Background: Tactile imaging provides biomechanical mapping of soft tissues. Objective biomechanical and anatomical assessment of critical structures within the vagina and pelvis may allow development and validation of a clinical tool that could assist with clinical decisions regarding obstetrical procedures and mode of delivery. Objective: To assess intraobserver reproducibility of measurements of perineal elasticity and pubic bone-perineal critical distance with a novel tactile probe in pregnant women. Methods: An Antepartum Tactile Imager (ATI) was designed with a vaginal probe resembling a fetal skull. The probe comprises 128 tactile sensors on a double curved surface and measures 46 mm in width and 72 mm in length. The probe has a motion tracking sensor that allows acquisition of 3d tactile images. There were two arms of the study. In the first arm, biomechanical mapping of the perineum and pelvic bone location was performed in 10 non-pregnant women for purposes of demonstrating safety and feasibility. In the second arm, biomechanical mapping was performed in 10 pregnant women to explore intraobserver reproducibility. Each subject had two standardized examinations over 3 - 5 minutes by the same observer. Examination comfort and pain levels were assessed by post-procedure survey. Reproducibility was analyzed by intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) with 95% confidence intervals and Bland-Altman plots. Bias and the 95% limits of agreement were also calculated. Results: The safety and feasibility arm of the study demonstrated high degree of safety and tolerability and reliable acquisition of tactile signals. In the reproducibility arm, 10 pregnant women were recruited at mean gestational age of 34.2 ± 6.5 weeks. The mean perineum elasticity (Young’s modulus, E) was 9.8 ± 5.9 kPa, and the mean pubic bone-perineal critical distance (d) at 20 kPa load was 34.6 ± 6.2 mm. Primary forests are spatially diverse terrestrial ecosystems with unique characteristics,being naturally regenerative and heterogeneous,which supports the stability of their carbon storage through the accumulation of live and dead ***,little is known about the interactions between biomass stocks,tree genus diversity and structure across a temperate montane primary ***,we investigated the relationship between tree structure(variability in basal area and tree size),genus-level diversity(abundance,tree diversity)and biomass stocks in temperate primary mountain forests across Central and Eastern *** used inventory data from726 permanent sample plots from mixed beech and spruce across the Carpathian *** used nonlinear regression to analyse the spatial variability in forest biomass,structure,and genus-level diversity and how they interact with plot-level tree age,disturbances,temperature and *** found that the combined effects of genus and structural indices were important for addressing the variability in biomass across different spatial *** processes in disturbance regimes and uneven tree age support forest hete rogeneity and the accumulation of live and dead biomass through the natural regeneration,growth and decay of the forest *** complexities in basal area index,supporte d by genus-level abundance,positively influence total biomass stocks,which was modulated by tree age and *** forests showed higher tree density and basal area than mixed beech forests,though mixed beech still contributes significantly to biomass across *** heterogeneity was strongly influenced by complexities in forest composition(tree genus diversity,structure).We addressed the importance of primary forests as stable carbon stores,achieved through structure and *** such ecosystems is critical for ensuring the stability of the primary forest,carbon store and biodiversity into the future.

Background:Access to primary health care(PHC)is a fundamental human right and central in the performance of health care systems,however persons with disabilities(PWds)generally experience greater barriers in accessing PHC than the general *** problems are further exacerbated for those with disabilities in rural *** PHC access for PWds is particularly important as such knowledge can inform policies,clinical practice and future research in rural ***:We conducted a synthesis of published literature to explore the factors affecting access to PHC for PWds in rural areas *** an adapted keyword search string we searched five databases(CINAHL,EMBASE,Global Health,Medline and Web of Science),key journals and the reference lists of included *** imported the articles into NVivo and conducted deductive(framework)analysis by charting the data into a rural PHC access *** subsequently conducted inductive(thematic)***:We identified 36 studies that met our inclusion criteria.A majority(n=26)of the studies were conducted in low-and middle-income *** found that PWds were unable to access PHC due to obstacles including the interplay of four major factors;availability,acceptability,geography and *** particular,limited availability of health care facilities and services and perceived low quality of care meant that those in need of health care services frequently had to travel for *** barrier of geographic distance was worsened by transportation *** also observed that where health services were available most people could not afford the ***:Our synthesis noted that modifying the access framework to incorporate relationships among the barriers might help better conceptualize PHC access challenges and opportunities in rural *** also made recommendations for policy development,practice consideration and future research that could lead to more equitable acc

Over the last six years many experiments have been done at the National Ignition Facility to measure the Hugoniot of materials,such asCHplastic at extreme pressures,up to 800 ***“Gbar”design employs a strong spherically converging shock launched through a solid ball of material using a hohlraum radiation *** shock front conditions are characterized using x-ray *** this paper we examine the role of radiation in heating the unshocked material in front of the shock to understand the impact it has on equation of state measurements and how it drives the measured data off the theoretical Hugoniot *** particular,the two main sources of radiation heating are the preheating of the unshocked material by the high-energy kilo-electron-volt x-rays in the hohlraum and the heating of the material in front of the shock,as the shocked material becomes hot enough to radiate *** our model,we estimate that preheating can reach 4 eV in unshocked material,and that radiation heating can begin to drive data off the Hugoniot significantly,as pressures reach above 400 Mb.

A new class of compact and lightweight S-band 1 kW traveling-wave tube (TWT) is being developed for a microwave power module (MPM) that will be used for phased antenna array radar applications. The proposed S-band MPM provides a tenfold peak power increase compared to state-of-the-art S-band MPMs. In this paper, the design of the vacuum power booster TWT part of the MPM is presented. The compact and lightweight S-band TWT is driven by a 6 kV, 0.9 A electron beam. The amplifier is predicted by large-signal simulations to generate over 1 kW at S-band with 25 dB saturated gain and over 40% efficiency. The stability from unwanted oscillations has been investigated. To suppress the oscillations, the helix circuit has been coated with carbon composite material. The coaxial input and output antennas have been fabricated. For efficiency enhancement, a multi-stage depressed collector (MdC) has been designed using a 3d particle-in-cell (PIC) simulator, VORPAL. The collector design makes use of a current loop based on a feedback mechanism for effective design process. The integrated designs of a helix circuit, an electron gun, a periodic permanent magnet (PPM), antennas, and a collector are presented.

Effect of a novel dietary supplement on pH levels of healthy volunteers:a pilot study

OBJECTIVE： To examine the effects of a greens alkalizing dietary supplement on urinary pH levels in individuals with lower-than-average pH levels. METHOdS： The present study investigated the effects of an alkalizing formula （Reserveage Wholeganic GreensTM） on four individuals who had average urinary pH levels below 6.0 for three consecutive days. Following the three-day, baseline period, participants received Reserveage Wholeganic GreensTM for four consecutive days and were instructed to continue to measure their urine pH levels. Paired samples t-tests were used to examine pH levels before and after a four-day treatment period with Reserveage Wholeganic GreensTM. RESULTS： Compared to baseline, mean urine pH levels in all volunteers were significantly higher following the supplementation with Reserveage Wholeganic GreensTM （5.89 ±0.20 vs 5.56 ± 0.23; P〈0.01）. Participants＇ pH levels were also significantly higher than baseline on days 5, 6, and 7 of the treatment period （P 〈 0.05）. Noteworthy, on day 7, participants＇ mean pH levels were significantly higher than at the beginning of the treatment period （6.03 ± 0.15 at day 7 vs 5.65 ± 0.24 at day 4; P 〈 0.01）. CONCLUSION： The findings of this study suggest that supplementation with Reserveage Wholeganic GreensTM has an alkalizing effect on the body and can increase the urine pH levels in individuals with lower-than-average pH levels.
