Absence of high amplitude propagating contractions in subjects with chronic spinal cord injury

AIM: To investigate the presence or absence of high amplitude propagating contractions (HAPC), as well as the other measures of colonic motility, in persons with spinal cord injury (SCI). METHODS: Prolonged colonic ambulatory manometric studies were performed on 14 male volunteers: 8 with SCI (mean age, 59 ± 13 years; mean duration of injury, 13 ± 4 years) and 6 healthy able-bodied controls (mean age, 57 ± 10 years). A solid-state manometry catheter was endoscopically clipped to the splenic flexure. recording was performed for > 24 h after manometric catheter placement. rESULTS: HAPC were absent in individuals with SCI during pre-sleep, sleep, and post-sleep phases. HAPC were significantly increased after awakening in non-SCI controls (0.8 ± 0.2 HAPC/h vs 10.5 ± 2.0 HAPC/h, P r in those with SCI than in controls preand post-sleep (SCI vs non-SCI: Pre-sleep, 2.4 ± 0.4 vs 8.8 ± 1.9, P r, a sleepinduced depression of colonic motility was observed in both the SCI and non-SCI groups (Pre-sleep vs Sleep, non-SCI: 8.8 ± 1.9 vs 2.1 ± 0.9, P ring sleep not significantly different than that of the controls. CONCLUSION: HAPC were not observed in individuals with SCI preor post-sleep. A sleep-induced depression in general colonic motility was evident in SCI and control subjects.

Exploring the influences of education,intelligence and income on mental disorders

Background Previous studies have shown that educational attainment(EA),intelligence and income are key factors associated with mental ***,the direct effects of each factor on major mental disorders are *** We aimed to evaluate the overall and independent causal effects of the three psychosocial factors on common mental *** Using genome-wide association study summary datasets,we performed Mendelian randomisation(Mr)and multivariable Mr(MVMr)analyses to assess potential associations between the 3 factors(EA,N=766345;household income,N=392422;intelligence,N=146808)and 13 common mental disorders,with sample sizes ranging from 9907 to ***-variance weighting was employed as the main method in the Mr *** Our Mr analysis showed that(1)higher EA was a protective factor for eight mental disorders but contributed to anorexia nervosa,obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD),bipolar disorder(BD)and autism spectrum disorder(ASD);(2)higher intelligence was a protective factor for five mental disorders but a risk factor for OCD and ASD;(3)higher household income protected against 10 mental disorders but confers risk for anorexia *** MVMr analysis showed that(1)higher EA was a direct protective factor for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder(ADHD)and insomnia but a direct risk factor for schizophrenia,BD and ASD;(2)higher intelligence was a direct protective factor for schizophrenia but a direct risk factor for major depressive disorder(MDD)and ASD;(3)higher income was a direct protective factor for seven mental disorders,including schizophrenia,BD,MDD,ASD,post-traumatic stress disorder,ADHD and anxiety *** Our study reveals that education,intelligence and income intertwine with each *** each factor,its independent effects on mental disorders present a more complex picture than its overall effects.

Most studies of series system assume the causes of failure are independent,which may not hold in *** this paper,dependent causes of failure are considered by using a Marshall-Olkin bivariateWeibull *** derived four reference priors based on several grouping *** sampling combined with the rejection sampling algorithm and Metropolis-Hastings algorithm is developed to obtain the estimates of the unknown *** proposed approach is compared with the maximum-likelihood method via *** find that the root-meansquared errors of the Bayesian estimates are much smaller for the case of small sample size,and that the coverage probabilities of the Bayesian estimates are much closer to the nominal ***,a real data-set is analysed for illustration.

Shared genetics and bidirectional causal relationships between type 2 diabetes and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder

Background Type 2 diabetes(T2D)is a chronic metabolic disorder with high comorbidity with mental *** genetic links between attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder(ADHD)and T2D have yet to be *** We aim to assess shared genetics and potential associations between ADHD and *** We performed genetic correlation,two-sample Mendelian randomisation and polygenic overlap analyses between ADHD and *** genome-wide association study(GWAS)summary results of T2D(80154 cases and 853816 controls),ADHD2019(20183 cases and 35191 controls from the 2019 GWAS ADHD dataset)and ADHD2022(38691 cases and 275986 controls from the 2022 GWAS ADHD dataset)were used for the *** T2D dataset was obtained from the DIAGrAM *** ADHD datasets were obtained from the Psychiatric Genomics *** compared genome-wide association signals to reveal shared genetic variation between T2D and ADHD using the larger ADHD2022 ***,molecular pathways were constructed based on large-scale literature data to understand the connection between ADHD and *** T2D has positive genetic correlations with ADHD2019(rg=0.33)and ADHD2022(rg=0.31).Genetic liability to ADHD2019 was associated with an increased risk for T2D(odds ratio(Or):1.30,pr:1.30,p=0.086).Genetic liability to T2D was associated with a higher risk for ADHD2019(Or:1.05,p=0.001)and ADHD2022(Or:1.03,prlap analysis showed that most causal variants of T2D are shared with ADHD2022.T2D and ADHD2022 have three overlapping *** pathway analysis suggests that ADHD and T2D could promote the risk of each other through inflammatory *** Our study demonstrates substantial shared genetics and bidirectional causal associations between ADHD and T2D.

In engineering practice,it is often necessary to determine functional relationships between dependent and independent *** relationships can be highly nonlinear,and classical regression approaches cannot always provide sufficiently reliable ***,Machine Learning(ML)techniques,which offer advanced regression tools to address complicated engineering issues,have been developed and widely *** study investigates the selected ML techniques to evaluate their suitability for application in the hot deformation behavior of metallic *** ML-based regression methods of Artificial Neural Networks(ANNs),Support Vector Machine(SVM),Decision Tree regression(DTr),and Gaussian Process regression(GPr)are applied to mathematically describe hot flow stress curve datasets acquired experimentally for a medium-carbon *** the GPr method has not been used for such a regression task before,the results showed that its performance is the most favorable and practically unrivaled;neither the ANN method nor the other studied ML techniques provide such precise results of the solved regression analysis.

Interest in transactive energy frameworks(TEFs)is proliferating due to the modern smart grid *** paper proposes a TEF,which applies auction-theory,incorporates a system of agents,and facilitates a transactive energy market(TEM)through an ***,it also enables peer-to-peer(P2P)energy trading among the residential buildings in community microgrid for possible monetary *** this framework,there are three agents,namely,auctioneer,participants,and *** auctioneer is a managing agent modeled using auction theory to determine day-ahead internal market-clearing price and *** participants are autonomous and rational decision-makers;they aim to minimize their electricity bills through the demand response(Dr)*** types of architectures,one with the third-party agent demonstrated using the MATLAB environment and the other with the virtual agent(without third-party)implemented using the blockchain environment are *** simulation results reflect significant monetary benefits to each market participant,improved community selfsufficiency,self-consumption,and reduced reliance on the utility grid.

Causal associations between major depressive disorder and COVID-19

Background We aimed to evaluate whether major depressive disorder(MDD)could aggravate the outcomes of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)or whether the genetic liability to COVID-19 could trigger *** We aimed to assess bidirectional causal associations between MDD and *** We performed genetic correlation and Mendelian randomisation(Mr)analyses to assess potential associations between MDD and three COVID-19 ***-based network analysis was conducted to construct molecular pathways connecting MDD and *** We found that MDD has positive genetic correlations with COVID-19 outcomes(rg:0.10–0.15).Our Mr analysis indicated that genetic liability to MDD is associated with increased risks of COVID-19 infection(odds ratio(Or)=1.05,95%confidence interval(CI):1.00 to 1.10,p=0.039).However,genetic liability to the three COVID-19 outcomes did not confer any causal effects on *** analysis identified a panel of immunity-related genes that may mediate the links between MDD and *** Our study suggests that MDD may increase the susceptibility to *** findings emphasise the need to increase social support and improve mental health intervention networks for people with mood disorders during the pandemic.

In this paper, a zero-and-one-inflated Poisson (ZOIP) model is studied. The maximum likelihoodestimation and the Bayesian estimation of the model parameters are obtained based on dataaugmentation method. A simulation study based on proposed sampling algorithm is conductedto assess the performance of the proposed estimation for various sample sizes. Finally, two realdata-sets are analysed to illustrate the practicability of the proposed method.
