A novel dandelion-based bionic proppant and its transportation mechanism in different types of fractures

Low-permeability reservoirs are generally characterized by low porosity and low permeability. Obtaining high production using the traditional method is technologically challenging because it yields a low reservoir recovery factor. In recent years, hydraulic fracturing technology is widely applied for efficiently exploiting and developing low-permeability reservoirs using a low-viscosity fluid as a fracturing ***, the transportation of the proppant is inefficient in the low-viscosity fluid, and the proppant has a low piling-up height in fracture channels. These key challenges restrict the fluid(natural gas or oil) flow in fracture channels and their functional flow areas, reducing the profits of hydrocarbon *** study aimed to explore and develop a novel dandelion-bionic proppant by modifying the surface of the proppant and the fiber. Its structure was similar to that of dandelion seeds, and it had high transport and stacking efficiency in low-viscosity liquids compared with the traditional ***, the transportation efficiency of this newly developed proppant was investigated experimentally using six different types of fracture models(tortuous fracture model, rough fracture model,narrow fracture model, complex fracture model, large-scale single fracture model, and small-scale single fracture model). Experimental results indicated that, compared with the traditional proppant, the transportation efficiency and the packing area of the dandelion-based bionic proppant significantly improved in tap water or low-viscosity fluid. Compared with the traditional proppant, the dandelionbased bionic proppant had 0.1-4 times longer transportation length, 0.3-5 times higher piling-up height, and 2-10 times larger placement area. The newly developed proppant also had some other extraordinary features. The tortuosity of the fracture did not influence the transportation of the novel proppant. With the increasing demand for beauty and health,clear aligners(CAs)have been widely applied among patients with ***,patients treated with CAs also face some potential complications,such as demineralization,dental caries,and periodontal *** addition,some patients have additional needs to improve their quality of life,such as bleaching *** order to prevent or solve these problems,the modification of CAs is a promising method because their extensive long-term contact with tooth surfaces makes them ideal devices for implementing adjuvant medical *** this review,we discuss various advanced CAs with medical functions based on the clinical needs of *** far as we know,the additional functions of CAs mainly include antibacterial,remineralization,whitening,and accelerating tooth *** functions are achieved by two major pathways,the combination of CAs with drugs/biomaterials and increasing the capacity or affinity of *** addition,we discuss the current limitations of in vitro experiments which are designed to explore the effectiveness and properties of novel CAs,and the challenges of bringing a multifunctional appliance from proposal to clinical *** the end of this review,we provide insights into the broader prospects for the improvement of CAs.

Hydrogen trapping and diffusion in polycrystalline nickel:The spectrum of grain boundary segregation

Hydrogen as an interstitial solute at grain boundaries(GBs)can have a catastrophic impact on the mechanical properties of many *** the global research effort,the underlying hydrogen-GB interactions in polycrystals remain inadequately *** this study,using Voronoi tessellations and atomistic simulations,we elucidate the hydrogen segregation energy spectrum at the GBs of polycrystalline nickel by exploring all the topologically favorable segregation *** distinct peaks in the energy spectrum are identified,corresponding to different structural *** first peak(-0.205 eV)represents the most favorable segregation sites at GB core,while the second and third peaks account for the sites at GB *** incorporating a thermodynamic model,the spectrum enables the determination of the equilibrium hydrogen concentrations at GBs,unveiling a remarkable two to three orders of magnitude increase compared to the bulk hydrogen concentration reported in experimental *** identified structures from the GB spectrum exhibit vastly different behaviors in hydrogen segregation and diffusion,with the low-barrier channels inside GB core contributing to short-circuit diffusion,while the high energy gaps between GB and neighboring lattice serving as on-plane diffusion *** square displacement analysis further confirms the findings,and shows that the calculated GB diffusion coefficient is three orders of magnitude greater than that of *** present study has a significant implication for practical applications since it offers a tool to bridge the gap between atomic-scale interactions and macroscopic behaviors in engineering materials.

Comparison of antimony and arsenic behaviour at the river-lake junction in the middle of the Yangtze River Basin

As typical metalloid toxic elements widely distributed in environmental media,the geochemical behaviour of antimony(Sb)and arsenic(As)affects environmental *** selected the surface waters and sediments at the river-lake junction of Dongting Lake as the research objects,analysed the concentration and chemical partitioning of Sb and As,assessed its contamination and ecological risk levels,and discussed its sources and potential influencing *** concentrations of dissolved Sb and As in surface waters were low(he concentrations of Sb and As in surface sediments were 2.49-22.65mg/kg and 11.10-136.34 mg/kg,*** and As in sediments were mainly enriched in the fraction of residues,but the proportion of As in bioavailability was significantly higher than that of *** the contamination level of Sb was higher than that of As,the risk assessment code(RAC)showed that the ecological risk level of As was higher than that of *** erosion and mining activities(in the midstream of Zijiang River)were the main contaminated sources of Sb,while As was affect mainly by rainwater *** contamination and ecological risk of Sb in the inlet of the Zijiang River should receive considerable attention,while those of As in the inlet of the Xiangjiang River should also be seriously *** study highlights the need for multi-index-based assessments of contamination and ecological risk and the importance of further studies on the environmental behaviour of metalloids in specific hydrological conditions,such as river-lake junctions.

Research progress on electrolyte key salts for sodium-ion batteries

Sodium-ion batteries(SIBs) are considered potential successors to lithium-ion batteries in the fields of energy storage and low-speed vehicles, thanks to their advantages such as abundant raw material sources, high energy density, and a wide operational temperature range. However, several scientific and engineering challenges still require attention in the development of sodium-ion batteries. Electrolyte salts, as a key component of sodium-ion battery electrolytes, play a critical role in battery performance. This paper provides a brief overview of the research progress on different electrolyte salt systems in sodium-ion batteries. It discusses characteristics such as ionic conductivity, electrochemical windows, electrochemical performance, and thermal safety in various solvent systems. Furthermore, the paper summarizes a series of strategies for controlling electrolyte and electrode interfaces, offering references for addressing the challenges in the mass production and application of sodium-ion batteries.

Excessive manure application stimulates nitrogen cycling but only weakly promotes crop yields in an acidic Ultisol:Results from a 20-year field experiment

Population growth and growing demand for livestock products produce large amounts of manure,which can be harnessed to maintain soil sustainability and crop ***,the impacts of excessive manure application on crop yields,nitrogen(N)-cycling processes and microorganisms remain ***,we explored the effects of 20-year of excessive rates(18 and 27 Mg ha^(–1)yr^(–1))of pig manure application on peanut crop yields,soil nutrient contents,N-cycling processes and the abundance of N-cycling microorganisms in an acidic Ultisol in summer and winter,compared with none and a regular rate(9 Mg ha^(–1)yr^(–1))of pig manure ***-term excessive pig manure application,especially at the high-rate,significantly increased soil nutrient contents,the abundance of N-cycling functional genes,potential nitrification and denitrification activity,while it had a weaker effect on peanut yield and plant *** with manure application,seasonality had a much weaker effect on N-cycling gene *** forest analysis showed that available phosphorus(AP)content was the primary predictor for N-cycling gene abundance,with significant and positive associations with all tested N-cycling *** study clearly illustrated that excessive manure application would increase N-cycling gene abundance and potential N loss with relatively weak promotion of crop yields,providing significant implications for sustainable agriculture in the acidic Ultisols.

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase(G6PD)deficiency is one of the most prevalent hereditary and X-linked enzyme disorders caused by the pathogenetic G6PD(NM_001042351.2)variants(Yang et al.,2016).The clinical manifestations of G6PD deficiency offer a wide spectrum of diverse disease phenotypes(hecker et al.,2013).Investigations of prevalence and molecular epidemiology demonstrate that G6PD deficiency affects over 400 milion individuals worldwide and leads to thousands of deaths annually(Mortality and Causes of Death,2015).

The production of industrial chemicals with renewable biomass feedstock holds potential to aid the world in pursuing a carbon-neutral *** and trimesic acids are important commodity chemicals in industry that are prepared by the oxidation of petroleum-derived *** reduce the dependence on the limited oil source,we develop a potential sustainable alternative towards trimellitic and trimesic acids using biomass-based 2-methyl-2,4-pentandiol （MPD）,acrylate and crotonaldehyde as starting *** process for trimellitic acid includes dehydration/D-A reaction of MPD and acrylate,flow aromatization over Pd/C catalyst,hydrolysis and catalytic aerobic oxidation （60%overall yield）.The challenging regioselectivity issue of D-A reaction is tackled by a matched combination of temperature and deep eutectic solvent ChCl/*** can also participate in the reaction,followed by Pd/C-catalyzed decarbonylation/dehydrogenation and oxidation to provide trimesic acid in 54%overall *** cycle assessment implies that compared to conventional fossil process,our biomass-based routes present a potential in reducing carbon emissions.

Joint optimization of production,maintenance,and quality control considering the product quality variance of a degraded system

The joint optimization of production,maintenance,and quality control has shown effectiveness in reducing long-term operational costs in production ***,existing studies often assume that changes in the mean value of product quality characteristics in a deteriorating system follow a specific distribution while keeping variance *** address this limitation,we propose an innovative method based on the continuous ranking probability score(CRPS).This method enables the simultaneous detection of changes in mean and variance in nonconformities,thus removing the assumption of a specific distribution for quality *** approach focuses on developing optimal strategies for production,maintenance,and quality control to minimize cost per unit of ***,we employ a stochastic model to optimize the production time allocated to the inventory buffer,resulting in significant cost *** effectiveness of our proposed joint optimization method is demonstrated through comprehensive numerical experiments,sensitivity analysis,and a comparative *** results show that our method can achieve cost reductions compared to several other related methods,highlighting its practical applicability for manufacturing companies aiming to reduce costs.
