Predicting the optical observables for nucleon scattering on even-even actinides

The previously derived Lane consistent dispersive coupled-channel optical model for nucleon scattering on 232Th and 23Su nuclei is extended to describe scattering on even-even actinides with Z=90-98. A soft-rotator- model （SRM） description of the low-lying nuclear structure is used, where the SRM Hamiltonian parameters are adj.sted to the observed collective levels of the target nucleus. SRM nuclear wave functions （mixed in K quantum number） have been used to calculate the coupling matrix elements of the generalized optical model. The ＂effective＂ deformations that define inter-band couplings are derived from the SRM Hamiltonian parameters. conservation of nuclear volume is enforced by introducing a dynamic monopolar term to the deformed potential, leading to additional couplings between rotational bands. The fitted static deformation parameters are in very good agreement with those derived by Wang and collaborators using the Weizs^cker-Skyrme global mass model （WS4）, allowing use of the latter to predict cross sections for nuclei without experimental data. A good description of the scarce ＂optical＇experimental database is achieved. SRM couplings and volume conservation allow a precise calculation of the compound-nucleus formation cross sections, which is significantly different from that calculated with rigid-rotor potentials coupling the ground-state rotational band. The derived parameters can be used to describe both neutron- and proton-induced reactions.

The opening and spreading of the Atlantic Ocean between Africa and South America evolved during the Early cretaceous and were preceded by dramatic tholeiitic(mafic)magmatism and minor silicic and alkaline *** features are presently recognized from the equatorial regions of Brazil and Africa to the Falklands and South *** southeastern South America,continental flood basalts and related plumbing systems constitute the ParanáMagmatic Province(PMP),whose African counterpart is the Etendeka Magmatic Province(EMP).In northeastern Brazil,dike swarms and sill complexes compose the Equatorial Atlantic Magmatic Province(EQUAMP).As a common feature,these provinces are chemically represented by two prevalent magma types:(1)tholeiitic basalts and basaltic andesites with lowTi(TiO_(2)cluding transitional Ti tholeiites with TiO_(2)~2.7-1.7 wt.%,and low incompatible element *** type is predominantly found in the southern PMP and EMP,with minor occurrences in the EQUAMP.(2)Tholeiitic basalts and basaltic andesites with high Ti(TiO_(2)>~2 wt.%)and incompatible element *** Ti tholeiites are relevant in the northern PMP and EMP,and dominant in *** rocks(SiO_(2)=57-65 wt.%)interpreted as byproducts of assimilation and/or fractional crystallization(AFc)processes from high Ti tholeiitic magmas,are scarce(but present)in all three *** accurate analysis of multivariable databases collected from the literature for dikes and sills,including maj.r and trace element and radiogenic isotope data,reveals close similarities in their geochemical *** a paleogeographic reconstruction of West Gondwana,the intrusive remnants of the PMP,EMP and EQUAMP are spread over an area of nearly 10×10^(6)km^(2).forming perhaps the most extensive set of plumbing systems on Earth,with a relatively consistent chronology based on a vast collection of K-Ar and^(40)Ar/^(39)Ar data available in the *** work provides the first c

In this paper, discontinuous Sturm-Liouville problems, which contain eigenvalue parameters both in the equation and in one of the boundary conditions, are investigated. By using an operatortheoretic interpretation we extend some classic results for regular Sturm-Liouville problems and obtain asymptotic approximate formulae for eigenvalues and normalized eigenfunctions. We modify some techniques of [Fulton, c. T., Proc. Roy. Soc. Edin. 77 （A）, 293-308 （1977）], [Walter, j., Math. Z., 133, 301-312 （1973）] and [Titchmarsh, E. c., Eigenfunctions Expansion Associated with Second Order Differential Equations I, 2nd edn., Oxford Univ. Pres, London, 1962], then by using these techniques we obtain asymptotic formulae for eigenelement norms and normalized eigenfunctions.

Mixture temperature prediction of waxy oil–water two-phase system flowing near wax appearance temperature

Temperature sensitivity of waxy crude oils makes it difficult to study their flow behaviour in the presence of water especially near their wax appearance temperature （WAT）. In this study a method was proposed and implemented to mitigate such difficulties which was applied in predicting mixture temperatures （Tin） of a typical Malaysian waxy crude oil and water flow in a horizontal pipe. To this end, two analytical models were derived firstly from calorimetry equation which based on developed two correlations for defining crude oil heat capacity actualized from the existed specific heat capacities of crude oils. The models were then applied for a set of experiments to reach the defined three predetermined Tm （26 ℃, 28 ℃ and 30 ℃）. The comparison between the predicted mixture temperatures （Tin,1 and Tin,2） from the two models and the experimental results displayed acceptable absolute average errors （0.80% 0.62%, 0.53% for model 1; 0,74%, 0.54%, 0.52% for model 2）. Moreover, the average errors for both models are in the range of standard error limits （4-0,75Z） according to ASTM E230. conclusively, the proposed model showed the ease of obtaining mixture temperatures close to WAT as predetermined with accuracy of ± 0.5 ℃approximately for over 84% of the examined cases. The method is seen as a practical reference point to further study the flow behaviour of waxy crudes in oil-water two-phase flow system near sensitive temperatures.

Al-based MIL-53 MOF nanostructure was synthesized hydrothermally and then co-deposited in the electroless nickel coating on AM60B magnesium alloy using Zr pretreatment as an eco-friendly *** MIL-53(Al)nanostructure was synthesized in the form of layered semi-cube crystals with the surface area and mean pore diameter of 985.72 m^(2)g^(-1) and 2.00 nm,*** SEM images captured with two various zooming scales from the surface of the plain and MOF containing electroless layers showed cauliflower-like morphology with even distribution of nodule ***,the sub-grains of the plain coating disappeared after incorporation of the ***,both the normal and nanostructure-containing electroless layers have crystalline-amorphous structure,but the nanocomposite coating showed less *** average surface roughness of the plain electroless coating was about 309 nm,which decreased to about 222 nm after incorporation of the *** XRD patterns showed that the characteristic peak of Ni broadened after incorporation of the MOF,probably due to the decreasing of the *** the heat-treated normal and MOF containing coatings at 200℃ no phase transition takes place,but new peaks appeared for heat-treated coatings at 400℃ due to the crystallization and second-phase *** results of the EIS tests showed an increase in the amount of the charge transfer resistance(from 19 to 29 kΩcm^(2))after addition of the MOF,which means an improvement in the corrosion ***,low j.orrof the composite coating represents its higher corrosion resistance with respect to the plain *** micro-hardness values of the composite coating before and after the heat treatment were higher than the plain ***,the Ni-P-MOF coating has a lower wear rate both before and after the heat treatment due to an improvement in its micro-hardness.

Influence of laser polarization on collective electron dynamics in ultraintense laser-foil interactions

The collective response of electrons in an ultrathin foil target irradiated by an ultraintense(~6×10^(20)W cm^(-2)) laser pulse is investigated experimentally and via 3D particle-in-cell simulations. It is shown that if the target is sufficiently thin that the laser induces significant radiation pressure, but not thin enough to become relativistically transparent to the laser light, the resulting relativistic electron beam is elliptical, with the maj.r axis of the ellipse directed along the laser polarization axis. When the target thickness is decreased such that it becomes relativistically transparent early in the interaction with the laser pulse, diffraction of the transmitted laser light occurs through a so called ‘relativistic plasma aperture', inducing structure in the spatial-intensity profile of the beam of energetic electrons. It is shown that the electron beam profile can be modified by variation of the target thickness and degree of ellipticity in the laser polarization.

The obj.ctives of the present study were to examine the spatial patterns of sward dry matter (DM) and nitrogen (N) yields in a grass silage field at first, second, and third cuts over a 3-year period; quantify their temporal stabilities with temporal stability maps; and assess the potential for site-specific management in each pasture-growing period using classified management maps. At cut 1, the spatial patterns of DM and N yields proved to be well defined and temporally stable and were likely to be due to differences in the net N mineralization rates across the field during spring. In contrast, at cut 2, the patterns of DM production were patchy and temporally unstable. It was concluded that, in principle, a simple site-specific approach to N fertilization would be possible in this field during spring at cut 1. At later harvests, the rationale for a site-specific approach to fertilizer management was less clear with logistics appearing to be more complex and less feasible.

In the present study,an analysis of the heat and mass transfer in a ventilated cavity in a warm climate zone was carried out to analyze,among others,the temperatures and percentage of relative humidity(RH).The governing equations of the mathematical model were solved through the finite volume *** used the k-εturbulence mode to find the results of the variables of interest in seven climate records on a given *** velocity of the inlet flow of the air-H2O mixture was varied through the Reynolds number(Re)from 500 to *** outdoor weather conditions considered were solar radiation,ambient temperature,and *** was found that at low velocities,flow recirculation was formed inside the cavity which increased the temperature and concentration of *** Re=5000 the flow is predominantly forced,which tends to set the values of temperature and RH as 20°c and 20%*** values of the RH increase in the afternoon hours when the solar radiation decreases to the value of ***,the mass transfer through the values of sh is maintained with similar values in the seven weather *** was concluded that when air conditioning supplies air at speeds higher than 0.26 m/s at low temperatures it produces cooling with low RH,this causes discomfort,illness and/or discomfort to the users.

Activated pancreatic stellate cells(PScs)have been widely accepted as a key precursor of excessive pancreatic fibrosis,which is a crucial hallmark of chronic pancreatitis(cP)and its formidable associated disease,pancreatic cancer(Pc).Hence,anti-fibrotic therapy has been identified as a novel therapeutic strategy for treating cP and Pc by targeting *** of the anti-fibrotic agents have been limited to phaseⅠ/Ⅱclinical trials involving vitamin analogs,which are abundant in medicinal plants and have proved to be promising for clinical *** use of phytomedicines,as new anti-fibrotic agents,has been applied to a variety of complementary and alternative *** aim of this review was to present a focused update on the selective new potential anti-fibrotic agents,including curcumin,resveratrol,rhein,emodin,green tea catechin derivatives,metformin,eruberin A,and ellagic acid,in combating PSc in cP and Pc *** aimed to describe the mechanism(s)of the phytochemicals used,either alone or in combination,and the associated molecular *** of them were tested in Pc models with similar mechanism of actions,and curcumin was tested *** research may explore the issues of bioavailability,drug design,and nano-formulation,in order to achieve successful clinical outcomes with promising activity and tolerability.

Home range variability and philopatry in cinereous vultures(Aegypius monachus)breeding in Iberia

Large scavengers are strongly dependent on environmental conditions and carrion distribution and abundance,so season and breeding-related factors may influence the spatial ecology of species such as the cinereous Vulture(Aegypius monachus),the largest European *** holds one of the biggest populations worldwide,but some aspects of the spatial ecology of the species in this region remain *** this study,17 adult cinereous Vultures were GPS-tracked in order to study their spatial ecology during the adult *** average monthly home ranges(95%Kernel Density Estimation,KDE)and core areas(50%KDE)were 6543±19,935 km^(2)and 1174±4004 km^(2),*** average monthly home range fidelity ranged between 50 and 73%.Differences in movement-related variables between the seasonal periods(incubation,chick-rearing and non-breeding)were *** the chick-rearing period,the monthly accumulated distance was higher than during the other periods:3316±1108(chick-rearing)vs.1621±622(incubation)vs.1726±1159 km per month(nonbreeding).Additionally,large home range sizes were more frequent during the chick-rearing *** are two likely causes for these seasonal ***,chick-rearing entails a higher energetic expenditure by the parental individuals in foraging activities,so larger movements and foraging areas are expected during this ***,the flight is favoured during spring and summer due to environmental *** chick-rearing and warm months is a great evolutionary advantage for soaring-gliding raptors,as it allows them to cover larger areas with low energy ***,six individuals tagged as nestlings highlight the philopatric behaviour of the species:vultures settle their breeding areas 54±51 km from their natal nest(range=9–138 km).
