Species and endosymbiont diversity of Bemisia tabaci （Homoptera： Aleyrodidae） on vegetable crops in Senegal

Bemisia tabaci-transmitted geminiviruses are one of the major threats on cassava and vegetable crops in Africa. However, to date, few studies are available on the diversity orB. tabaci and their associated endosymbionts in Africa. More than 28 species have been described in the complex ofB. tabaci cryptic species; among them, 2 are invasive pests worldwide： MED and MEAM1. In order to assess the species diversity orB. tabaci in vegetable crops in Senegal, several samplings in different localities, hosts and seasons were collected and analyzed with nuclear （microsatellite） and mitochondrial （COI） markers. The bacterial endosymbiont community was also studied for each sample. Two species were detected： MED Q1 and MEAM1 B. Patterns of MED Q1 （dominance on most of the samples and sites, highest nuclear and mitochondrial diversity and broader secondary endosymbiont community： Hamiltonella, Cardinium, Wolbachia and Rickettsia）, point toward a predominant resident begomovirus vector group for MED Q 1 on market gardening crops. Furthermore, the lower prevalence of the second species MEAM1 B, its lower nuclear and mitochondrial diversity and a narrower secondary endosymbiont community （Hamiltonella/Rickettsia）, indicate that this genetic group is exotic and results from a recent invasion in this area.

This study explores the origins and current status of the Gallo language at school--a minority language spoken in the eastern part of Brittany--among older speakers （group 1-41 informants） and students of Gallo （group 2-17 informants）. The paper discusses different pedagogical methods, learning materials, and learners＇ status. The most important mission of schools is to increase public awareness about their linguistic environment which helps reassert minority identity through language acquisition and linguistic maintenance. Implementing an educational language curriculum for regional languages constitutes a main step towards the preservation of linguistic minorities. According to the informants interviewed during the fieldwork, both groups express positive reactions towards the presence of Gallo at school （group 1--80%; group 2--92.9%）. However, in follow-up discussions, a certain number of older speakers seem to be more reluctant, because the variety of Gallo taught at school is different from the one which was transmitted to them. In conclusion, bilingual and immersion programs are increasingly successful in Brittany and could lead to a wider recognition of Eastern Brittany＇s language and culture.

Contamination of aquatic systems with pharmaceutical products represents a rising *** Kadicha river in Northern Lebanon is an illustrative example of a small Mediterranean river affected by rapid urbanization and population *** paper reports the first study on occurrence and ecological risk assessments on selected pharmaceuticals and their metabolites within the Kadicha *** this purpose,surface water samples were collected over two sampling campaigns from twelve sites impacted by urban,rural,and mixed land uses(residential and agricultural zones)within the Kadicha river *** the studied pharmaceuticals,six compounds(carbamazepine,diclofenac,acetaminophen,sulfamethoxazole,ofloxacin,and atenolol)were detected with detection frequencies and concentrations that vary according to the sampling *** was the most frequently detected compound and showed the highest concentrations(not detected-290 ng/L).The presence of pharmaceuticals carbamazepine,ofloxacin(not detected-190 ng/L),and atenolol(not detected-93 ng/L)was related to raw wastewater inputs in the water body,while the presence of sulfamethoxazole(not detected-23 ng/L)was associated with its usage in specific sites with livestock ***,the presence of acetaminophen(not detected-242 ng/L)and diclofenac(not detected-1055 ng/L)can be affected by their degradation properties in river *** highest concentrations were observed in the urbanized downstream area,while the lowest concentrations were within the rural upstream ***,the urbanized downstream area presents the highest potential risks for aquatic ***,ofloxacin may pose high ecotoxicological risks in this *** levels of contamination with pharmaceuticals do not exceed the concentrations reported in the ***,the levels of carbamazepine,diclofenac,and acetaminophen were more similar to sites receiving raw wastewaters,while the concentration levels of sulfamethoxazo

The potential importance of psychological aspects in relation to risk factors for fractures and preventing unhealth behaviour has rarely been investigated in the field of osteoporosis. This study explores some psychological aspects and health behaviour of people detected to have osteoporosis at the time of a forearm fracture. Moreover, it aims at revealing subgroups within this population with clinical relevance for managing secondary prevention actions. Data collection was based on questionnaires and physical tests. Eighty-five individual were analysed. The results confirm earlier research on a similar population having relatively good self-reported health behaviour. The individuals reported high quality of life, high amount of physical activity and low alcohol intake. A majority reported good osteoporosis knowledge, a high sense of coherence (mean = 74) and high activity-specific balance confidence (mean = 81). Furthermore, hierarchical cluster analysis indicated a typology of two subgroups where 75% matched a health-resilient group while 25% matched a health-vulnerable group. The vulnerable group had a significantly lower sense of coherence SOC (p = 0.02) and activity-specific balance confidence, ABC (p = 0.001). This pattern was confirmed from behavioural aspects but only regarding one traditional risk factor namely the history of fractures. The health-vulnerable group achieved a significantly weaker physical profile, less reported time spent outdoors and lower quality of life. The differences found between the subgroups indicate that this typology, as a complement to models based upon relative risk like FRAX, can be relevant for widening perspectives in future research and clinical practice of fracture prevention in osteoporosis.

Comparison of North American Seismic Screening Methods Applied to School Buildings

An ongoing project at McGill University is aimed at developing an adapted seismic screening method for schools in the province of Qu6bec, Canada. As part of this project the ＂FEMA 154 Rapid Visual Screening of Buildings for Potential Seismic Hazard＂ and the ＂NRC92 Manual for Screening of Buildings for Seismic Investigation＂ were used to assess 102 school buildings located in the city of Montr6al. Results for both methods are in reasonable agreement, with 65% of the buildings requiring a detailed evaluation according to FEMAI54 and 50% according to NRC92. Findings highlighted the particular characteristics of educational facilities： they are low rise buildings with high incidence of structural irregularities. Accounting for them in the screening phase is essential, and is better achieved by NRC92. However, this method is largely based on expert opinion, which makes it difficult to update, while FEMA154 uses a rational methodology for calculating vulnerability scores based on the capacity spectrum approach. The FEMA154 analytical procedure allows updating and adapting the method to its use outside its intended scope.

Sensitivity of the C-N Vibration to Solvation in Dicyanobenzenes: A DFT Study

Using DFT calculations, we have studied the C-N vibration of dicyanobenzenes in different solvents. The effects of solvent polarity and hydrogen bonding were evaluated. The frequency is decreased by 4 cm–1 when the solvent polarity increases. In the current study, the red shift due to the solvent polarity was underestimated by PCM. For hydrogen bonding, the frequency is increased by 10 cm–1 because of the charge transfer from the lone pair of nitrogen in C≡N to water, which slightly increases the bond strength of C-N. The C-N vibration of dicyanobenzenes is calculated to be sensitive to solvation.
