Objective: To examine the expression and localisation of adrenomedullln in hum an coronary atherosclerotic lesions from patients with unstable angina(UAP) and stable angina(SAP), and to study the relation between adrenomedullin expression and plaque instability. Design: A retrospective observational study. Patients: D irectional coronary atherectomy samples were obtained from 15 patients with UAP and 12 with SAP. Methods: The localisation of adrenomedullin was examined by imm unohistochemistry, and adrenomedullin mRNA expression was measured by quantitati ve polymerase chain reaction. Results: Adrenomedullin immunoreactivity was prefe rentially localised in macrophages, intimai smooth muscle cells, and proliferate d microvessels. The mean number of adrenomedullin positive cells in five high po wer fields(x 400) per specimen was higher in patients with UAP than in those wit h SAP (mean (SEM), 110(13) v 76 (7); p< 0.05); and the ratio of adrenomedullin p ositive to total cells was higher in patients with UAP (43.0 (2.2)%v 34.2 (2.0) %; p< 0.01). More adrenomedullin mRNA was expressed in the plaque of patients w ith UAP than in those with SAP (60.4 (16.9)%v 9.7 (3.3)%; p< 0.01). Conclusion s: The findings suggest that adrenomedullin is involved in the development of at herosclerosis and plaque instability in human coronary arteries, in an autocrine or paracrine manner.

Purpose: To clarify the effectiveness of 3-D delivery animation software for the mother’s and husband’s satisfaction with delivery. Subjects and Method: We independently developed a software application used to display the pelvic region and explain the labor process. The study involved a collaboration with hospital staff who recruited 18 primiparous and 18 multiparous mothers who were hospitalized for delivery at Facility A. The midwife explained the process of delivery using the “Delivery Animation Software”. A self-administered, anonymous questionnaire was distributed and analyzed separately for primiparous and multiparous mothers and their husbands. Results: 1) For both primiparous and multiparous couples, both mothers and their husbands gained a significantly higher level of understanding after delivery than during pregnancy. 2) The Self-Evaluation Scale for Experience of Delivery results were as follows: “I did my best for the baby even if it was painful” was selected more often for “birth coping sk.lls”;“reliable medical staff” was selected more often for “physiological birth process”;“the birth progressed as I expected” was selected frequently by primiparous mothers;and “the birth progressed smoothly” was selected often by multiparous mothers. 3) In terms of husbands’ satisfaction with the delivery, “I was satisfied with the delivery”, “I was given an easy-to-understand explanation”, and “They explained the process to me” was selected of primiparous and multiparous fathers. 4) All primiparous and multiparous mothers positively evaluated whether the delivery animation was helpful in understanding the process of delivery. Conclusion: The delivery animation was effective in improving the understanding and satisfaction of both the mothers and their husbands.

In the prediction theory for the broadband noise generated from a multiblade fan, the vortices in the k.rman vortex street was divided into n pieces. The frequency distribution of the noise was estimated so that the Strouhal number could become constant even if the wak. is spread by the diffusion. From the results of the measurement of the internal flow of the fan, it was found that the noise was related to the wak. characteristics of the specific location in the scroll casing where the relative flow velocity was high. The noise operating in the vicinity of the maximum efficiency point of the fan was distributed over the domain from 500 Hz to 1250 Hz. It was experimentally proved that the influence of the k.rman vortex street on the noise in the domains of high and low frequencies did not exist when the distribution of the estimated sound pressure level corresponded to the measured broadband noise.

Increased microvessel density in the peri-infarct region has been reported and has been correlated with longer survival times in ischemic strok. patients and has improved outcomes in ischemic animal *** raises the possibility that enhancement of angiogenesis is one of the strategies to facilitate functional recovery after ischemic *** vessels and neuronal cells communicate with each other using various mediators and contribute to the pathophysiology of cerebral ischemia as a *** this mini-review,we discuss how angiogenesis might couple with axonal outgrowth/neurogenesis and work.for functional recovery after cerebral *** occurs within 4 to 7 days after cerebral ischemia in the border of the ischemic core and ***-ischemic angiogenesis may contribute to neuronal remodeling in at least two ways and is thought to contribute to functional ***,new blood vessels that are formed after ischemia are thought to have a role in the guidance of sprouting axons by vascular endothelial growth factor and laminin/β1-integrin ***,blood vessels are thought to enhance neurogenesis in three stages:1)Blood vessels enhance proliferation of neural stem/progenitor cells by expression of several extracellular signals,2)microvessels support the migration of neural stem/progenitor cells toward the peri-infarct region by supplying oxygen,nutrients,and soluble factors as well as serving as a scaffold for migration,and 3)oxygenation induced by angiogenesis in the ischemic core is thought to facilitate the differentiation of migrated neural stem/progenitor cells into mature ***,the regions of angiogenesis and surrounding tissue may be coupled,representing novel treatment targets.

A continuous investigation of aerosol pollutants in Cape Hedo, Japan was conducted from October 2005 to August 2006 by Aerodyne aerosol mass spectrometer （AMS）. This article focused on the analysis of long-range transport of organic aerosol from continental origin to the remote island. Based on the transport distance and air mass origin, four main air mass origins were considered, including North China, South China, Japan and k.rea. Although the mass concentration and air mass origin were quite different during study period, the mass spectrum and size distribution of organic matter and oxidized organics were similar, which showed uni-modal distribution with modal diameter of around 500 nm. The loss rate of organics was （5.15 ± 0.55） × 10^-6 s^-1 obtained by plotting the concentration against the transport time. Conversion rate of SO2 to sulfate and oxidation rate of organics were （1.07 ± 0.15） × 10^-5 and （1.09 ± 0.52） × 10^-6 s^-1, respectively.

Tlymphocytes are generated from hematopoietic stem cells in bone marrow,mature in the thymus and migrate to peripheral lymphoid *** thymus is composed of the cortex and medulla,and there are many immature thymocytes in the cortex and more mature thymocytes are present in the *** thymocytes expressing T-cell receptor(TCR)αβchains generated by TCR gene rearrangement selectively differentiate only when they are determined to be useful cells by judgement of the strength of interaction between their TCR and peptide antigens presented on major histocompatibility complex(MHC)molecules of cortical thymic epithelial cells(cTECs).Cells unable to recognize peptide-MHC ligands cannot receive survival signals.

The Rishiri Fall Experiment (RISFEX ) campaign was performed in September 2003 at Rishiri island (45.07 N,141.12 E,and 35 m asl) in the sea of Japan to investigate photochemical production of ozone in the marine boundary layer. Total peroxy radicals ROx (HO2 + RO2) and NOx (NO + NO2) were measured together with other chemical species and physical parameters relevant to ozone production. The ozone production rate (P(O3)) was estimated from measured peroxy radicals and was found to be highly variable between days,with 30-min averaged midday values varying from 0.2 to 1.7 ppbv/h (ppbv refers to part per billion by volume). The daytime mean P(O3) for the air masses from relatively clean NE sector is close to zero,but significantly higher for air masses from more polluted W and SE sector,suggesting the impact of transport of pollutants on the remote local ozone production. The experimentally determined P(O3) is compared with those derived from a time-dependent box model based on Regional Atmospheric Chemistry Modeling (RACM),and both the methods give the results generally in agreement. The model calculation shows that HO2 + NO reaction contributes most to ozone production,ca. 60% at midday,followed by the reactions of CH3O2 and ISOP (peroxy radicals formed from isoprene) with NO which account for ca. 13% and 10% to ozone production,respectively,at noon. Sensitivity analysis indicates that the ozone production during the measurement period is within NOx-limited regime.

An investigation at Cape Hedo, Japan, from 2005 to 2006, focused on the long-range transport of organic aerosol （OA） from the Asian continent. An Aerodyne aerosol mass spectrometer was used to investigate the OA data collected over the study. OA concentrations were low from July to September and peak.d during March and April. Based on air mass origins, four OA source regions were identified： northern China, southern China, Japan, and k.rea. OA concentrations measured at Cape Hedo from the four sources did not exhibit large differences. Conversely, the frequencies of the air masses reaching Cape Hedo from the different regions varied considerably. Northern China was identified as the primary source of organic aerosols at Cape Hedo. Examination of variations in the ratio of m/z 44 to OA concentrations with transport time showed that OAs were partially oxidized during transport
