatment of gastro- esophageal reflux disease (GERd). METHOdS: This multi-centre, randomized, double-blind clinical trial consisted of 369 patients of either sex suf- fering from GERd. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either one tablet (20 mg) of S-pantoprazole once a day (test group) or 40 mg racemic pantoprazole once a day (reference group) for 28 d. Patients were evaluated for reduction in baseline on d 0, GERd symptom score on d 14 and 28, occurrence of any adverse effect during the course of therapy. Gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy was performed in 54 patients enrolled at one of the study centers at baseline and on d 28. RESULTS: Signifi cant reduction in the scores (mean and median) for heart burn (P d regurgitation (P d dysphagia (P d in both groups on d 14 with further reduction on continuing the therapy till 28 d. There was a statistically signifi cant difference in the proportion of patients showing improvement in acid regurgitation and bloating on d 14 and 28 (P = 0.004 for acid regurgitation; P = 0.03 for bloating) and heart burn on d 28 (P = 0.01) between the two groups, with a higher proportion in the test group than in the refer- ence group. Absolute risk reductions for heartburn/acid regurgitation/bloating were approximately 15% on d 14 and 10% on d 28. The relative risk reductions were 26%-33% on d 14 and 15% on d 28. GI endoscopy showed no signifi cant difference in healing of esophagitis (P = 1) and gastric erosions (P = 0.27) between the two groups.
