Dietary supplementation of some antioxidants against hypoxia

The present study aims to clarify the protective effect of supplementation with some antioxidants,such as idebenone(200 mg/kg,ip),melatonin(10 mg/kg,ip) and arginine(200 mg/kg,ip) and their combination,on liver function(***,albumin,alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase),energetic parameters(adenosine triphosphate,adenosine diphosphate,adenosine monophosphate,inorganic phosphate,total adenylate,adenylate energy charge and potential phosphate).The effect on glycolytic and glycogenolytic enzymes(glucose,glycogen,glycogen phosphorylase,pyruvate kinase and phosphofructokinase against hypoxia) was also *** drugs were administered 24 and 1 h prior sodium nitrite *** biochemical parameters were estimated 1 h after sodium nitrite *** of sodium nitrite(75 mg/kg,sc) produced a significant disturbance in all biochemical parameters of liver function,energetic parameters and glycolytic and glycogenolytic *** damage was confirmed by histopathological examination of the liver as compared to *** marked changes in hepatic cells induced by sodium nitrite were completely abolished by pretreatment with the drug combination,suggesting potential protection against sodium nitrite-induced *** could be concluded that a combination of both idebenone and melatonin or idebenone and arginine provides potential protection against sodium nitrite-induced hypoxia by improving biochemical parameters and preserving liver histology.

Multi-Attribute Selection Procedures Based on Regret and Rejoice for the Decision-Maker

Feelings influence human beings’decision-making;therefore,incorporation of feeling factors in decision-making is very *** and rejoice are very important emotional feelings that can have a great impact on decision-making if they are considered *** regret has received most of the attention in related research,rejoice has been less considered even though it can greatly influence people’s preferences in ***,systematically incorporating regret and rejoice in the multicriteria decision-making(MCDM)modeling frameworks for decision-making has received little research *** this paper,we introduce a new multiattribute selection procedure that incorporates both regret and rejoice to select the best *** utilize the positional advantage operator concept to develop regret and rejoice mathematical equations,and prove *** proposed MCDM procedure that incorporates these two emotional factors offers a decision-maker the flexibility to trade off some benefits in order to gain a state of psychological *** specifically,regret and rejoice are presentedmathematically to enable the decision-maker to determine the values of regret and rejoice,and then make the decision in which the rejoice value is higher than the regret *** test the performance of this new procedure,we apply it to three numerical examples proposed in previous *** results are matched with those obtained by other methods such as the regret model,VIKOR,PROMETHEE I,and PROMETHEE II,thereby proving the efficacy of the new procedure.

Utilization of bromine azide to access vicinal-azidobromides from arylidene malononitrile

An efficient and facile approach for tetrachlorosilane as an in situ mediated transformation via a one-pot, synthesis of vicinal bromoazides through the generation of BrN3 from azidochlorosilane and N-bromosuccinimide in acetonitrile as solvent at ambient temperature is achieved. This catalytic process represents a highly regioselective and high yielding method for the synthesis of 1,2- bromoazides. Thiamine pyrophosphate （TPP） riboswitches regulate essential genes in bacteria by changing conformation upon binding intracellular TPP. Molecular docking studies are conducted to understand the orientation and the interaction of each synthesized molecules with TPP riboswitches, 2016 Chinese Chemical Society and Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academv of Medical Sciences.

Pathological,immunohistochemical and microbiologicalal analysis of lacrimal sac biopsies in patients with chronic dacrocystitis

AIM:To analyze cases of obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct which creates a fertile environment for secondary bacterial Infection and can result in dacryocystitis,which is a constant threat to cornea and orbital soft tissue and a potential source of endophthalmitis following intraocular *** majority of obstructions of the lacrimal excretory outflow system are acquired ones occurring in adulthood and involving the distal parts of the *** obstruction may be primary/idiopathic or secondary to a wide variety of infectious,inflammatory,traumatic,mechanical,toxic or neoplastic causes mimicking idiopathic *** cases are treated by dacryocystorhinostomy(DCR).METHODS:The present study was conducted to determine the histopathologic,immunohistochemical and current microbiologic characteristics of lacrimal sac specimens in patients undergoing external ***:Non-specific lacrimal sac pathology was present in all 33 cases and 81.8%of the cases showed moderate chronic inflammation with a chronic inflammatory score(CIS)ranging between 4 and 6,whereas 12.12%showed severe inflammatory changes with a CIS of *** degree of inflammation was seen in6.06%with a CIS of *** total prevalence of grampositive,gram-negative,and culture-negative samples were 59.4%,37.5%,and 3%***:Non-specific chronic inflammation withfibrosis is indeed the most commonly reported histopathological finding in lacrimal sac wall biopsy specimens.

Does local vaginal estrogen after tension-free transobturator vaginal tape reduce overactive bladder symptoms in postmenopausal women? A prospective randomized, controlled study

Objective:We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of topical estrogen after transvaginal tension-free vaginal tape-obturator(TVT-O)in the treatment of de novo overactive bladder symptoms that appear after ***:This is a prospective randomized controlled study performed in the Urology and Gynecology Departments,Kasr Al Ainy Hospital,Cairo University,Cairo,*** hundred and ten postmenopausal females presenting during the period between January 2017 and November 2020 with stress urinary incontinence were included in the *** were divided into two groups,105 patients in Group A(treatment group)and 105 patients in Group B(control group).Patients in Group A underwent transvaginal TVT-O followed by local vaginal estrogen treatment for 6 months,while patients in Group B underwent transvaginal TVT-O *** study included any postmenopausal female with urodynamic stress urinary *** patients had to fulfill a 3-day bladder diary,overactive bladder symptoms score,urine analysis,urodynamic study,and post-voiding residual urine measurement by abdominal ultrasound preoperatively and at 3-month and 6-month ***:At 6-month follow-up,daytime frequency was reduced to 8%in Group A(increased to 21%in Group B)with a statistically significant difference between both groups(p=0.009).At 6-month follow-up,nocturia was 8%in Group A(11%in Group B)with no statistically significant difference between both groups(p=0.469).There was a statistically significant difference between both groups as regards to urinary urgency at 6-month follow-up(p=0.024).There was a statistically significant difference in postoperative wound healing events as regards to cure,hyperemia,gapping,and wound infection 1 week after intervention between both groups(p=0.008).No local or systemic side-effects were reported from local estrogen ***:Local vaginal estrogen treatment given to postmenopausal patients after midurethral sling procedures can reduce the symptoms o

Utilization of Rhizome (Alpinia galangal L.) in Improvement of Some Quality Attributes of Some Processed Meat

Rhizome Galangal (Alpinia galanga L.) is considered a natural source of fiber, minerals and natural antioxidant compounds. This research was performed to study. The effect of adding galangal powder in different proportions (1.5, 2.5, and 3.5 gm.). Also, the effect of adding galangal extract (5%, 10% and 15%) in proportions from the total formula of beef burger patties on chemical, physiochemical, microbiological and sensory characteristics of beef burger patties during the frozen storage period at -18°C ± 2°C up to 6 months. The obtained results showed that galangal contained crude fibers (14.00%), Moisture (5.43%), K (1108.13 ppm), Mg (970 ppm), P (729.21 ppm) and Ca (370.81 ppm), while Fe (58.53 ppm) and Na (33.74 ppm) as macro and micro elements. The percent of antioxidants was about (92.60%), phenols (123.81 mg/g) and flavonoids were about (109.77 mg/g) was higher in galangal extract than galangal powder, which was recorded in its antioxidants (72.95%), phenolic (47.66 mg/g) and flavonoids (34.02 mg/g), as well as the improvement of physiochemical quality criteria (pH, protein and TBA values) throughout frozen storage in comparison with the control sample. In addition, galangal inhibited the growth and activity of microbial oxidation in tested prepared product. Also, beef burger patties containing the galangal exhibited a good sensory property and palatable, especially those containing (2.5 and 3.5 g) galangal powder and (10% and 15%) galangal extract, even after storage for 6 months under frozen conditions. The present results are useful for using galangal in the fortification of some meat products to improve nutritionally and healthy safe.

Executive Functions Assessment in Adult Patients with Idiopathic Epilepsy

Objective: Cognitive impairments are common complaints among people with epilepsy with its occurrence to emanate a great topic in the course of the illness, so our study aimed to examine the executive functions in adult patients with idiopathic epilepsy. Methods: Forty consecutive adult patients with idiopathic epilepsy (either generalized or focal) with age range from 18 - 45 years old, IQ > 85, treated with either monotherapy or polytherapy, matched with forty healthy adult volunteers by age, sex and educational level. They were examined in executive functions tests: cognitive flexibility and set shifting (Wisconsin Card sorting Test), Planning (Tower of London), response inhibition (Continuous Performance Test) and working memory (verbal and visuospatial). Results: Patients with epilepsy showed deficits in all executive functions tests, with no difference between patients with generalized and focal epilepsy except for correct response time mean in CPT. There was significant positive correlation between frequency of seizures and mean total time, mean number of extra movies in TOL, in verbal working memory (digit back word), and omission errors in CPT;at the same time there was significant negative correlation between target accuracy rate and frequency of seizures in CPT, and in visuo-spatial part of working memory (Corsi Block-Tapping Test). Conclusion: Adult patients with idiopathic epilepsy had executive dysfunctions than healthy control, with no difference between generalized and focal epilepsy except for correct response time mean in CPT;the increase of the frequency of seizure is associated with impairment in planning, attention and working memory (either verbal or viuso-spatial).

Maternal Cosmetics and the Risk of Autism: A Case-Control Pilot Study

Background: There has been much debate and inquiry surrounding the nature of the increase in prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). There are many environmental risk factors that have been postulated to be associated with the development of ASD. Cosmetic products are widely used in daily life. The aim of this study was to clarify whether maternal cosmetics usage is a risk factor of ASD. Patients and Methods: The present work was a cross sectional case-control study. Fifty eight mothers with children, who have been diagnosed with ASD by meeting the DMS-5 criteria, were compared with 49 mothers with neurotypical children. The mothers were asked to complete a short questionnaire comprised their use of cosmetics outside of pregnancy and changes in use during pregnancy. Results: No statistically significant difference was found between cases and controls as regard the overall usage of cosmetics. Indoors usage of makeup was significantly higher among mothers with autistic children than mothers of controls (p = 0.36). The duration of cosmetics usage was significantly higher among the mothers of controls than mothers with autistic children (p = 0.011). Eyes and lips makeup were the most frequent of makeup type among mothers with autistic children and controls while hair protein or keratin were the least frequent of makeup type among both groups. The number of women who reported the usage of lips makeup was significantly higher among the mothers of controls than those with autistic children (p = 0.024). The number of mothers with autistic children who reported “no change” as regard the usage pattern during pregnancy was significantly higher than those of the controls (p = 0.042). Conclusions: According to our results, cosmetics could not be considered as a risk factor for ASD. Further understanding of this issue requires future studies with different designs.
