Dear Editor,Takotsubo syndrome(TS)is a stress-induced non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy that is more common in women,but is associated with higher morbidity and mortality in *** known as brok.n.heart syndrome,TS is characterised by transient left ventricular(LV)dysfunction independent of obstructive coronary artery *** is a polygenic condition and nowhere is this more evident than the use of positive inotropes,such as isoprenaline(ISO)in pre-clinical models.1 There is no standard therapy for brok.n.heart syndrome because the mechanisms underlying the condition remain ***,there is no consensus on predisposition for Takotsubo2 and our goal was to better understand the regulatory mechanism as a first step towards improved treatment *** acid or SAHA,a drug approved for cancer treatment by the US Food and Drug Administration has previously been shown to improve cardiopulmonary function.3 We tested the hypothesis that the cardioprotective benefit of SAHA in a pre-clinical model of Takotsubo is conferred by an epigenetic acetylation/deacetylation(Ac/Dc)axis.

Type 1 diabetes(T1D)is an autoimmune disease that selectively destroys insulin-producingβ-cells in the *** unmet need in diabetes management,current therapy is focussed on *** the reprogramming of progenitor cells into functional insulin-producingβ-cells has also been proposed this remains controversial and poorly *** challenge is determining why default transcriptional suppression is refractory to exocrine *** the death of a 13-year-old girl with established insulin-dependent T1D,pancreatic cells were harvested in an effort to restore and understand exocrine *** pancreas showed classic silencing ofβ-cell progenitor genes with barely detectable insulin(Ins)***126,a highly selective inhibitor of EZH2 methyltransferase activity influenced H3k27me3 chromatin content and transcriptional control resulting in the expression of coreβ-cell markers and ductal progenitor ***126 also reinstated Ins gene expression despite absoluteβ-cell *** studies show the refractory nature of chromatin characterises exocrine suppression influencingβ-cell *** regeneration studies are warranted to determine if the approach of this n-of-1 study generalises to a broader T1D population.

Microbial Adhesion on Orthodontic Ligating Materials: An <i>in Vitro</i>Assessment

Orthodontic fixed appliance therapy is the commonest mode of treatment for most types of malocclusions (teeth irregularities). However, these materials are liable for microbial adhesion, which predisposes the wearer to increased microbial burden. The present study aims to evaluate, microbial adhesion and growth on commonly used orthodontic ligating materials (Teflon coated wire, stainless steel wire, elastic rings) under in vitro condition. Furthermore, the role of saliva on adhesion and microbial colonization on said materials was also assessed. Experiments were conducted with three different orthodontic ligating materials each in 6 numbers. Growth OD, metabolic activity and cell viability were the experimental variables in addition to SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) analysis performed. Results revealed irespective of the nature of the ligating materials, microbial adhesion and growth were observed in all the materials and suggested that the chosen materials promotes microbial adhesion. nevertheless, stainless steel ligatures were less prone to adhesion compared to Teflon coated and elastic ligatures. Presence of saliva accelerates adhesion and growth.

knowledge and Practice on Tuberculosis among Prison Workers from Seremban Prison

Background: Prisons are always overcrowded, and congestion leads to close relationships, and subsequently, increases the likelihood of airborne illnesses including Tuberculosis (TB). The purpose of this study was to identify the level of knowledge of TB transmission, and TB preventive practices of prison workers in a Malaysian prison. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with convenience sampling technique utilizing a validated questionnaire. 280 prison workers employed at the Seremban Prison were invited to participate in the study. The study period was from January 2019 to June 2019. Inclusion criteria included age above 18 years old and English literacy. The questionnaire was divided into 3 parts which were sociodemographic details, knowledge on TB transmission and TB preventive practices. The analysis was done in SPSS version 24.0 using appropriate statistical tests. Descriptive statistics was used to evaluate the knowledge level of TB transmission, and TB preventive practices of prison workers at Seremban prison. Results: Around 190 questionnaires were obtained usable registering a response rate of 68.5%. This study showed that around 66% of prison workers had moderate knowledge while around 26% had good knowledge of TB transmission. In terms of practice, around 93.7% of prison workers applied good TB prevention practice. Conclusion: This study showed that the majority of the respondents had moderate knowledge regarding TB transmission. However, their disease preventive practices were at acceptable levels which implied that existing prison standard operating procedures play an important on instilling these practices. nonetheless, prison management should take important action by providing education and training to increase TB knowledge among prison workers to ensure that this practice is always upheld in both prison and community settings.
