Kraft lignin was liquefied using polyethylene glycol#400(PEG)and glycerol(G)in a weight ratio of 80/20(w/w)and sulphuric acid(SA)as catalyst under atmospheric pressure at 160ºC.The three independent variables:reaction time(60,80 and 100 min),percentage of lignin(15,20 and 25%,w/w),and catalyst concentration(0,3 and 6%,w/w),were varied resulting in 27 experimental runs.The effect of these reaction conditions on the properties of the polyols was evaluated.The statistical analysis showed that only“the percentage of lignin”did not influence the properties of the liquefied products,however,reaction time and catalyst load were important parameters.The resulting liquefied products were characterized by FTIR analysis.

Objective:To evaluate the antioxidant,antibacterial and bacterial cell agglutination activities of the hexane(Hex) and 70%ethanol(70%EtOH) extracts of two species of red seaweeds Pterocladiella capillacea(P.capillacea) and Osmundaria obtusiloba.Methods:In vitro antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH radical scavenging assay,ferric-reducing antioxidant power assay,ferrous ion chelating assay,β-carotene bleaching assay and total phenolic content quantification.Antimicrobial activity was tested using the method of disc diffusion on Mueller-Hinton medium.The ability of algal extracts to agglutinate bacterial cells was also tested.Results:The 70%EtOH extract of the two algae showed the highest values of total phenolic content compared to the Hex extract.The results of DPPH for both extracts(Hex,70%EtOH) of Osmundaria obtusiloba(43.46%and 99.47%) were higher than those of P.capillacea(33.04%and 40.81%) at a concentration of 1 000 μg/mL.As for the ferrous ion chelating,there was an opposite behavior,extracts of P.capillacea had a higher activity.The extracts showed a low ferric-reducing antioxidant power,with optical density ranging from0.054 to 0.180.Antioxidant activities of all extracts evaluated for β-carotene bleaching were above 40%.There was no antibacterial activity against bacterial strains tested.However,the extracts of both species were able to agglutinate bacterial Gram positive cells of Staphylococcus aureus and Gram negative cells of Escherichia coli,multidrug-resistant Salmonella and Vibrio harveyi.Conclusions This is the first report of the interaction between these algal extracts,rich in natural compounds with antioxidant potential,and Gram positive and Gram negative bacterial cells.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of orthodontic brackets bonded to tooth enamel with different polymer composites after simulated clinical aging, and analyze the enamel/ bond system fracture interface. 80 human premolars, were randomly divided into five groups (n = 16). G1: CO (Concise Ortodontica—3M ESPE), G2: SB (SuperBond—Ortho Source), G3: FMO (Fill Magic Ortodontico—Vigodent), G4: TXT (Transbond XT—3M ESPE) and G5: TP (Transbond Plus Self Etching Primer + Transbond Plus Color Change—3M ESPE). In all groups, the metal orthodontic bracket was bonded to the tooth enamel surface. The specimens were submitted to 3000 thermal cycling baths for 30 s, at temperatures of 5°C, 37°C and 55°C (±1°C). Afterwards they were subjected to shear testing and the results were analyzed by the Student’s-t test (p G5 > G2 > G3. In all groups the majority of the fractures at the interface of the specimens were cohesive, except in G3, which presented the largest number of adhesive fractures. After clinical aging, the chemically activated material (CO) showed higher bond strength than the light activated types (FMO, TXT and TP). The self-etching adhesive system (TP) showed similar bond strength to that of conventional systems (FMO and TXT).

Lectin Cramoll-1,4, obtained from Cratylia mollis seeds (beans camaratu) was structurally characterized, biologically and pharmacologically, but its use as a biopharmaceutical is not well documented. The objective of this study is to propose a biopharmaceutical formulation lectin Cramoll-1,4, test their hemagglutinating properties in vitro as well as the use of gamma radiation as a continuous process of decontamination formulation. It was made of the extraction and purification Cramoll-1,4, was developed a gel formulation using Carbopol? as a vehicle, at concentrations of 50, 100, 200, 300 and 600 μg was irradiated with 60Co gamma rays in a dose of 7.549 kGy·h–1. The proposed formulation at a concentration of 300 μg produced an increase in the hemagglutinating units Cramoll-1,4 due to the synergistic effect caused by gamma radiation. Considering the diverse use of lectins, specific molecular and structural factors, as well as changes resulting from its formulation, concentration, irradiation and route of administration is of utmost importance to continue the studies in vitro, for subsequent application in vivo to characterize the physiological and molecular processes involved in the response and cellular effects.

目的对肾脏病维持动静脉瘘患者的自我护理行为研究进行整合性综述。方法采用整合性综述方法,以“慢性肾功能不全”“动静脉瘘管”,和“自我护理知识”等检索词在Medline/PubMed,Scopus,CINAHL,LILACS,BDENF和SciELO数据库中进行检索。纳入文献包括在过去5年中以葡萄牙语英语和西班牙语发表的相关论文,排除无研究设计或未遵循研究方法学的论文。采用IRAMUTEQ软件分析数据。结果最终15篇论文纳入研究。文本片段分析产生了7组自我护理行为词汇,归纳为3个类别:维持动静脉瘘的自我护理措施;预防和监测动静脉瘘并发症的自我护理措施;针对动静脉瘘术前准备的自我护理措施。结论研究结果有助于明确动静脉瘘功能维持的重要自我护理措施,可为制订针对肾脏患者的自我护理行为和相关资助实施方案提供参考。仍有必要开展更多可提供高水平证据的研究,确定动静脉瘘自我护理行为及实施过程中涉及的因素。

AIM: To evaluate the nutritional status and its association with proinflammatory cytokines in children with chronic liver disease.METHODS: We performed a cross-sectional study with 43 children and adolescents, aged 0 to 17 years, diagnosed with chronic liver disease. All patients regularly attended the Pediatric Hepatology Unit and were under nutritional follow up. The exclusion criteria were fever from any etiology at the time of enrollment, inborn errors of the metabolism and any chronic illness. The severity of liver disease was assessed by Child-Pugh, Model for End-stage Liver Disease(MELD) and Pediatric End Stage Liver Disease(PELD) scores. Anthropometric parameters were height/age, body mass index/age and triceps skinfold/age according to World Health Organization standards. The cutoff points for nutritional status were risk of malnutrition(Z-score <-1.00) and malnutrition(Z-score <-2.00). Interleukin-1β(IL-1β), IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α levels were assessed by commercial ELISA kits. For multivariate analysis, linear regression was applied to assess the association between cytokine levels, disease severity and nutritional status. RESULTS: The median(25th-75 th centile) age of the study population was 60(17-116)-mo-old, and 53.5% were female. Biliary atresia was the main cause of chronic liver disease(72%). With respect to Child-Pugh score, cirrhotic patients were distributed as follows: 57.1% Child-Pugh A, a mild presentation of the disease, 34.3% Child-Pugh B, a moderate stage of cirrhosis and 8.6% Child-Pugh C, were considered severe cases. PELD and MELD scores were only above the cutoff point in 5 cases. IL-6 values were increased in patients at nutritional risk(34.9%) compared with those who were well-nourished [7.12(0.58-34.23) pg/m L vs 1.63(0.53-3.43) pg/m L; P = 0.02], correlating inversely with triceps skinfold-for-age z-score(rs =-0.61; P < 0.001). Objective: To evaluate the association of socio-demographic and clinical characteristics, and risk factors with occurrence of pressure ulcers in institutionalized elderly people. Method: This cross-sectional, analytical study, in quantitative approach, performed from the database analysis linked to the project “Pressure Ulcer in institutionalized elderly people: Association of incidence with the risk factors to functional and nutritional assessment” developed in six long-stay institutions for the elderly people in João Pessoa. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0. Associations were made through chi square test and Odds Ratio. Results: The clinical conditions of significant associations with the occurrence of pressure ulcers were the variables neurological disorders (p = 0.011) and visual impairment (p = 0.005). As for risk factors, the most important was fecal incontinence (p Conclusion: The analysis of the associations pointed out problems that require intervention in order to prevent health implications of the elderly people and to minimize the risk and occurrence of this injury.

本文测定了巴西亚马孙阿马帕州两个相似湖泊中的沉积物、食鱼鱼以及湖区人发中的总汞量。这两个湖分别为:受采金矿区排放汞影响的Duas Boeas湖(DBL)和其北部15km处原始的Praeudba湖(PL)。在DBL沉积物中,纵剖面汞的含量范围为汞污染的发展进程提供了清晰的证据,并且发现DBL区鱼体和人发中汞的含量远远高于PL区。沉积物中的^(203)Hg甲基化速率及鱼体中甲基汞的比率,都显示出汞在两湖中具有较高的生物有效性。当地成年人每天平均食鱼量约为200g,而在DBL湖,95%的鱼样(样品数N=40)超过15ng Hg/g这一安全限。Hg在人发中平均含量为28μg/g(N=15),已在一个可引发神经中毒效应的水平上。然而,在未受污染的PL湖,汞含量也较高,在这里67%～100%(N=34)鱼类的汞含量超过安全限,87%的人发样品(N=15)高于10ng Ha/g。建议这两个区域的儿童和孕妇应吃非食鱼性的鱼类和/或小鱼类,对阿马帕沿海平原的其他区域也应开展汞含量水平的调查。
