The pistil, the female reproductive organ of plants, is a key player in the success of sexual plant reproduction. Ultimately, the production of fruits and seeds depends on the proper pistil development and function. Therefore, the identification and characterization of pistil expressed genes is essential for a better understanding and manipulation of the plant reproduction process. For studying the function of pistil expressed genes, transgenic and/or mutant plants for the genes of interest are used. The present article provides a review of methods already exploited to analyze sexual reproductive success. We intend to supply useful information and to guide future experiments in the study of genes affecting pistil development and function.

Parkinson's disease is the second most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder ***,it is characterized by severe motor complications caused by progressive degeneration of dopaminergic *** treatment is focused on mitigating the symptoms through the administration of levodopa,rather than on preventing dopaminergic neuronal ***,the use and development of neuroprotective/disease-modifying strategies is an absolute need that can lead to promising gains on translational research of Parkinson's *** instance,N-acetylcysteine,a natural compound with strong antioxidant effects,has been shown to modulate oxidative stress,preventing dopamine-induced cell *** the evidence of neuroprotective and modulatory effects of this drug,as far as we know,it does not induce per se any regenerative ***,it would be of interest to combine the latter with innovative therapies that induce dopaminergic neurons repair or even differentiation,as stem cell-based *** cells secretome has been proposed as a promising therapeutic approach for Parkinson's disease,given its ability to modulate cell viability/preservation of dopaminergic *** approach represents a shift in the paradigm,showing that cell-transplantation free therapies based on the use of stem cells secretome may represent a potential alternative for regenerative medicine of Parkinson's ***,in this review,we address the current understanding of the potential combination of stem cell free-based strategies and neuroprotective/disease-modifying strategies as a new paradigm for the treatment of central nervous system neurodegenerative diseases,like Parkinson's disease.

Urban Park Soil and Vegetation: Effects of Natural and Anthropogenic Factors

Various soil surface components, such as trees, shrubs and biological crusts, and human recreational activities, e.g., barbecues and trampling by visitors, may divide the area of the urban park into smaller fragments/mieroenvironments, differentiated by their microenvironmental conditions, which may differ in soil and vegetation characteristics. The spatial changes in the soil and vegetation characteristics and their causes were investigated in an urban park located south of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Israel. The area of the park is 0.5 km^2, including groves, a lake, lawns, and rest areas. Soil was sampled in nine microenvironments, of which seven were within the park： under Ceratonia siliqua trees （CsU）, under Ficus sycomorus trees （FLU）, rest area between tables under F. sycomorus （FIB）, rest area under tables under F. sycomorus （FIT）, open area with bare soil （OaS）, open area with biological crust cover （OaC）, and open area covered by herbaceous vegetation （OaV）. Two more microenvironments, planar and sloping open areas （CoP and CoS, respectively） in the vicinity of the park, were used as the controls. Electrical conductivity, concentrations of soluble ions （Mg^2＋, Ca^2＋, Na^＋, K^＋ and HCO3）, pH, contents of organic carbon, calcium carbonate and moisture, and grain size distribution were determined. In addition, herbaceous vegetation cover, number and diversity of herbaceous vegetation species were measured. It was found that soil properties and herbaceous vegetation characteristics varied within the park. Soil organic carbon, electrical conductivity, soluble salts, penetration depth, and vegetation characteristics were affected by human activities, mainly in the rest area between the tables. In contrast, the above characteristics were affected by natural factors mainly in the rest of the microenvironments, which were subjected to low levels of anthropogenic intervention. Originally identified as allelochemicals involved in plant-parasite interactions, more recently, Strigolactones （SLs） have been shown to play multiple key roles in the rhizosphere communication between plants and mycorrhizal fungi. Even more recent is the hormonal role ascribed to SLs which broadens the biological impact of these relatively simple molecules. In spite of the crucial and multifaceted biological role of SLs, there are no data on the receptor（s） which bind（s） such active molecules, neither in the producing plants nor in parasitic weeds or AM fungi. Information about the putative receptor of SLs can be gathered by means of structural, molecular, and genetic approaches. Our contribution on this topic is the design and synthesis of fluorescent labeled SL analogs to be used as probes for the detection in vivo of the receptor（s）. Knowledge of the putative receptor structure will boost the research on analogs of the natural substrates as required for agricultural applications.

Injuries in Spanish female soccer players

Background: Epidemiologic research to learn the incidence, type, location, and severity of female soccer injuries and the risk factors for sustaining a sport injury is the first step in developing preventive policies. The aim of this study was to analyze the incidence of injuries in the population of female soccer players in ***: The injuries incurred by 25,397 female soccer players were registered by the medical staff of the Spanish Football Federation during 1 season. A standardized medical questionnaire was used to classify the injury according to type, severity, location, and injury mechanism. A total of 2108 injuries was reported with an incidence of 0.083 injuries per player per season. Most injuries were in the lower limbs(74.0%), mainly affecting knee(30.4%) and ankle joints(17.9%).Results: The proportion of injuries derived from contact with another player was higher during matches(33.7%) than during training(11.4%;p gher incidence of injury was found in adult soccer players(≥18 years) vs. their counterparts younger than 18 years(0.094 vs. 0.072 injuries per player per year, respectively; p ge groups in any other injury variable(e.g., type, mechanism, location, or severity; p > 0.05).Conclusion: Most female soccer injuries were located at the knee and ankle; the injury mechanism determined the playing time lost; and the player's age did not affect injury characteristics.

Dendritic silver and copper crystals were produced via galvanic replacement reactions on zinc and aluminum plates, respectively. The growth orientations of these metals were determined using electron microscopy. The results showed that a fast crystal growth associated with a high concentration of metal cations led to kinetically controlled growth along the axes of the cubic close-packed structures. However, a slow growth rate resulted in thermodynamically controlled growth along the [111] axis. The crystal growth was not found to rely upon the direct deposition of metal cations at crystallographic sites on crystal facets, but instead, hydrated metal cations deposited on the crystal surface to form an amorphous coating layer, followed by the reduction of metal cations and crystallization at the crystal/coating interface. Twin defects and stacking faults were often observed across the whole particle and commonly observed1/3{422} diffraction spots were explained by stacking faults rather than by the possible presence of any superstructures. The present work offers evidences to claim that both the crystal growth rate and Coulomb interaction between negatively charged crystal surface and metal cations play an important role in the formation of metal dendrites in replacement reactions.

The main objective of this paper is to propose a conceptual model about the influence of lean, agile, resilient, and green （LARg） practices on supply chain operational, economic and environmental performance. This model is based on the literature review about the four supply chain management paradigms and also performance measurement systems. This paper contributes to the literature by introducing a new model to improve the leanness, agility, resilience, and greenness of manufacturing supply chains. Among the suggested LARg practices, the ones influencing more the supply chain performance are the just in time and also the supplier relationships. Also the supply chain performance measures with more LARg practices influencing them are the inventory levels and the time, that is, the supply chain＇s operational performance is the most affected by the simultaneous paradigms deployment in the supply chain.
