Individual virome analysis reveals the general co-infection of mammal-associated viruses with SARS-related coronaviruses in bats

Bats are the natural reservoir hosts for SARS-related coronavirus(SARSr-CoV)and other highly pathogenic ***,it is conceivable that an individual bat may harbor multiple ***,there is limited knowledge on the overall co-circulation of microorganisms in ***,we conducted a 16-year monitoring of bat viruses in south and central China and identified 238 SARSr-CoV positive samples across nine bat species from ten provinces or administrative *** these,76 individual samples were selected for further metagenomics *** found a complex microenvironment characterized by the general cocirculation of microbes from two different sources:mammal-associated viruses or environment-associated *** later includes commensal bacteria,enterobacteria-related phages,and insect or fungal viruses of food *** showed that 25%(19/76)of the samples contained at least one another mammal-associated virus,notably alphacoronaviruses(13/76)such as AlphaCoV/YN2012,HKU2-related CoV and AlphaCoV/Rf-HuB2013,along with viruses from other ***,we observed three viruses co-circulating within a single bat,comprising two coronavirus species and one *** analysis also revealed the potential presence of pathogenic bacteria or fungi in ***,we obtained 25 viral genomes from the 76 bat SARSr-CoV positive samples,some of which formed new evolutionary ***,our study reveals the complex microenvironment of bat microbiome,facilitating deeper investigations into their pathogenic potential and the likelihood of cross-species transmission.

High-performance si/VO_(2)-nanorod heterojunction photodetector based on photothermoelectric effect for detecting human radiation

Enhanced red luminescence of Ca_(3)si_(2−x)M_(x)O_(7):Eu^(3+)(M=Al,P)phosphors via partial substitution of si^(4+) for applications in white light-emitting diodes

A red-emitting phosphor Ca_(2.91)si_(2)O_(7):0.09Eu^(3+) with partial Al^(3+)/P^(5+) substitution on si^(4+) was synthesized via a simple solid-state method,and the effects of the introduction of the M^(3+/5+)(M=Al,P)ions on the crystal structure and photoluminescence performance of Ca_(2.91)si_(2−x)M_(x)O_(7):0.09Eu^(3+) phosphors were *** X-ray diffraction(XRD),energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)results revealed that the structure of Ca_(3)si_(2)O_(7) remained the same after the introduction of Al^(3+) and P^(5+) *** characteristic emission of Eu^(3+)-doped Ca_(3)si_(2−x)M_(x)O_(7) phosphors exhibited two main peaks at 617 nm(red)and 593 nm(orange)under excitation at 394 nm,which originated from the^(5)D_(0)→^(7)F_(2)and^(5)D_(0)→^(7)F_(1) electron transitions of Eu^(3+) *** the partial substitution of Al^(3+) and P^(5+),the red emission intensities of the Ca_(2.91)si_(2)O_(7):0.09Eu^(3+) phosphors were significantly enhanced by 1.88-and 1.42-fold,respectively,which is attributed to the crystal-field effect around Eu^(3+).Meanwhile,the luminescence intensities of the Ca_(2.91)si_(1.96)Al_(0.04)O_(7):0.09Eu^(3+) and Ca_(2.91)si_(1.94)P_(0.06)O_(7):0.09Eu^(3+) phosphors at 210℃ were 79.36%and 77.53%of those at 30°C,respectively,indicating their excellent thermal ***,the as-prepared Ca_(2.91)si_(1.96)Al_(0.04)O_(7):0.09Eu^(3+)and Ca_(2.91)si_(1.94)P_(0.06)O_(7):0.09Eu^(3+) red-emitting phosphors were combined with a near-ultraviolet chip of 395 nm to fabricate red-light-emitting diode(LED)and white(w)-LED devices with excellent chromaticity *** summary,Al^(3+)/P^(5+)-substituted Ca_(2.91)si_(2)O_(7):0.09Eu^(3+) can serve as red-emitting phosphors for applications in w-LEDs.

Dear Editor,The ongoing COVID-19 disease,caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-Co V-2),has led to over 112 million confirmed cases and 2.4 million deaths in more than 220 countries as of 25 February 2021(WHO 2021).Hospital-admitted patients show clinical features including fever,dry cough,fatigue,dyspnea,lymphopenia,and pneumonia with radiological groundglass lung opacities(Huang et al.2020;Guan et al.2020).SARS-Co V-2 was quickly isolated and could be detected in clinical samples,such as nasopharyngeal swabs,sputum,alveolar lavage fluid,and feces,as well as occasionally in seminal fluid and tears among other sources(Bhat et al.2020;Li et al.2020),which means that it can infect a variety of human tissues and organs.

Characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 transmission in a medium-sized city with traditional communities during the early COVID-19 epidemic in China

The nationwide COVID-19 epidemic ended in 2020, a few months after its outbreak in Wuhan, China at the end of2019. Most COVID-19 cases occurred in Hubei Province, with a few local outbreaks in other provinces of China. A few studies have reported the early SARS-Co V-2 epidemics in several large cities or provinces of China. However,information regarding the early epidemics in small and medium-sized cities, where there are still traditionally large families and community culture is more strongly maintained and thus, transmission profiles may differ, is limited. In this study, we characterized 60 newly sequenced SARS-Co V-2 genomes from Anyang as a representative of small and medium-sized Chinese cities, compared them with more than 400 reference genomes from the early outbreak, and studied the SARS-Co V-2 transmission profiles. Genomic epidemiology revealed multiple SARS-Co V-2 introductions in Anyang and a large-scale expansion of the epidemic because of the large family ***, our study revealed two transmission patterns in a single outbreak, which were attributed to different social activities. We observed the complete dynamic process of single-nucleotide polymorphism development during community transmission and found that intrahost variant analysis was an effective approach to studying cluster infections. In summary, our study provided new SARS-Co V-2 transmission profiles representative of small and medium-sized Chinese cities as well as information on the evolution of SARS-Co V-2 strains during the early COVID-19 epidemic in China.

Origin and tectonic setting of low-si alkaline magma

Despite of the relatively rare occurrence of alkaline igneous rocks on Earth, they are the most diverse group of igneous rocks due to variations in their mineral assemblages and geochemical compositions. Alkaline igneous rocks are generally characterized by si undersaturation, and K-Na(and in some cases C) enrichment. Although there is no unified alkaline igneous rock classification scheme, diagrams such as total alkalis-siO_(2) or K_(2)O-siO_(2) can be used to classify alkaline igneous rocks. The origins of silica-saturated alkaline rocks(siO_(2)>52 wt.%) are relatively complex because multiple episodes of magmatism are often involved, therefore most studies have focused on the origins of silica-undersaturated alkaline *** experimental petrological studies have been conducted in the past few decades. Initially, it was considered that enrichment of trace elements was only achieved by low-degree partial melting of mantle peridotite, but the experimental melts could not reproduce the geochemical composition of natural alkaline igneous rocks. Subsequent studies have focused on carbonate-bearing eclogites that represent the average component of subducted oceanic crust. Although experimental studies indicate that silica-undersaturated and alkali-oversaturated melts can be generated from eclogites, some studies have considered that natural silica-undersaturated alkaline igneous rocks are the result of multi-stage source enrichment by incompatible elements. Low-degree partial melts of the mantle can be emplaced in the lithospheric mantle, forming veins consisting of phlogopite, amphibole, and pyroxene. Melting experiments including these components show that the produced melts better reproduce the naturally occurring silica-undersaturated alkaline magmas. silica-deficient alkaline igneous rocks occur in various tectonic settings.
