Factors Associated with Students’ Daily Fruit and Vegetable Recommendation at Umm Al-Qura University

Introduction: There is a lack of the awareness in the fruit and vegetable (F & V) recommendation among Saudi society. Although the known facts of the benefits of F & V on health, information on Saudi society following the advised recommendation whether by WhO or local are still unknown. Aim: This cross-sectional study aims to examine the perception of F & V intake among students at Umm Al-Qura University and to assess if they follow these recommendations of F & V locally and internationally. Method: Students from Umm Al-Qura University participated in this study (n = 98, age between 18 - 55). All data were collected using short online survey via Online survey—Survey Monkey in 2019. Result: 55% students were not aware of these recommendations whereas 45% were aware of WhO recommendation. The majority of students 53% have less than two portions a day of F & V. Only 14% have between two to four portions a day. 32% do not eat any portion of F & V daily. 59%, 14%, 5% of students believe that they should have five, seven, more than seven portions a day for being healthy respectively. Maintaining health, reducing the risk for chronic disease and providing essential vitamins and minerals to the body were all reasons why students believe that they should have F & V everyday by 71%. Busy lifestyle, F & V cost, lack of the awareness about the health benefits, dislike of the taste, some F & V spoiled easily were all factors affecting eating F & V daily. Conclusion: University students need educational and nutritional campaigns to spread the awareness about the health benefits of F & V. Most importantly the ministry of health should support those campaigns to increase students’ awareness and build a healthy society with a good habit.

The cornea is maintained in an avascular state by maintaining an environment whereby anti-angiogenic factors take the upper hand over factors promoting angiogenesis. Many of the common pathologies affecting the cornea involve the disruption of such equilibrium and the shift towards new vessel formation, leading to corneal opacity and eventually-vision loss. Therefore it is of paramount importance that the molecular underpinnings of corneal neovascularization（CNV） be clearly understood, in order to develop better targeted treatments. This article is a review of the literature on the recent discoveries regarding pro-angiogenic factors of the cornea（such as vascular endothelial growth factors,fibroblast growth factor and matrix metalloproteinases）and anti-angiogenic factors of the cornea（such as endostatins and neostatins）. Further, we review the molecular underpinnings of lymphangiogenesis, a process now known to be almost separate from（yet related to） hemangiogenesis.

Estimation of the Stress-Strength Reliability for Exponentiated Pareto Distribution Using Median and Ranked Set Sampling Methods

In reliability analysis,the stress-strength model is often used to describe the life of a component which has a random strength(X)and is subjected to a random stress(Y).In this paper,we considered the problem of estimating the reliability𝑅𝑅=P[Yhen the distributions of both stress and strength are independent and follow exponentiated Pareto *** maximum likelihood estimator of the stress strength reliability is calculated under simple random sample,ranked set sampling and median ranked set sampling *** different reliability estimators under median ranked set sampling are *** estimators are obtained when both strength and stress have an odd or an even set *** two other estimators are obtained when the strength has an odd size and the stress has an even set size and vice *** performances of the suggested estimators are compared with their competitors under simple random sample via a simulation *** simulation study revealed that the stress strength reliability estimates based on ranked set sampling and median ranked set sampling are more efficient than their competitors via simple random *** general,the stress strength reliability estimates based on median ranked set sampling are smaller than the corresponding estimates under ranked set sampling and simple random sample ***:Stress-Strength model,ranked set sampling,median ranked set sampling,maximum likelihood estimation,mean square *** estimates under ranked set sampling and simple random sample methods.

Diet remains a key factor that significantly influences the outcomes of the disease. There are some factors that place one at a higher risk of morbidity from the disease, with the common ones being elderly age and coexistent comorbidities. The dietary consumption of the patient is vital since some Western Diets that are largely refined predispose one to cardio-metabolic diseases. In addition to that, the consumption of such diets largely influences the immunity of the individual, whereby it reduces the disease-fighting capability of the immune system. The health education on the patient with the condition has largely widened to encompass the healthy eating habits that one should emulate to reduce the disease severity. Further, in an attempt to promote the awareness of the importance of healthy eating, Eat Well Saskatchewan (EWS) has formulated some social media outreach to ensure that the importance of healthy eating reaches a larger population.

Is Cognition a Determinant of health Related Quality of Life in Community Dwelling Non Demented elderly?

Quality of life (QOL) is an important topic in social and medical sciences, it has a multidimensional nature and is influenced by many factors. Aim of the Work: In this study we want to assess the impact of cognitive impairment on the health related quality of life (hR-QOL) of community dwelling non demented elderly. Subject and Method: 115 non demented elderly, 60 years and older recruited from outpatient geriatric clinic at Al Mansoura General hospital, Dakahlia, Egypt. Each participant underwent, comprehensive geriatric assessment, assessing cognitive function using the mini-mental state examination (MMSE) and montreal cognitive function test, assessing the health related quality of life (hR-QOL) by the RAND-36 health survey. Results: We found that the elderly with impaired cognition by both MMSE and Montreal test were significantly older;the ones with lower education, with more depressive symptoms, had more functional impairment and had lower hR-QOL scores than the elderly with normal cognitive function, after controlling for confounders still cognition was a determinant of hR-QOL. Also by linear correlation coefficient a significant correlation between hR-QOL and age, function, cognition and depression was found. Conclusion: Cognition affects significantly hR-QOL of the elderly, so we can say that interventions targeting cognition in the elderly can significantly improve their QOL.

Suppression of NLRP3 inflammasome by ivermectin ameliorates bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis

Ivermectin is a US Food and Drug Administration(FDA)-approved antiparasitic agent with antiviral and anti-inflammatory *** recent studies reported the possible anti-inflammatory activity of ivermectin in respiratory injuries,its potential therapeutic effect on pulmonary fibrosis(PF)has not been *** study aimed to explore the ability of ivermectin(0.6 mg/kg)to alleviate bleomycin-induced biochemical derangements and histological changes in an experimental PF rat *** can provide the means to validate the clinical utility of ivermectin as a treatment option for idiopathic *** results showed that ivermectin mitigated the bleomycin-evoked pulmonary injury,as manifested by the reduced infiltration of inflammatory cells,as well as decreased the inflammation and fibrosis ***,ivermectin decreased collagen fiber deposition and suppressed transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1)and fibronectin protein expression,highlighting its anti-fibrotic *** study revealed for the first time that ivermectin can suppress the nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain(NOD)-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing protein 3(NLRP3)inflammasome,as manifested by the reduced gene expression of NLRP3 and the apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a caspase recruitment domain(ASC),with a subsequent decline in the interleukin-1β(IL-1β)*** addition,ivermectin inhibited the expression of intracellular nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB)and hypoxia‑inducible factor‑1α(hIF-1α)proteins along with lowering the oxidative stress and apoptotic ***,this study revealed that ivermectin could ameliorate pulmonary inflammation and fibrosis induced by *** beneficial effects were mediated,at least partly,via the downregulation of TGF-β1 and fibronectin,as well as the suppression of NLRP3 inflammasome through modulating the expression of hIF‑1αand NF-κB.

Evaluation of Reticulocyte hemoglobin Content and Serum Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin as Predictive Biomarkers of Anemia in Children on hemodialysis

Background: Diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia with currently available tests is rendered difficult in hemodialysis patients. The aim: To investigate the role of reticulocyte hemoglobin Content (Chr) in the diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia in hemodialysis children in comparison to the used traditional markers and assess the impressiveness and the utility of Neutrophil Gelatinase Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) as a novel biomarker of iron status in those patients. Methods: This study investigated Chr in addition to NGAL serum level in the same line with traditional markers for anemia, including: CBC, serum iron, ferritin, total iron-binding capacity (TIBC), and transferrin saturation (TSAT%). Results: It is more significant that Chr content in hemodialysis children is lower than their controls as they are (27.06 ± 2.90) pg and (32.86 ± 3.59) pg, respectively, p = 0.01. There is no significant difference regarding NGAL between the study groups. Significant negative correlation between Chr with ferritin, urea, creatinine, and positively correlated with iron and RBCS. Chr showed a sensitivity of 90% and specificity of 86.67% to detect iron-deficiency anemia with a cut-off value of 27 pg. Conclusion: Chr is superior to ferritin and TSAT % for the early diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia in hemodialysis children;our results do not support NGAL as a marker of anemia in hemodialysis patients.

Comparison between FIB-4 Index and Fibroscan as Marker of Fibrosis in Chronic hCV Infection in Egyptian Patients

The FIB-4 index is a simple and noninvasive algorithm consisting to evaluate liver fibrosis in chronic hCV infection. Aim: To evaluate the utility of FIB-4 index as a noninvasive marker to assess liver fibrosis in chronic hCV infection in comparison to transient elastography. Patients and Methods: We studied 30 patients having chronic hCV infection based on clinical features, laboratory tests, diagnostics images, Fibroscan and FIB-4 score. According to the results of Fibroscan, the 30 patients were classified into two groups in order to obtain a cutoff value to exclude patient with significant fibrosis: group Ia: 7 patients with no or mild liver fibrosis (F0-F1) and group Ib: 23 pa-tients with significant fibrosis or cirrhosis (F2-F3-F4). Group IIa: 17 patients with no or significant fibrosis (F0-F1-F2-F3) and group IIb (F4): 13 patients with cirrhosis (F4). Results: The mean of FIB-4 index increased with the increase of the fibrosis score. FIB-4 index proved to be sensitive and specific in differentiation between patients with no or mild fibrosis (F0-F1) and patients with significant fibrosis or cirrhosis (F2-F3-F4) with the best cutoff value at 1.61. It also proved to be sensitive and specific in differentiation between patients with no or significant fibrosis (F0-F1-F2-F3) and patients with cirrhosis (F4) with cutoff value at 1.88. Conclusion: The FIB-4 index enabled the correct identification of extreme types of fibrosis. Using these cutoffs (1.61 - 1.88), 87% of patients fell outside these ranges and could thus avoid liverbiopsy with an overall accuracy of 70%.

The Abu Dabbab albite granite(ADAG),in the central Eastern Desert of Egypt,hosts the most significant rare metal ore deposit in the northern part of the Neoproterozoic Arabian-Nubian ***,we report detailed field,petrographic,mineralogical and geochemical investigation of the ADAG,an isolated stock-like granitic body with sharp intrusive contacts against metamorphic country rocks,probably emplaced at about 600 *** fine-grained porphyritic upper unit is a preserved remnant of the shallowly-emplaced apex of the magma chamber,whereas the medium-grained lower unit crystallized at deeper levels under subvolcanic *** peraluminous leucocratic ADAG shares common geochemical characteristics with post-collisional intraplate A-type *** addition to the conspicuous enrichment in Na2O,the ADAG is remarkable for its anomalous concentrations of Ta,Nb,Li,hf,Ga,Sn,Zn and heavy rare-earth ***-Ta minerals in the ADAG are mixed with Fe-Mn oxides,forming black patches that increase in abundance toward of the base of the ***-tantalite,cassiterite and wolframite are the most important ore *** negative Eu anomalies(Eu/Eu*=0.10–0.24)reflect extreme magmatic fractionation and perhaps the effects of late fluid-rock *** ADAG was most likely generated by partial melting of the juvenile middle crust of the ANS as the geotherm was elevated by erosional uplift following lithospheric delamination and it was emplaced at the intersection of lineations of structural *** formation of the ADAG and its primary enrichment in rare metals are essentially due to magmatic processes,late-stage metasomatism caused limited redistribution of rare ***-driven subsolidus modification was limited to the apex of the magma chamber and drove development of greisen,amazonite,and quartz veins along fracture systems.

Impact of Post hepatitis C Chronic Liver Disease and hepatocellular Carcinoma on health Related Quality of Life

Background: Post hepatitis C virus chronic liver disease (CLD) is prevalent among the Egyptian population with a bad impact upon their quality of life (QOL). hepatocellular carcinoma (hCC) is one of the long term and fatal complications of CLD and it also has its negative impact on patient’s quality of life. Aim: To assess impact of CLD and hCC on the quality of life of group of hospitalized elderly patients. Methodology: Ninety elderly patients were divided into three groups: 30 elderly with post hepatitis C virus CLD, 30 elderly with hCC and 30 others free of liver disease as control group (Cn), all were recruited from the in-patient ward and the outpatient clinic of the Geriatric Department, Ain-Shams University hospital. After giving consent, comprehensive geriatric assessment was done with assessment of their quality of life by using the Short Form-36 health survey (SF-36). Investigations including liver enzymes, serum albumin, serum bilirubin and abdominal ultrasound were done. Results: All QOL domains were the highest among control group, followed by hCC group and the least among CLD group. The differences were statistically significant in most subscales and total score [Mean of Cn = 81.9 ± 12.4, Mean of CLD = 47.5 ± 21.9, Mean of hCC = 62.3 ± 16.1;P Cn/CLD ≤ 0.001, P Cn/hCC ≤ 0.001, P CLD/hCC = 0.004]. Albumin was the only biochemical marker correlated positively with total SF score and two subscales (PF and EF) [r = 0.408;P = 0.025]. Conclusion & Recommendation: Our study showed a decrease in the QOL of Egyptian post hepatitis C virus CLD and hCC patients compared with Egyptian population norms. The results showed that CLD were more affected than hCC patients. This had a particularly serious negative impact on their life. The findings indicate a need for updated counseling and educational materials designed to provide adequate information and consistent healthcare service to this patient setting.
