Brain metabolic profile assessed by magnetic resonance spectroscopy in children with Down syndrome:Relation to intelligence quotient

BACKGROUND Down syndrome(Ds)is one of the most common causes of intellectual *** with Ds have varying intelligence quotient(IQ)that can predict their learning *** To assess the brain metabolic profiles of children with Ds and compare them to standard controls,using magnetic resonance spectroscopy(MRs)and correlating the results with *** This case-control study included 40 children with Ds aged 6-15 years and 40 age and sex-matched healthy children as *** was used to evaluate ratios of choline/creatine(Cho/Cr),N-acetyl aspartic acid/creatine(NAA/Cr),and myoinositol/creatine(MI/Cr(in the frontal,temporal,and occipital lobes and basal ganglia and compared to controls and correlated with *** Children with Ds showed significant reductions in NAA/Cr and MI/Cr and a non-significant reduction in Cho/Cr in frontal lobes compared to ***,we observed significant decreases in NAA/Cr,MI/Cr,and Cho/Cr in the temporal and occipital lobes and basal ganglia in children with Ds compared to ***,there was a significant correlation between IQ and metabolic ratios in the brains of children with *** Brain metabolic profile could be a good predictor of IQ in children with Ds.

Comparison of drug release from liquid crystalline monoolein dispersions and solid lipid nanoparticles using a flow cytometric technique

Colloidal lipid particles such as solid lipid nanoparticles and liquid crystalline nanoparticles have great opportunities as drug carriers especially for lipophilic drugs intended for intravenous administration. In order to evaluate drug release from these nanoparticles and determine their behavior after administration, emulsion droplets were used as a lipophilic compartment to which the transfer of a model drug was measured. The detection of the model drug transferred from monoolein cubic particles and trimyristin solid lipid nanoparticles into emulsion droplets was performed using a flow cytometric technique. A higher rate and amount of porphyrin transfer from the solid lipid nanoparticles compared to the monoolein cubic particles was observed. This difference might be attributed to the formation of a highly ordered particle which leads to the expulsion of drug to the surface of the crystalline ***, the sponge-like structure of the monoolein cubic particles decreases the rate and amount of drug transferred. In conclusion, the flow cytometric technique is a suitable technique to study drug transfer from these carriers to large lipophilic acceptors. Monoolein cubic particles with their unique structure can be used successfully as a drug carrier with slow drug release compared with trimyristin nanoparticles.

Modeling Palestinian COVID-19 Cumulative Confirmed Cases:A Comparative study

COVID-19 is still a major pandemic threatening all the *** Palestine,there were 26,764 COVID-19 cumulative confirmed cases as of 27th August *** this paper,two statistical approaches,autoregressive integrated moving average(ARIMA)and k-th moving averages-ARIMA models are used for modeling the COVID-19 cumulative confirmed cases in *** data was taken from World Health Organization(WHO)website for one hundred seventy-six(176)days,from March 5,2020 through August 27,*** identified the best models for the above mentioned approaches that are ARIMA(1,2,4)and 5-th Exponential Weighted Moving Average e ARIMA(2,2,3).Consequently,we recommended to use the 5-th Exponential Weighted Moving Average e ARIMA(2,2,3)model in order to forecast new values of the daily cumulative confirmed cases in *** forecast values are alarming,and giving the Palestinian government a good picture about the next number of COVID-19 cumulative confirmed cases to review her activities and interventions and to provide some robust structures and measures to avoid these challenges.

BACKGROUD Acute heart failure with preserved ejection fraction(HFpEF)is a common but poorly studied cause of hospital admissions among *** study aimed to evaluate predictors of thirty-day readmission,in-hospital mortality,length of stay,and hospital charges in nonagenarians hospitalized with acute *** Patients hospitalized between January 2016 and December 2018 with a primary diagnosis of diastolic heart failure were identified using ICD-10 within the Nationwide Readmission *** excluded patients who died in index admission,and discharged in December each year to allow thirty-day *** regression was performed on each ***-ables with P-valuession *** From a total of 45,393 index admissions,43,646 patients(96.2%)survived to discharge.A total of 7,437 patients(15.6%)had a thirty-day *** cost of readmission was 43,265 United states dollars(UsD)per *** predictors of thirty-day readmission were chronic kidney disease stage III or higher[adjusted odds ratio(aOR)=1.20,95%CI:1.07−1.34,P=0.002]and diabetes mellitus(aOR=1.18,95%CI:1.07−1.29,P=0.001).Meanwhile,female(aOR=0.90,95%CI:0.82−0.99,P=0.028)and palliative care encounter(aOR=0.27,95%CI:0.21−0.34,Pssociated with lower odds of *** arrhythmia(aOR=1.46,95%CI:1.11−1.93,P=0.007)and aortic stenosis(aOR=1.36,95%CI:1.05−1.76,P=0.020)were amongst predictors of in-hospital *** In nonagenarians hospitalized with acute HFpEF,thirty-day readmission is common and *** co-morbidities predict poor *** strategies need to be developed to improve the quality of care and prevent the poor outcome in nonagenarians.

The effect of Mn_(3)O_(4)addition on microhardness,microstructure and electrical properties of vanadium oxide doped zinc oxide varistor ceramics is systematically *** Vicker’s microhardness HV has decreased with increasing the amount of ***,the average grain size has decreased from 27.51μm to 19.55μm with increasing the amount of Mn_(3)O_(4) up to 0.50 mol%,whereas an increase in Mn_(3)O_(4) up to 0.75 mol%has caused the average grain size to increase and then it decreases with increasing Mn_(3)O_(4)from 0.75 mol%to 1.00 mol%.The sintered density has decreased from 5.38 g/cm3 to 5.31 g/cm3 with increasing the amount of Mn_(3)O_(4).The varistor ceramic modified with 0.50 mol%Mn_(3)O_(4) has exhibited excellent nonlinear properties,with 16.29 for the nonlinear coefficient and 441.9μA/cm2 for the leakage current ***,the sample doped with 0.50 mol%Mn_(3)O_(4) has been found to possess donor density as 0.77×10^(18) cm^(-3) and 0.916 eV barrier height.

Topographic characteristics of keratoconus among a sample of Jordanian patients

· AIM: To identify topographic characteristics of keratoconus in a Jordanian sample.· METHODs: This study characterized 210 corneas affected with keratoconus presenting to Jordan University Hospital. Patients were diagnosed based on clinical examinations and Pentacam imaging. Eyes of males(n =101) were of a similar proportion to females(n =109). All of the 111 patients were affected *** ranged between 13 and 44 y with a mean age of25.2y.· REsULTs: Results revealed significant differences between males and females at the level of the flat curvature power, basement membrane thickness and size of the anterior chamber. Eyes were arranged in three groups based on severity levels: mild, moderate and severe determined by the mean curvature power(Km).Results show that the flat(K1) and steep(K2) curvature powers, corneal asphericity coefficient(QV), thinnest point, pachy apex and basement membrane thickness are significantly different among the three groups, but not the corneal and anterior chamber *** analyses, based on sagittal maps, show no differences in keratometric values between eyes with different sagittal patterns except for the vertical location of the pachy apex relative to the pupil center and the thinnest point. Eyes with the island front elevation map are significantly more affected than eyes with the U shape and the ridge pattern.· CONCLUsION: All keratometric values measured except for corneal and anterior chamber volumes vary significantly with disease severity. The vertical pachy apex location correlates well with severity levels while the horizontal location seems to have no effect. Ourstudy also indicates that front elevation maps may be a better predictor of the severity of keratoconus than sagittal maps.

Thermoelectric Power of Cu-Zn Ferrites

A series of Cu-Zn mixed ferrites with composition formula Cu1–xZnxFe2O4 is prepared by the double sintering ceramic technique. Thermoelectric power studies are performed over a temperature range of 300 to 800 k by a deferential method. The results showed a negative value for the seebeck coefficient s for all samples, and all compositions exhibited an n-type semiconductors behavior in the measured range of temperature. The values of charge carrier concentration n and the Fermi energy were determined. The values of n were found to decrease as temperature increased, while Fermi energy directed to more negative values when Zn content is increased. On the basis of these results a mechanism for the conduction in Cu-Zn ferrites is suggested and the properties of the mention compounds were determined.

Assessment of auditory and vestibular functions in vitiligo patients

Objectives: To evaluate audiological and vestibular functions via basic audiological evaluation. otoacoustic emissions and videonystagmography(VNG) in vitiligo *** and methods: 30 vitiligo patients(8 acrofacial and 22 mixed types) as the study group and 30 normal healthy adults as the control group were included in the study. All participants were submitted to basic audiological evaluation. transient and distortion product otoacoustic emmisions(TEOAEs and DPOAEs), vestibular assessment including history taking, office tests and videonystagmography(VNG) and dermatological assessment to determine type, percent of body surface area involvement and duration of ***: This study showed statistically significant difference between control and study groups in pure tone audiometry(PTA) and otoacoustic emissions results. Fitfty percent of vitiligo patients had peripheral vestibular disorders(10 vestibulhar neuritis and 5 posterior canal benign paroxysmal positional ***: The results in this study showed that 50% of vitiligo patients suffered from peripheral vestibular disorders in addition to auditory affection. Vitiligo patients require routine monitoring for auditory and vestibular functions for early identification and monitoring of changes as the disease progress.
