The shoulder complex presents unique challenges for measuring motion as the scapula,unlike any other bony segment in the body,glides and rotates underneath layers of soft tissue and *** ability for clinicians and researchers to collect meaningful kinematic data is dependent on the reliability and validity of the instrumentation *** aim of this study was to review the relevant literature pertaining to the reliability and validity of electromagnetic tracking systems(ETs) and digital inclinometers for assessing shoulder complex *** in technology have led to the development of biomechanical instrumentation,like ETs,that allow for the collection of threedimensional kinematic *** existing evidence has demonstrated that ETs are reliable and valid instruments for collecting static and dynamic kinematic data of the shoulder ***,digital inclinometers have become increasingly popular among clinicians due to their cost effectiveness and practical use in the clinical *** existing evidence supports the use of digital inclinometers for the collection of shoulder complex kinematics as these instruments have been demonstrated to yield acceptable reliability and *** digital inclinometers pose a disadvantage to ETs regarding accuracy,precision,and are limited to twodimensional and static measurements,this instrument provides clinically meaningful data that allow clinicians and researchers the ability to measure,monitor,and compare shoulder complex kinematics.

Cu (I) catalyzed alkyne-azide cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction,a typical "click" reaction,is one of the modular synthetic approaches which has been broadly used in various organic syntheses,medicinal chemistry,materials development and bioconjugation *** have for the first time synthesized two dialkyne derivatized fluorescent crosslinkers which could be applied to crosslink two biomolecules using CuAAC *** yellow mosaic virus,a plant virus with unique structural and chemical properties,was used as a prototypical scaffold to form a 2D single layer at the interface of two immiscible liquids and crosslinked with these two linkers by the CuAAC *** crosslinking,the fluorescence of both linkers diminished,likely due to the distortion of the polymethylene backbone,which therefore could be used to indicate the completion of the reaction.

sensitivity analysis （sA） is a critical part of modeling any biological system due to the inherent uncertainty in model output, as introduced by parameter values that have not been experimentally determined. sA therefore provides deeper understanding of the system by painting a picture of the extent to which certain model outputs vary in rela- tionship to changes in model parameters. Here we explore two types of global sA for recently developed models of nascent focal adhesion formation, a key step in cellular movement. While many sA methods have been used for deterministic methods, we uti- lize methods for both stochastic and deterministic models, providing a more complete description of the parameters to which the focal adhesion model is most sensitive. spe- cific recommendations for further experimentation in the process of cellular motility are proposed in response to the sA.

It is believed that human ancestors evolved the ability to run bipedally approximately 2 million years ago. This form of locomotion may have been important to our survival and likely has influenced the evolution of our body form. As our bodies have adapted to run, it seems unusual that up to 79% of modern day runners are injured annually. The etiology of these injuries is clearly multifactorial. However, 1 aspect of running that has significantly changed over the past 50 years is the footwear we use. Modern running shoes have become increasingly cushioned and supportive, and have changed the way we run. In particular, they have altered our footstrike pattern from a predominantly forefoot strike(FFs) landing to a predominantly rearfoot strike(RFs) landing. This change alters the way in which the body is loaded and may be contributing to the high rate of injuries runners experience while engaged in an activity for which they were adapted. In this paper, we will examine the benefits of barefoot running(typically an FFs pattern),and compare the lower extremity mechanics between FFs and RFs. The implications of these mechanical differences, in terms of injury, will be discussed. We will then provide evidence to support our contention that FFs provides an optimal mechanical environment for specific foot and ankle structures, such as the heel pad, the plantar fascia, and the Achilles tendon. The importance of footwear will then be addressed, highlighting its interaction with strike pattern on mechanics. This analysis will underscore why footwear matters when assessing mechanics. Finally, proper preparation and safe transition to an FFs pattern in minimal shoes will be emphasized. Through the discussion of the current literature, we will develop a justification for returning to running in the way for which we were adapted to reduce running-related injuries.

Cullin 4A(CUL4A)is an E3 ubiquitin ligase that directly affects DNA repair and cell cycle progression by targeting substrates including damage-specific DNA-binding protein 2(DDB2),xeroderma pigmentosum complementation group C(XPC),chromatin licensing and DNA replication factor 1(Cdt1),and *** work from our laboratory has shown that Cul4a-deficient mice have greatly reduced rates of ultraviolet-induced skin *** a cellular level,Cul4a-deficient cells have great capacity for DNA repair and demonstrate a slow rate of proliferation due primarily to increased expression of DDB2 and p21,*** suggests that CUL4A promotes tumorigenesis(as well as accumulation of skin damage and subsequent premature aging)by limiting DNA repair activity and expediting s phase *** addition,CUL4A has been found to be up-regulated via gene amplification or overexpression in breast cancers,hepatocellular carcinomas,squamous cell carcinomas,adrenocortical carcinomas,childhood medulloblastomas,and malignant pleural *** of its oncogenic activity in skin cancer and up-regulation in other malignancies,CUL4A has arisen as a potential candidate for targeted therapeutic *** this review,we outline the established functions of CUL4A and discuss the E3ligase’s emergence as a potential driver of tumorigenesis.

Indoor Air Quality(IAQ)has been an area of growing concern with the increasing knowledge of health hazards associated with contaminants,particularly in high occupancy buildings where residents may be exposed to high levels of nuisance dust and other *** and Energy in Environmental Design(LEED®)certification,which is awarded to buildings that prioritize sustainability and efficient resource use,has been increasingly sought in new *** LEED-certified buildings become more commonplace,it is worthwhile to consider whether these new building practices improve IAQ for its *** study compares particulate matter(PM)concentrations in 12 LEED-certified buildings to 12 analogous non-LEED certified buildings on the University of Utah ***-time air sampling was conducted in each building for PM measurements and a Wilcoxon signed rank test was conducted to compare PM levels.A statistically significant difference was found between LEED certification and PM concentrations,with LEED-certified buildings containing,on average,approximately half the PM of their non-LEED *** findings suggest that LEED certification is worth the financial investment,as it may lead to improved IAQ for ***,further research on other contaminants is warranted,including the characterization and comparison of formaldehyde and carbon dioxide levels.

some of the most promising potential applications of nanotechnology to hydraulic fracturing of coal seam gas(CsG)are reviewed with a focus on Australian CsG *** propitious applications were identifed:(1)Nanoparticle enhanced viscoelastic surfactants(VEs)fracturing fuids to prevent fuid loss by up to 30%,made possible by the formation of pseudo-flter cakes and reducing the viscosity of the VEs ***,there is no requirement of clay control additives or biocides.(2)Nano-proppants to extend fracture networks and reduce proppant embedment by introducing them prior to the emplacement of larger *** Ash nanoparticles can be particularly efective because of their high sphericity and mechanical strength.(3)Nanoparticle-coated proppants,to mitigate the migration of particle fnes by restricting them close to their source by adsorption,with MgO being the most *** use of nanotechnology in hydraulic fracturing applications is currently hindered due to a discordant regulatory environment compounded by the cost of the nanoparticles themselves,as well as,a lack of feld data to validate the technology under real downhole *** the necessary feld tests are unlikely to be conducted for as long as abundant natural gas is available,exploratory studies could pave the way for future applications.
