Fourier transform infrared spectral features of plant biomass components during cotton organ development and their biological implications

Background:The majority of attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared(ATR FT-IR)investigations of cotton are focused on the fiber tissue for biological mechanisms and understanding of fiber development and maturity,but rarely on other cotton biomass comp on *** work examined in detail the ATR FT-IR spectral features of various cott on tissues/organs at reproductive and maturation stages,an a lyzed and discussed their biological ***:The ATR FT-IR spectra of these tissues/organs were an a lyzed and compared with the focus on the lower wavenumber fingerprinting *** outstanding FT-IR bands at 1730,1620,1525,1235,1050 and 895 cm^(-1) represented the major C=O stretching,protein Amide I,Amide II,the O-H/n-H deformation,the total C-O-C stretching and the β-glycosidic linkage in celluloses,respectively,and impacted differently between these organs with the two growth ***,the band intensity at 1620,1525,1235,and 1050 cm^(-1) were exclusively and significantly correlated to the levels of protein(Amide I bond),protein(Amide II bond),cellulose,and hemicellulose,respectively,whereas the band at 1730 cm^(-1) was negatively correlated with ash ***:The resulting observations indicated the capability of ATR FT-IR spectroscopy for monitoring changes,transportation,and accumulation of the major chemical components in these tissues over the cotton growth *** other words,this spectral technology could be an effective tool for physiological,biochemical,and morphological research related to cotton biology and development.

Quantitative analysis of Arctic ice flow acceleration with increasing temperature

This study explores the ice flow acceleration(21.1%)of Pedersenbreen during 2016–2017 after the extremely warm winter throughout the whole Arctic in 2015/2016 using in situ data and quantitatively analyses the factors contributing to this *** data sets,including 2008–2018 air temperature data from ny-?lesund,ten-year in situ GPS measurements and Elmer/Ice ice flow modelling under different ice temperature scenarios,suggest that the following factors contributed to the ice flow acceleration:the softened glacier ice caused by an increase in the air temperature(1.5℃)contributed 2.7%–30.5%,while basal lubrication contributed 69.5%–97.3%.The enhanced basal sliding was mostly due to the increased surface meltwater penetrating to the bedrock under the rising air temperature conditions;consequently,the glacier ice flow acceleration was caused mainly by an increase in subglacial *** Pedersenbreen,there was an approximately one-year time lag between the change in air temperature and the change in glacier ice flow velocity.

Exposure to persistent organic pollutants(POPs)has been reported as a potential risk factor for diabetes in ***,effect modifications by sex and age,especially among Asian populations,have seldom been *** the present study,we assessed associations of major POPs exposure including organochlorine pesticides(OCPs),polychlorinated biphenyls(PCBs),and polybrominated diphenyl ethers(PBDEs),with diabetes in Korean adults(n=1,295),a subset of the Korean national Environmental health Survey(KonEHS)Cycle 3(2015−2017).In the adult population,serum levels of dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes(DDTs)and PCB167 showed an increased odds ratio(OR)for *** stratified by gender,associations became stronger and more consistent in women:In women,serum levels of OCPs including p,p′-DDT,p,p′-dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene(p,p′-DDE),andΣOCPs and mono-ortho PCBs,such as PCB118 and PCB157,were significantly associated with *** the male participants,however,no significant positive associations were *** stratified by a cutoff age of 50 years,most studied POPs except PBDEs,i.e.,p,p′-DDT,p,p′-DDE,PCB118,PCB157,PCB167,PCB138,and PCB153,showed significant associations with diabetes,in the older *** the younger group,however,no measured POPs showed a significant positive *** of endogenous sex hormones or interaction of POPs on aryl hydrocarbon receptors may partly explain the observed differences by gender and age,although further experimental confirmations should *** findings show that POPs exposure at the current levels is associated with diabetes among general Korean adults,and such associations could be modified by gender and age.

Vickers and Knoop Micro-hardness Behavior of Coarse-and Ultrafine-grained Titanium

The present study focuses on the relationship of hardness with grain size for commercially pure titanium （CpTi） and ultra fine grained titanium （UFG-Ti） produced by equal channel angular process （ECAP） of Cp-Ti）.Vickers and Knoop indentations of UFG-Ti at different loads was ～2.5 times harder than those of *** diffraction （XRD） analysis showed peak broadening in UFG-Ti due to reduced grain size and micro-lattice *** electron microscopy （SEM） revealed that ECAP had reduced the grain size of Cp-Ti by ～10 *** statistics showed UFG-Ti with lower dispersion in hardness values compare to Cp-Ti indicating a more uniform microstructure.
