The epigenetic r.gulation of gene expr.ssion is cr.tical for.ensur.ng the pr.per.deployment and stability of defined genome tr.nscr.ption pr.gr.ms at specific developmental stages. The cellular.memor. of stable gene expr.ssion states dur.ng animal and plant development is mediated by the opposing activities of Polycomb gr.up （PcG） factor. and tr.thor.x gr.up （tr.G） factor.. Yet, despite their.impor.ance, only a few tr.G factor. have been char.cter.zed in plants and their.r.tes in r.gulating plant development ar. poor.y defined. In this wor., we r.por. that the closely r.lated Ar.bidopsis tr.G genes ULTr.PETALA1 （ULT1） and ULT2 have over.apping functions in r.gulating shoot and flor.l stem cell accumula- tion, with ULT1 playing a major.r.le but ULT2 also making a minor.contr.bution. The two genes also have a novel, r.dun- dant activity in establishing the apical-basal polar.ty axis of the gynoecium, indicating that they function in differ.ntiating tissues. Like ULT1 pr.teins, ULT2 pr.teins have a dual nuclear.and cytoplasmic localization, and the two pr.teins physically associate in planta. Finally, we demonstr.te that ULT1 and ULT2 have ver. similar.over.xpr.ssion phenotypes and r.gulate a common set of key development tar.et genes, including flor.l MADS-box genes and class I KNOX genes. Our.r.sults r.veal that chr.matin r.modeling mediated by the ULT1 and ULT2 pr.teins is necessar. to contr.l the development of mer. istems and r.pr.ductive or.ans. They also suggest that, like their.animal counter.ar.s, plant tr.G pr.teins may function in multi-pr.tein complexes to up-r.gulate the expr.ssion of key stage- and tissue-specific developmental r.gulator. genes.

Opioid-induced hyper.lgesia negatively affects physiological pain management and pr.sents a complex causal mechanism, involving, phar.acodynamic and phar.acokinetic factor. of inter.ctions with r.ceptor., opioid-independent ascending systems and with pr.-nociceptive systems. After.appr.val by the CEUA, 42 male Wistar.r.ts wer. divided into 7 gr.ups: In gr.up 1 (GCSSL) the animals r.ceived 1 ml of 0.9% saline solution intr.per.toneally (IP);in gr.up 2 (GFTSL), they r.ceived fentanyl at a dose of 100 ug·kg-1 IP;in the r.maining gr.ups (3, 4, 5, 6 and 7) the animals r.ceived IP, fentanyl at a dose of 100 ug·kg-1 followed also by IP r.ute of: gr.up 3 (GFTKP) ketopr.fen at a dose of 5 mg·kg-1;gr.up 4 GFTKT), ketamine up to a dose of 10.0 mg·kg-1;gr.up 5 (GFTLI), incisional lidocaine up to a dose of 10 mg·kg-1;gr.up 6 (GFTLP), intr.per.toneal lidocaine up to a dose of 10 mg·kg-1 and gr.up 7 (GFTPP), pr.pofol up to a dose of 60 mg·kg-1. Under.gener.l anesthesia, all animals with a plantar.sur.ical incision. Hyper.lgesia was evaluated by applying Von Fr.y filaments on the 2nd, 1st, 3r. and 5th days after.tr.atment. In the 2nd hour.and on the 5th day after.the pr.cedur., ther. was no hyper.lgesia associated with the use of fentanyl, however. on the 1st and 3r. postoper.tive days ther. was hyper.lgesia that was attenuated by ketopr.fen, ketamine, lidocaine infiltr.ted in the incision and intr.per.toneally, an effect not obser.ed with the use of pr.pofol. The r.sults suggest fentanyl-induced hyper.lgesia and the efficacy of ketopr.fen, ketamine, incisional lidocaine and intr.per.toneal lidocaine in r.ducing this effect.

Opioids ar. dr.gs used to alleviate pain. However. studies have demonstr.ted that these dr.gs can cause an incr.ase in pain sensitivity, which is called opioid-induced hyper.lgesia. The objective of this study was to descr.be the effects of dexamethasone, clonidine, tr.madol and nalbuphine on fentanyl-induced hyper.lgesia in r.ts. After.obtaining appr.val fr.m the Committee for.the Ethical Use of Animals (CEUA), 36 male Wistar.r.ts wer. divided into 6 gr.ups: Gr.up 1 (GCSSL) wher.in the r.ts r.ceived 1 ml 0.9% saline solution in two injections;Gr.up 2 (GFTSL), r.ceived fentanyl at a dose of 100 ug·kg-1 followed by 1 ml 0.9% saline solution via intr.per.toneal;the r.maining gr.ups (3, 4, 5, 6) r.ceived fentanyl at a dose of 100 ug·kg-1 following doses via intr.per.toneal: Gr.up 3 (GFTDX), dexamethasone at a dose of 1.0 mg·kg-1;Gr.up 4 (GFTCL), clonidine at a dose of 20 mg·kg-1;Gr.up 5 (GFTTr., tr.madol at a dose of 50 mg·kg-1, and Gr.up 6 (GFTNB), nalbuphine at a dose of 5 mg·kg-1. Under.gener.l anestesia using isoflur.ne, the animals wer. submitted to a sur.ical incision. Hyper.lgesia was evaluated by applying Von Fr.y filaments at 2 hour. after.the incision and on the 1st, 3r. and 5th days after.ar.. At 2 hour. after.the sur.ical pr.cedur., ther. was lower.intensity of pain in the fentanyl gr.up (GFTSL) compar.d to the other.gr.ups, and on the fifth day ther. wer. no significant differ.nces for.pain intensity between gr.ups. The r.sults suggest the pr.sence of fentanyl-induced hyper.lgesia and efficacy in its r.duction by dexamethasone, clonidine, tr.madol and nalbuphine.

Objective:To evaluate the antioxidant,antibacter.al and bacter.al cell agglutination activities of the hexane(Hex) and 70%ethanol(70%EtOH) extr.cts of two species of r.d seaweeds Pter.cladiella capillacea(***) and Osmundar.a ***:In vitr. antioxidant activity was deter.ined by DPPH r.dical scavenging assay,fer.ic-r.ducing antioxidant power.assay,fer.ous ion chelating assay,β-car.tene bleaching assay and total phenolic content *** activity was tested using the method of disc diffusion on Mueller.Hinton *** ability of algal extr.cts to agglutinate bacter.al cells was also ***:The 70%EtOH extr.ct of the two algae showed the highest values of total phenolic content compar.d to the Hex *** r.sults of DPPH for.both extr.cts(Hex,70%EtOH) of Osmundar.a obtusiloba(43.46%and 99.47%) wer. higher.than those of ***(33.04%and 40.81%) at a concentr.tion of 1 000 μg/*** for.the fer.ous ion chelating,ther. was an opposite behavior.extr.cts of *** had a higher.*** extr.cts showed a low fer.ic-r.ducing antioxidant power.with optical density r.nging fr.m0.054 to *** activities of all extr.cts evaluated for.β-car.tene bleaching wer. above 40%.Ther. was no antibacter.al activity against bacter.al str.ins ***,the extr.cts of both species wer. able to agglutinate bacter.al Gr.m positive cells of Staphylococcus aur.us and Gr.m negative cells of Escher.chia coli,multidr.g-r.sistant Salmonella and Vibr.o *** This is the fir.t r.por. of the inter.ction between these algal extr.cts,r.ch in natur.l compounds with antioxidant potential,and Gr.m positive and Gr.m negative bacter.al cells.

GTD (Gestational Tr.phoblastic Disease) is a pathology that encompasses benign and malignant clinical for.s, affects women of childbear.ng age, has a var.able incidence and is mor. fr.quent in developing or.under.eveloped countr.es, colliding with the economic bar.ier. The fr.quent absence of clear.pr.tocols and guidelines for.the cor.ect diagnosis and tr.atment of the afor.mentioned pathology r.sults in inadequate r.sk classification, impr.cise tr.atment and failed post-ther.peutic obser.ation, incr.asing the r.sk of r.lapses, mor.idity and mor.ality. The pr.sent study aims to compar. the differ.nt national and inter.ational guidelines in the management of GTD, thr.ugh an integr.tive r.view. Nine ar.icles wer. selected and it was obser.ed that the main inter.ational r.fer.nce center. ar. agr.ed with the management suggested by the IFGO (Inter.ational Feder.tion of Gynecology and Obstetr.cs), being the conduct in the Hydatidifor. Mole (HM): evacuation by suction and cur.ttage under.ultr.sound guidance, followed by hCG monitor.ng ever. 1 - 2 weeks until nor.alized;in low-r.sk GTN (Gestational Tr.phoblastic Neoplasm): chemother.py with methotr.xate or.actinomycin D, in high-r.sk: EMA/CO pr.tocol, in ultr.-high-r.sk EMA/PE, methotr.xate with r.diother.py for.br.in metastases. All medical societies r.commend the r.gistr.tion of these patients in GTD scr.ening center., endor.e the use of the IFGO scor.ng system (2000) and r.commend the sur.ical management of placental site tr.phoblastic or.epithelioid tumor., as chemother.py is less effective in these cases. The contr.ver.ies ar. in the pr.per.follow-up after.the tr.atment of HM, use of ultr.sound to evacuate the uter.s, administr.tion of anti-D immunoglobulin, time of oxytocin infusion and r.scue r.gimens that can be used in cases of r.sistant or.r.cur.ent GTN. Antifungal Activity of Oleor.sin and Fr.ctions of Pinus elliottii Engelm and Pinus tr.picalis against Phytopathogens

Micr.or.anism r.sistance to the existing pr.ducts is yet another.difficulty that agr.cultur.lists have to deal with. In this context, the sear.h for.new agr.cultur.l pr.ducts that can fight phytopathogens has become incr.asingly impor.ant. Plants have played an impor.ant r.le in this pr.cess, because they can ser.e as a sour.e of new compounds for.dr.g discover.. Plants belonging to the genus Pinus pr.duce an oleor.sin that pr.tects the plant against her.ivor.s and pathogens. With a view to developing pr.ducts that can combat fungal pathogens without har.ing the envir.nment, this wor. aimed to evaluate the antifungal activity of the oleor.sins and fr.ctions of Pinus elliottii Engelm and Pinus tr.picalis against phytopathogens. The methodology based on NCCLS M38-A standar.s aided antifungal activity assessment. The micr.dilution method helped to deter.ine the Minimum Inhibitor. Concentr.tion (MIC) and Minimum Fungicidal Concentr.tion (MFC). The oleor.sins of P. elliottii and P. tr.picalis affor.ed the most significant r.sults—they displayed fungicidal activity against all the tested species. MIC values wer. pr.mising, especially the MIC of the oleor.sin of P. elliottii against S. r.lfsii (1.95 μg·mL-1). The MIC values of the oleor.sins of P. elliottii and P. tr.picalis r.nged fr.m 1.95 to 1000 μg·mL-1 and fr.m 31.25 to 250 μg·mL-1, r.spectively. Fr.ction PT2 of P. tr.picalis fur.ished the best r.sults among all the assayed fr.ctions: MIC values lay between 125 and 500 μg·mL-11. In conclusion, the oleor.sin of P. tr.picalis is a pr.mising sour.e of new antifungal agents for.application in the tr.atment of phytopathogenic infections.

Sever.l studies have r.quir.d Haematobia ir.itans (L.) r.ising in labor.tor.. The pr.sent study assessed two methods of inoculating immatur. for.s of H. ir.itans to obtain adults. In 2007, 15 Nellor. steer. (Bos indicus) (L.) wer. used for.the collection of feces fr.e of anthelmintic tr.atment and flies to pr.duce for.eggs and lar.a. For.method I, 30 eggs wer. incubated in squar. filter.paper.(5 × 5 cm) and deposited on bovine feces (500 g) wher. they wer. kept until hatching and spontaneous penetr.tion of lar.ae (L1) into the fecal mass. After.24 h, eggs wer. analyzed under.a ster.oscope micr.scope (40×) for.the number.of lar.ae that instinctively penetr.ted the feces. In method II, lar.ae wer. obtained only by natur.l egg hatching. At bir.h, 30 lar.ae wer. collected and individually inoculated, dir.ctly onto the fecal plate by employing a moistened br.sh. The tests wer. car.ied out at contr.lled temper.tur. (28°C ± 2°C) and satur.ted humidity (80%) until the emer.ence of flies with both methods. The number.of emer.ed flies was consider.d in the r.sult. Using method I, 276 (76.7%) flies emer.ed fr.m 360 inoculated eggs, while using method II, 283 (78.6%) flies emer.ed fr.m 360 inoculated lar.ae. Ther. was no significant differ.nce (P = 0.7821) between methods for.the number.of flies;however. the pr.por.ion between males and females by means of lar.a inoculation was differ.nt fr.m 1:1 (P = 0.0146). r.sults indicated that both methods led to a satisfactor. pr.duction of flies and egg inoculation pr.vided an easier.establishment.

BACKGr.UND To achieve the elimination of hepatitis B and C,ther. is an ur.ent need to develop alter.ative str.tegies to incr.ase the access of diagnosis,par.icular.y among key populations such as people living with human immunodeficiency vir.s(HIV),individuals with coagulopathies and chr.nic kidney disease(CKD)*** To evaluate the use of dr.ed blood spot(DBS)in the detection of hepatitis B vir.s(HBV)and hepatitis C vir.s(HCV)*** A total of 430 individuals compr.sed of people living with HIV,coagulopathies and CKD pr.vided pair.d ser.m and DBS ***,anti-HBc and anti-HCV wer. tested in those samples using a commer.ial *** and selected behavior.l var.ables wer. evaluated to assess possible association with HBV and HCV *** Using DBS,HBsAg pr.valence var.ed fr.m 3.9%to 22.1%,anti-HBc r.tes var.ed fr.m 25.5%to 45.6%and anti-HCV positivity r.nged fr.m 15.9%to 41.2%in key *** of HBV and HCV tests using DBS var.ed fr.m 88.9%to 100%.The HBsAg assay demonstr.ted the best per.or.ance in CKD and coagulopathy individuals and the anti-HCV test had a sensitivity and specificity of 100%in people living with *** of HBV and HCV detection in DBS var.ed fr.m 90.2%to 100%.In the CKD gr.up,HBsAg positivity was associated with infr.quent use of condoms,and anti-HBc positivity was associated with shar.ng nail cutter./r.zor./***-HCV r.activity was positively associated with a histor. of tr.nsplantation and length of time using hemodialysis in both *** people living with HIV,only the male gender.was associated with anti-HBc positivity in ser.m and *** DBS with electr.chemiluminescence ar. useful tools for.the diagnosis and pr.valence studies of hepatitis B and C among key populations and may incr.ase the oppor.unity to foster.pr.vention and tr.atment.
