Our research demonstrated that phloridzin has double directional adjusting function of estrogen and antiestrogen *** has significant effects on the proliferation of estrogen sensitive ER(+) MCF-7 cells in absence of *** addition of phloridzin simultaneously,phloridzin showed antagonism on estradiol-induced MCF-7 cells proliferation,but it did not significantly affect proliferation of Estrogen insensitive ER(-) MDA-MB-231 *** inducedβ-galactosidase activity in a yeast two-hybrid *** increase of the uterine weight and serum estradiol content of mouse was observed when administered orally for 7 *** oral administration, phloridzin was absorbed mainly into the blood,a small part is metabolized to *** study proved that phloridzin can be distributed to the target organ and play the role of phytoestrogen.

In this study, the authors experimentally investigated the changes of the mean velocity component profiles, half-widths （b12）, turbulence intensities, Reynolds shear stress and intermittency of turbulence of a transient plane turbulent jet developing from a jet exit into a hood opening. The values of maximum mean-velocity and half-widths of the axial velocity profile along the center-line of the jet are greater than those for a fully developed two-dimensional jet. Turbulence intensity in the axial direction is not affected by the flow rate ratio. At the same time, turbulence intensity in the lateral direction becomes greater as the hood is approached and the flow rate ratio Q3/Q1 becomes larger （QI is jet flow rate from nozzle and Q3 is suction flow rate produced by the hood）. These experimental results are in accord with the distributions of production terms in the axial and lateral directions. Reynolds shear stress becomes smaller as the flow rate ratio becomes larger near the hood. Dimensionless distance y1/br2, from the center axis of the flow to the point where intermittency factor y becomes a constant value, narrows as the flow rate ratio becomes larger near the hood.

Associations among pain catastrophizing, muscle strength, and physical performance after total knee and hip arthroplasty

AIM To investigate whether reductions in pain catastrophizing associated with physical performance in the early period after total knee arthroplasty(TKA) or total hip arthroplasty(THA).METHODS The study group of 46 participants underwent TKA or THA. The participants were evaluated within 7d before the operation and at 14d afterwards. Physical performance was measured by the Timed Up and Go(TUG) test, and 10-m gait time was measured at comfortable and maximum speeds. They rated their knee or hip pain using a visual analog scale(VAS) for daily life activities. Psychological characteristics were measured by the Pain Catastrophizing Scale(PCS). Physical characteristics were measured by isometric muscle strength of knee extensors and hip abductors on the operated side. The variables of percent changes between pre-and postoperation were calculated by dividing post-operation score by pre-operation *** Postoperative VAS and PCS were better than preoperative for both TKA and THA. Postoperative physical performance and muscle strength were poorer than preoperative for both TKA and THA. The percent change in physical performance showed no correlation with preoperative variables. In TKA patients, the percent change of PCS showed correlation with percent change of TUG(P = 0.016), 10-m gait time at comfortable speeds(P = 0.003), and 10-m gait time at maximum speeds(P = 0.042). The percent change of muscle strength showed partial correlation with physical *** percent change of VAS showed no correlation with physical performances. On the other hand, in THA patients, the percent change of hip abductor strength showed correlation with percent change of TUG(P =0.047), 10-m gait time at comfortable speeds(P = 0.001),and 10-m gait time at maximum speeds(P = 0.021). The methanol extract of grains of paradise (GP), the seed of Aframomum melegueta, which is distributed throughout West Africa, was administered during an animal breeding test. The extract suppressed body weight gain and decreased the weight of adipose tissues in breeding mice, with a greater effect on mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD) than on those fed a normal diet (ND). Other significant effects of GP intake included increased serum triglyceride (TG) concentration and reduced hepatic total cholesterol (TC) and TG concentrations. GP intake markedly prevented fat accumulation and improved hepatic lipid metabolism in HFD-fed mice. In addition, GP extract at a dosage of 5 mg/kg body weight decreased sympathetic nerve activity (SNA) in brown adipose tissue (BAT), while capsaicin, a major component of chili pepper, activated BAT SNA. This suggested that GP exerts a potential anti-obesity effect by a different mechanism from that of capsaicin.

In dentistry, speech evaluation is important for appropriate orofacial dysfunction rehabilitation. The speech intelligibility test is often used to assess patients’ speech, and it involves an evaluation by human listeners. However, the test has certain shortcomings, and an alternative method, without a listening procedure, is needed. The purpose of this study was to test the applicability of an automatic speech intelligibility test system using a computerized speech recognition technique. Speech of 10 normal subjects, when wearing a dental appliance, was evaluated using an automatic speech intelligibility test system that was developed using computerized speech recognition software. The results of the automatic test were referred to as the speech recognition scores. The Wilcoxon signed rank test was used to analyze differences in the results of the test between the following 2 conditions: with the palatal plate in place and with the palatal plate removed. Spearman correlation coefficients were used to evaluate whether the speech recognition score correlated with the result of conventional intelligibility test. The speech recognition score was significantly decreased when wearing the plate (z = -2.807, P = 0.0050). The automatic evaluation results positively correlated with that of conventional evaluation when wearing the appliance (r = 0.729, P = 0.017). The automatic speech testing system may be useful for evaluating speech intelligibility in denture wearers.

YMnO3 and the Fe doped samples were prepared and the lattice constants, electrical conductivities and Seebeck coefficients were measured. The solubility limit of Fe for Mn of YMnO3 was 25 atomic %, the electrical conductivity increased in the range of 350°C - 700°C as Fe increased up to 10%, and the doped samples showed larger Seebeck coefficient than undoped samples.
