Synthesis and thermal behavior of [Li(thf)3(μ-Cl)La{N(SiMe3)2}3] and its investigation as spin-coating precursor for lanthanum-based layer formation

The lanthanum（Ⅲ） complex [Li（thf）3（μ-CI）La{N（SiMe3）2}3]（3） was obtained by the reaction of LaCl3 with three equiv of Li[N（SiMe3）2]3 in a tetrahydrofuran solution. The molecular structure of 3 in the solid state was characterized by a tetracoordinated anionic lanthanide（Ⅲ） amide in form of an adduct with LiCl（thf）3 as evidenced by single crystal X-ray structure analysis. In order to study the suitability of 3 as a precursor for the deposition of La2O3/LiLaSiO4 by thin layer deposition techniques,its thermal behavior was investigated by thermogravimetry（TG） and TG-MS-coupled studies. TG studies show a two-step decomposition process, whereby volatile decomposition products can be detected during the second decomposition step. TG measurements under an atmosphere of oxygen produced La2O3, Calcination processes of 3 under ambient atmosphere for 10 h at 1000 ℃ gave La2O3 and LiLaSiO4,which was confirmed by PXRD studies. Metal-organic 3 was applied as spin-coating precursor for La2O3 thin film formation giving the as-deposited layers nearly crack-free.

Lanthanide clusters [Ln4（μ3-OH）2（η2-accp）4（（μ-O）-η2-accp）6]（Ln = Y（4）,Gd（5）; accp = 2-acetylcyclopentanoate） are accessible by treatment of [M（NO33·6 H2 O]（M = Y（1）,Gd（2）） with 3 equiv. of Haccp（3） in presence of NaOH. The molecular structures of 4 and 5） in the solid-state are discussed. The thermal behavior of 4 and 5 was studied by TG under Ar and O2, showing multistep decomposition processes. Additionally, DSC studies were carried out under an atmosphere of O2. PXRD measurements of the TG residues confirm the formation of Ln2 O3.Spin-coating experiments were carried out with 4 and 5 for Ln2 O3 film deposition on silicon substrates. The layers are smooth, close and are of thicknesses of 18.87±1.13 nm and 25.59 ± 4.55 nm for Ln = Y and Gd, which was evidenced by SEM and EDX studies. Field-effect transistors were successfully fabricated by deposition of carbon nanotubes on top of the Y2 O3 films and formation of palladium contacts by a lift-off procedure. An on/off ratio of more than 4 orders of magnitude is achieved without considerable leakage currents. These results demonstrate the potential use of spin-coated Y2 O3 as a gate dielectric in electronic devices.

Magnetic core-shell nanoparticles of type Fe3O4@Ag were synthesized in gram scale following a combined co-precipitation phase-transfer method and afterwards, processed to nanoparticle polymer (polypropylene and polyamide) composites. These composites were used as sheath material for the fabrication of core-sheath fibers. During the melt spinning process, a magnetic field was applied around the roving, whereby the particles move in the still liquid sheath polymer towards the surface. The produced fiber materials were investigated by AFM showing a nanostructuring of the surface, which was indirectly confirmed by determination of a slight surface tension lowering. Nanoparticle movement was shown by cross-section SEM and EDX measurements. The antibacterial activity of the spun fibers was proven by contacting them with Escherichia coli. A long-term stability of this effect was observable by carrying out a standard washability test. In contrast to previous works this new approach uses no deposition technique to introduce surface changes. It rather applies a magnetic force to move appropriately equipped nanoparticles from the inside of the fiber to the surface. This leads in only one step to a strong superficial anchoring of the particles resulting in a unique combination of long-term stable antibacterial and improved anti-soiling effects.

Background:Microvascular invasion(MVI)can only be assessed on a full surgical specimen.We aimed at evaluating,whether the histology of the primary tumor is predictive of MVI in a hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)recurrence.Methods:Patients,who underwent liver resection or orthotopic liver transplantation(OLT)for recurrent HCC from January 2001 until June 2018 were eligible for this retrospective analysis.Resected specimens were evaluated for HCC subtype/morphology,vessels encapsulating tumor clusters(VETC)-pattern and MVI.Dichotomous parameters were analyzed using χ^(2)-test andϕ-values,with P values<0.05 being considered significant.Results:Of 230 HCC recurrences,37(16.1%)underwent repeated liver resection(n=22)or OLT(n=15).Of these,67.6%initially exceeded the Milan criteria.MVI correlated Milan criteria(P=0.005),tumor size(P=0.015)and VETC-pattern(P=0.034)in the primary specimen.The recurrences shared many features of the primary HCC such as tumor grade(P=0.002),VETC-pattern(P=0.035),and MVI(P=0.046).In recurrences,however,only the concordance with the Milan criteria correlated with MVI(P=0.018).No patient without MVI in the primary HCC revealed MVI on early recurrence(<2 years)(P=0.035).Conclusions:HCC recurrences share many biological features of the primary tumor.Moreover,early recurrences of MVI-negative HCC never revealed MVI.This finding offers novel concepts,e.g.,patient selection for salvage OLT.

We report extent and rate of land use/land cover change in a forest-grassland mosaic of Rio Grande do Sul,Brazil,during a recent period of increasing conflicts between native habitat protection and conversion.The area is part of the Atlantic rain forest biome,a Global Biodiversity Hotspot.Analyzing Landsat and Google Earth imagery,and calculating an effective conservation risk index(ECRI)as ratio of converted to remnant area,we specifically compared the effectiveness of designated fully protected areas(FP-PAs)and Sustainable Use areas(SU-PAs)in preventing conversion of native forest and grassland hab-itats for agri-and silviculture,relative to areas outside.Grassland area decreased by 17%,corresponding to a net loss of 59,671 ha,in the entire area.Forest gains exceeded losses,and ECRI was zero inside Full Protection PAs.Non-native tree plantation area increased by 94%over the entire study area;cropland increased by 7%.Conversion for silviculture predominated outside the designated PAs and conversion for agriculture predominated inside the designated PAs.ECRI was generally higher for grassland than forest,and in SU-PAs,grassland ECRI was several times higher than in areas without any protection status.These developments are in stark contrast to the high standards of the Brazilian protected area system and corre-sponding International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources categories.They are due to protracted regularization of land conversion and establishment of designated protection areas.Further-more,they reveal the dilemma of previously managed grasslands in strictly protected areas being eventually succeeded by forest,and the hazards of broad interpretation of the term“sustainable development”.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced background.This paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS experiment.Two taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet pseudorapidity.Differences in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.
