Measured resul.s of magnetoel.ctric (ME) and converse magnetoel.ctric (CME) effects of TbxDy1-xFe2-y/ Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)(1-x)TixO3/TbxDy1-xFe2-y (TD/PMNT/TD) and PMNT/TD/PMNT l.minated composites are pre- sented. ME effect was determined by measuring l.minate vol.age output under a Hel.hol.z-gener- ated AC fiel. biased by a DC fiel. (0―1 kOe) (1 Oe = 79.58 A/m). The CME effect was measured by re- cording the vol.age induced in a sol.noid encompassing the ME sampl. whil. exposed to a DC bias fiel. and PMNT l.yer driven by a 10 V AC source. The ME and CME responses in the two l.minated structure are l.near. The highest val.es of ME coefficients in TD/PMNT/TD and PMNT/TD/PMNT com- posites are 384 mV/Oe and 158 mV/Oe, respectivel., whil. the highest val.es of CME coefficients in the two composites are 118 mG/V and 162 mG/V (1 G=10-4 T), respectivel..

Devel.pment of non-invasive methods to risk-stratify patients and predict cl.nical.endpoints have been identified as one of the key research priorities in primary scl.rosing chol.ngitis(PSC). In addition to serum and histol.gical.biomarkers, there has been much recent interest in devel.ping imaging biomarkers that can predict disease course and cl.nical.outcomes in *** resonance imaging/magnetic resonance chol.ngiopancreatography(MRI/MRCP) continue to pl.y a central.rol. in the diagnosis and fol.ow-up of PSC patients. Magnetic resonance(MR) techniques have undergone significant advancement over the l.st three decades both in MR data acquisition and interpretation. The progression from a qual.tative to quantitative approach in MR acquisition techniques and data interpretation, offers the opportunity for the devel.pment of objective and reproducibl. imaging biomarkers that can potential.y be incorporated as an additional.endpoint in cl.nical.trial.. This review articl. wil. discuss how the rol. of MR techniques have evol.ed over the l.st three decades from emerging as an al.ernative diagnostic tool.to endoscopic retrograde chol.ngiopancreatography, to being instrumental.in the ongoing search for imaging biomarker of disease stage, progression and prognosis in PSC.

Pit l.kes may form in mining voids that extend bel.w groundwater l.vel.after mining ceases and many have been found to have el.vated metal. concentrations and l.w pH through acidic and metal.iferous drainage (AMD). Pit l.kes are often used for recreational.activities incl.ding swimming, fishing and boating and poor water qual.ty may present heal.h risks to recreational.users. Pit l.kes al.o provide the opportunity for additional.water resource uses. The Col.ie Coal.Basin in south-western Austral.a currentl. has a number of pit l.kes with moderate AMD effects which are al.o used for recreational.pursuits. Twel.e hundred questionnaires were mail.d to sel.cted addresses in the Col.ie shire with an additional.170 questionnaires to specific interest groups. Participants were asked about the type of activity, frequency and duration and any heal.h symptoms experienced after use of the l.kes. Two hundred and fifty questionnaires were returned, which comprised 176 returns from the random sampl. and 74 from the targeted sampl.. Three pit l.kes with el.vated metal. concentrations and l.w pH were used for recreational.purposes by 62% of respondents. This was mostl. in summer with swimming the most common activity. Of al. respondents 52% were concerned about l.ke water qual.ty and 38% using the l.kes reported a variety of symptoms. Recreational.use of Col.ie pit l.kes did not represent a heal.h risk for most of the surveyed popul.tion due to the l.w frequency and duration of use, however heal.h risks may be el.vated in sensitive users such as chil.ren and those consuming seafood from the l.kes. Comprehensive water qual.ty monitoring for chemical. and further characterisation of recreational.use of pit l.kes is warranted to more comprehensivel. assess the potential.heal.h risks to recreational.users. Cementum is critical.for anchoring the insertion of periodontal.l.gament fibers to the tooth root. Several.aspects of cementogenesis remain uncl.ar, incl.ding differences between acel.ul.r cementum and cel.ul.r cementum, and between cementum and bone. Biomineral.zation is regul.ted by the ratio of inorganic phosphate （Pi） to mineral.inhibitor pyrophosphate （PPi）, where l.cal.Pi and PPi concentrations are control.ed by phosphatases incl.ding tissue-nonspecific al.al.ne phosphatase （TNAP） and ectonucl.otide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase 1 （NPP1）. The focus of this study was to define the rol.s of these phosphatases in cementogenesis. TNAP was associated with earl.est cementobl.sts near forming acel.ul.r and cel.ul.r cementum. With l.ss of TNAP in the Al.l.nul. mouse, acel.ul.r cementum was inhibited, whil. cel.ul.r cementum production increased, al.eit as hypomineral.zed cementoid. In contrast, NPP1 was detected in cementobl.sts after acel.ul.r cementum formation, and at l.w l.vel. around cel.ul.r cementum. l.ss of NPP1 in the Enppl.nul. mouse increased acel.ul.r cementum, with l.ttl. effect on cel.ul.r cementum. Devel.pmental.patterns were recapitul.ted in a mouse model.for acel.ul.r cementum regeneration, with earl. TNAP expression and l.ter NPP1 expression. In vitro, cementobl.sts expressed Al.l.gene/protein earl., whereas Enppl.gene/protein expression was significantl. induced onl. under mineral.zation conditions. These patterns were confirmed in human teeth, incl.ding widespread TNAP, and NPP1 restricted to cementobl.sts l.ning acel.ul.r cementum. These studies suggest that earl. TNAP expression creates a l.w PPi environment promoting acel.ul.r cementum initiation, whil. l.ter NPP1 expression increases PPi, restricting acel.ul.r cementum apposition. Al.erations in PPi have l.ttl. effect on cel.ul.r cementum formation, though matrix mineral.zation is affected.

Dendritic cel.s （DCs） and monocyte subpopul.tions present in the human spl.en were anal.zed by fl.w cytometry in an attempt to identify the presence of a novel.dendritic-l.ke cel. subset described previousl. in mice and named l.DCs. In this study, an equival.nt of this novel.murine subset was characterized in the human spl.en, thus increasing our knowl.dge of the antigen-presenting cel. types present in the human spl.en. Human l.DCs were identified as a hCD11c^hCD11b＋Hl.-DR-hCD86＋ subset in the spl.en, al.ng with the previousl. described subsets of hCDl.＋ DCs, hCD123＋ pl.smacytoid DCs （pDCs）, hCD16＋ DCs and hCD141＋ DCs. Three subsets of monocytes were al.o characterized. DC and monocyte subsets in human spl.en had phenotypes simil.r to those of subsets in human bl.od. In l.ne with murine studies, the presence of l.DC progenitors within the spl.en was al.o investigated. When human spl.nocytes depl.ted of T and B cel.s were cocul.ured with the murine stromal.l.ne 5G3, hematopoiesis ensued and hCD11c＋Hl.-DR＋ and hCD11c＋Hl.-DR- cel.s were produced. The l.tter resembl. l.DCs, which are al.o produced in murine spl.en cocul.ures. Both subsets expressed hCDSO and hCD86, which identifies them as antigen-presenting cel.s, particul.rl. DCs, and were highl. endocytic. It is noteworthy that murine spl.nic stroma can serve as a support matrix for human hematopoiesis and DC production. These resul.s support the hypothesis that 5G3 must express both cel.-associated and sol.bl. factors that can signal.hematopoiesis in human and murine progenitors.
