Burst buffer has become a major component to meet the I/O performance requirement of HPC bursty *** paper proposes Gfarm/BB that is a file system for a burst buffer efficiently exploiting node-local storage *** node-local storages improve storage performance,they are only available during the job ***/BB should have better access and metadata performance while it should be constructed on-demand before the job *** improve the read and write performance,it exploits the file descriptor passing and remote direct memory access(RDMA).It improves the metadata performance by omitting the persistency and the redundancy since it is a temporal file *** RDMA,writes and reads bandwidth are improved by 1.7x and 2.2x compared with IP over InfiniBand(IPoIB),*** achieves 14700 operations per second in the directory creation performance,which is 13.4x faster than the fully persistent and redundant *** construction of Gfarm/BB takes 0.31 seconds using 2 *** benchmark and ARGOT-IO application I/O benchmark show the scalable performance improvement by exploiting the locality of node-local *** with BeeOND,Gfarm/BB shows 2.6x and 2.4x better performance in IOR write and read benchmarks,respectively,and it shows 2.5x better performance in ARGOT-IO.

BACKGROUND: Ischemic preconditioning(IPC) has been shown to decrease liver injury and to increase hepatic microvascular perfusion after liver ischemia reperfusion. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of IPC on hemodynamics of the portal venous system. METHODS: Thirty-two rats were randomized into two groups: IPC group and control group. The rats of the IPC group underwent IPC by 10 minutes of liver ischemia followed by 10 minutes of reperfusion before liver ischemia, and the rats of the control group were subjected to 60 minutes of partial liver ischemia. Non-ischemic lobes were resected immediately after reperfusion. The animals were studied at 4 hours and 12 hours after reperfusion. Mean arterial pressure, heart rate, portal vein flow and pressure were analyzed. Blood was collected for the determination of the levels of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, calcium, lactate, pH, bicarbonate, and base excess. RESULTS: IPC increased the mean portal vein flow at 4 hours and 12 hours after reperfusion. IPC recovered 78% of the meanportal vein flow at 12 hours after reperfusion. IPC decreased the levels of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and lactate, and increased the levels of ionized calcium, bicarbonate and base excess at 12 hours after reperfusion. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that IPC increases portal vein flow and enhances hepatoprotective effects in liver ischemia reperfusion. The better recovery of portal vein flow after IPC may be correlated with the lower levels of transaminases and with the better metabolic profile.

A Comparative Study of the Hydroxyl and Saponification Values of Polysorbate 60 in International Food Additive Specifications

We investigated the hydroxyl and saponification values of 27 samples of Polysorbate 60 products that were commercially available worldwide. We observed that the values of most of the studied samples were not within the range established at the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA), while they did agree with the specifications described in the USA, the EU and Japan. We believe that purities of the new commercial Polysorbate 60 samples are higher than those of the older products which were available when the JECFA specifications were discussed (around 1973). The present study suggests that the hydroxyl and saponification values of the current JECFA specifications for Polysorbate 60 should be re-evaluated.

A 72-year-old man with abdominal aortic aneurysm and angina pectoris underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) prior to abdominal aortic surgery. Perioperatively, he developed thrombocytopenia ((29,000 mm3), which was suggested as heparin-induced thrombocytopenia. Cardiac status was also aggravated at the same time, suggestive of bypass graft thrombosis. The results of platelet factor 4 (pf4) antibody test were negative, but platelet aggregation test was positive for heparin. Heparin was immediately discontinued, and replaced by argatroban;the patient’s cardiac status improved. One month later, he underwent abdominal aortic surgery using argatroban without issues related to anticoagulation and hemostasis. Autologous donated fresh blood prepared by the “switch-back” method was also used in this case, and its value was confirmed.

Extraction Method and Determination of Sudan I Present in Sunset Yellow FCF by Isocratic High-Performance Liquid Chromatography

A method to extract and analyze Sudan I present in Sunset Yellow FCF (SYF) products was developed and validated. The method included the simple extraction of Sudan I from the SYF product using water, acetonitrile, and ethyl acetate and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis with isocratic elution using acetonitrile:water (7:3) with a photodiode array detector at 485 nm. This method was found to remove most of the excess SYF colorant and other impurities before injection to the HPLC instrument, making it easy to maintain precision control in routine laboratory tests for Sudan I in the SYF colorant. The detection limit of Sudan I in SYF products was 0.2 μg/g. A survey conducted to determine Sudan I in 13 commercial SYF samples from Japanese manufacturers from 1970 to 2010 showed that the levels of Sudan I ranged from 0.3 to 1.9 μg/g in products manufactured from 1970 to 1996 and were below the limit of detection in products manufactured after 2005.

AIM: To investigate if transnasal endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (n-ERCP) using an ultrathin forward-viewing scope may overcome the disadvantages of conventional oral ERCP (o-ERCP) related to the large- caliber side-viewing duodenoscope. METHODS: The study involved 50 patients in whom 25 cases each were assigned to the o-ERCP and n-ERCP groups. We compared the requirements of esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) prior to ERCP, rates and times required for successful cannulation into the pancreatobiliary ducts, incidence of post-procedure hyperamylasemia, cardiovascular parameters during the procedure, the dose of a sedative drug, and successful rates of endoscopic naso-biliary drainage (ENBD). RESULTS: Screening gastrointestinal observations were easily performed by the forward-viewing scope and thus no prior EGD was required in the n-ERCP group. There was no significant difference in the rates or times for cannulation, or incidence of hyperamylasemia between the groups. However, the cannulation was relatively difficult in n-ERCP when the scope appeared U-shape under fluoroscopy. Increments of blood pressure and the amount of a sedative drug were significantly lower in the n-ERCP group. ENBD was successfully performed succeeding to the n-ERCP in which mouth-to-nose transfer of the drainage tube was not required. CONCLUSION: n-ERCP is likely a well-tolerable methodwith less cardiovascular stress and no need of prior EGD or mouth-to-nose transfer of the ENBD tube. However, a deliberate application is needed since its performance is difficult in some cases and is not feasible for some endoscopic treatments such as stenting.

Aim: We aimed to investigate whether the agonists for liver X receptor (LXR) ameliorate lupus-like phenotypes in mice mediated by the clearance of apoptotic cells, and compare with peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) γ plus PPARδ agonists, which also facilitate the clearance of apoptotic cells and exert anti-inflammatory effects in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Methods: We investigated the efficacy of LXR agonist (GW3965) or dual treatment of PPARγ (pioglitazone) and PPARδ (GW0742) agonists in SLE animal models, female MRL/MpJ-Fas/J mice and BALB/cAJcl mice treated with pristane. The data were analyzed with one-way analysis of variance and Tukey’s honestly significant difference tests. Results: The treatment with LXR or PPARγ/δ agonists did not significantly alter the swelling of lymph nodes, ds-DNA production, albuminuria, histological score of glomerular lesions, and mRNA expression of target genes including Abca1, C1qa, Icam1, Mertk and Tnf. Conclusion: LXR or PPARγ/δ agonists targeting the impaired clearance for apoptosis cells may not be efficient in the remission induction therapy in SLE.

本文试图通过将战后日本著名知识分子丸山真男的观点与日本另一位杰出战后知识分子竹内好的观点进行对话,来寻求对丸山真男进行当代解读的可能性。在亲历了第二次世界大战期间的种种非理性之后,丸山开始明确思考战后局势下政治的本质。以他在1961年的文章《当代世界的政治与人》一文中所倡导的“将他人理解为他人”为例,他的关注点向来和自我与他人、“内部”与“外部”世界之间的联系有关。然而在面对同样的问题时,竹内好却提出了相反的观点。丸山是面向他人的,而竹内则着眼于自我的内在本质。笔者以丸山的理念为出发点,同时指出竹内认为自我是开放的或毫无防御的观点对于实现“将他人理解为他人”这一目标而言至关重要。通过讨论这两位知识分子的观点,本文提出了基于“温和主体”的政治理念,并与丸山的“强权主体”概念形成对比。笔者认为,考察“温和主体”是充分发掘丸山思想潜力的必要过程。
