Investigating Factors Influencing the Stability of Enteral Nutritional Emulsions Designed for Cancer Patients

Objective A commercially available reference product was“re-engineered”and the target emulsion was formulated to contain the same energy density,as well as the same percentage of energy sources,as the reference *** particle size and distribution,polydispersity index(PDI),and zeta-potential of emulsions were measured as indices to analyse the quality of the *** The centrifugal stability(Ke)was examined as the main measure of the stability of the target *** parameters affecting the stability of emulsions were also determined,while the temperature was fixed at 30℃,shear speed at 3500 r/min,and shear time was 15 *** optimal quantity of emulsifier was also studied in the crude *** A relatively stable emulsion could be obtained by using PC-50 at a dosage of 2%as the emulsifier.A 2∶1 proportion of whey protein to casein,a 1∶1 proportion of maltodextrin(DE 10-15)to maltodextrin(DE 15-20)and medium chain triglyceride(MCT)in powder form were used to obtain the most desirable *** This study explored the critical parameters that influence the stability of a total nutrition enteral emulsion designed for cancer patients,providing useful information for further industrialisation of this and other emulsion products.

Bioinspired flexible,high-strength,and versatile hydrogel with the fiberboard-and-mortar hierarchically ordered structure

The synthetic hydrogels with high water contents are promising for various applications,however,they usually exhibit low mechanical *** this work,inspired by the natural biological soft tissues,whose hierarchically ordered fibrous structures result in high strength and good flexibility,a flexible,high-strength,and versatile hydrogel with the fiberboard-and-mortar hierarchically ordered structure(HFMOS)is developed based on ultralong hydroxyapatite(HAP)nanowires and polyacrylic acid(PAA).The as-prepared HFMOS hydrogel has a high water content(~70 wt.%),dense structure,and excellent mechanical properties,and these properties are similar to those of the human cartilage and are superior to many hydrogels reported in the *** excellent mechanical properties of the HFMOS hydrogel originate from the combination of the fiberboard-and-mortar hierarchically ordered structure,reinforcement of ultralong HAP nanowires,strong interfacial strength,and multiple energy dissipation ***,thanks to the controllable components and injection procedure,the HFMOS hydrogel with a Janus structure is prepared for particular *** HFMOS hydrogel possesses abundant ordered water channels,and can be used for loading,release,and directed delivery of various functional ***,the as-prepared flexible,high-strength,and versatile HFMOS hydrogel possesses a great potential for various applications such as water purification,pollution treatment,biomedicine,nanofluidic devices,and high-performance structural materials.

Mapping Seismic Hazard for Canadian Sites Using Spatially Smoothed Seismicity Model

Microstructure and Elevated Temperature Tensile Behavior of Directionally Solidified Ni-rich NiAl-Mo(Hf) Alloy

The microstructure, high strain rate superplasticity and tensile creep behavior of directionally solidified （DS） NiAI-Mo（Hf） alloy have been investigated. The alloy exhibits dendritic structure, where dendritic arm is NiAI phase, interdendritic region is Ni3AI phase, and Mo-rich phase distributes in the NiAI and Ni3AI phases. The alloy exhibits high strain rate superplastic deformation behavior, and the maximum elongation is 104.2% at 1373 K and strain rate of 1.04xi0-2 s-I. The balance between strain hardening （by dislocation glide） and strain softening （by dynamic recovery and recrystallization） is responsible for the superplastic deformation. All the creep curves of the DS NiAI-Mo（Hf） alloy have similar shape of a short primary creep and dominant steady creep stages, and the creep strain is great. The possible creep deformation mechanism was also discussed. The creep fracture data follow the Monkman-Grant relationship.

Generation of Interstellar Class Ⅱ 7_2-8_1A^+ and 7_2-8_1A^-Methanol Masers

New methanol maser lines at 72 → 63A^-（86.6 GHz） and 72 → 63A^＋（86.9 GHz） together with two candidate methanol maser lines at 72 → 81A-（80.99GHz） and 72→81A^＋（111.29GHz） have been detected in W3（OH）. We use a pumping mechanism, i.e., methanol masers without population inversion, to explain the formation of weak methanol masers of 72 → 81A^＋ and 72→ 81A^-. We explain well why the line-shape of the transition 72 → 81A^＋ is not typical. A similar argument can be applied to the A-type level system 72A^-, 63A^- and 81A^-, as well as to the 72 → 81A^- 80.99 GHz masers.

Direct Perturbation Method for Derivative Nonlinear Schrdinger Equation

We extend Lou＇s direct perturbation method for solving the nonlinear Schrodinger equation to the case of the derivative nonlinear Schrodinger equation （DNLSE）. By applying this method, different types of perturbation solutions are obtained. Based on these approximate solutions, the analytical forms of soliton parameters, such as the velocity, the width and the initial position, are carried out and the effects of perturbation on solitons are analyzed at the same time. A numerical simulation of perturbed DNLSE finally verifies the results of the perturbation method.

A novel method of constructing high-dimensional digital chaotic systems on finite-state automata

When chaotic systems are implemented on finite precision machines, it will lead to the problem of dynamical degradation. Aiming at this problem, most previous related works have been proposed to improve the dynamical degradation of low-dimensional chaotic maps. This paper presents a novel method to construct high-dimensional digital chaotic systems in the domain of finite computing precision. The model is proposed by coupling a high-dimensional digital system with a continuous chaotic system. A rigorous proof is given that the controlled digital system is chaotic in the sense of Devaney's definition of chaos. Numerical experimental results for different high-dimensional digital systems indicate that the proposed method can overcome the degradation problem and construct high-dimensional digital chaos with complicated dynamical properties. Based on the construction method, a kind of pseudorandom number generator (PRNG) is also proposed as an application.

Remediation of nutrient-rich waters using the terrestrial plant, Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb.

Effective control of eutrophication is generally established through the reduction of nutrient loading into waterways and water bodies. An economically viable and ecologically sustainable approach to nutrient pollution control could involve the integration of retention ponds, wetlands and greenways into water management systems. Plants not only play an invaluable role in the assimilation and removal of nutrients, but they also support fauna richness and can be aesthetically pleasing. Pandanus amaryllifolius, a tropical terrestrial plant, was found to establish well in hydrophytic conditions and was highly effective in remediating high nutrient levels in an aquatic environment showing 100% removal of NO^-N up to 200 mg/L in 14 days. Phosphate uptake by the plant was less efficient with 64% of the PO4-P removed at the maximum concentration of 100 mg/L at the end of 6 weeks. With its high NO^-N and PO43--P removal efficiency, P. amaryllifolius depleted the nutrient-rich media and markedly contained the natural colonization of algae. The impediment of algal growth led to improvements in the water quality with significant decreases in turbidity, pH and electrical conductivity. In addition, the plants did not show stress symptoms when grown in high nutrient levels as shown by the changes in their biomass, total soluble proteins and chlorophyll accumulation as well as photochemical efficiency. Thus, P. amaryUifolius is a potential candidate for the mitigation of nutrient pollution in phytoremediation systems in the tropics as the plant requires low maintenance, is tolerant to the natural variability of weather conditions and fluctuating hydro-periods, and exhibit good nutrient removal capabilities.
