BACKGROUND The majority of published reports on foreign bodies(FBs)involve the rectum and applied a transanal ***,patients with FB above the rectum are subjected to laparotomy for ***,we illustrate the case of a man with an FB that had migrated into the descending colon,and its successful removal via a laparoscopic *** SUMMARY A 43-year-old man,who had the habit of FB insertion into his anus to aid defe-cation,presented upon experience of such an FB slipping through and migrating upward to the distal *** abdominal radiograph revealed a bottle-shaped FB,positioned in the left iliac fossa *** FB was successfully removed via a laparoscopic-assisted procedure in which we combined diagnostic laparoscopic and endoscopic techniques during *** patient was monitored for 2 d postoperatively and subsequently discharged *** A minimally invasive approach should be adopted to aid extraction of colorectal FB as it is effective and safe.

The aim of this research is to study the effect of hydrophilic silica nanoparticles,sizes as CO_(2) foam stabilizer in the presence of nonionic TX100 *** nanosilica sizes,15 and 70 nm,have been examined *** of TX100 on silica nanoparticles(nanosilica)was characterized by adsorption isotherm and surface tension measurement,while CO_(2) foams stability was quantified based on their foamability,foam stability,particle partitioning in the foams,and bubble *** show that direct contact of TX100 with nanosilica does altered the wettability of hydrophilic nanosilica surface,enable them to lengthen CO_(2) foams life at certain surfactant and nanoparticles *** 15 nm nanosilica,CO_(2) foam stability shows excellent performance at 0.1 and 0.5 wt%TX100 *** for 70 nm nanosilica,CO_(2) foam demonstrates longer lifetime at much lower TX100 concentration,0.01 wt%.Without the presence of TX100,CO_(2) foams exhibit undesirable lifetime performances for both nanosilica *** partitioning in CO_(2) foams structures demonstrate consistent relation with contact angle *** bubble sizes shows insignificant effect on CO_(2) foams *** the assists of nanosilica and TX100,enhanced oil recovery via CO_(2) foam injection succeeds in increasing oil production by 13e22%of original oil-in-place(OOIP).

Ternary teiiurite glasses with composition of xWO3（40-x）Ag2O-60TeO2（x=0-40 mol%） have been prepared by melt-quenching *** and optical properties of the glass system were obtained by ultrasonic velocity measurements and UV-vis spectroscopy,respectively,while structural investigation was carried out by using Raman *** longitudinal and shear velocities,vLand vsshowed large increase at x from 0 to 20 mol%before decrease with further addition of *** longitudinal modulus CLand shear modulus μ bulk modulus KeYoung’s modulus Vand Debye temperature θDshowed similar behaviors to both *** large increase of the elastic moduli at x from 0 to 20 mol%is suggested to be due to the increase in WO6octahedral unit structure indicating the increase of bridging oxygen（BO） and formation of stronger Te-O-W bonds compared to Te-O-Te *** the other hand,forx> 20 mol%,the decrease in the elastic moduli was due to the increase of non-bridging oxygen（NBO） as a result of formation of WO4tetrahedral via breaking Te-O-W *** analysis by using bulk compression and ring deformation models showed a slight decrease in the ratio of ideal bulk modulus Kbcto the experimental bulk modulus Keand average atomic ring size,/ for× 20 mol%.Our analysis also indicates that limited ring deformation took place and the main compression mechanism in this glass system was mainly ideal isotropic *** the other hand,optical band gap Eoptshowed small variation for x=0-20 mol%but decreased upon higher WO3content while refractive index n showed the opposite *** optical behavior is suggested to be related to the changes in cross link density and NBO concentration in the glass system.

Snake robots are mostly designed based on single mode locomotion. However, single mode gait most likely could not work effectively when the robot is subject to an unstructured working environment with different measures of terrain complexity. As a solution, mixed mode locomotion is proposed in this paper by synchronizing two types of gaits known as serpentine and wriggler gaits used for non-constricted and narrow space environments, respectively, but for straight line locomotion only. A gait transition algorithm is developed to efficiently change the gait from one to another. This study includes the investigation on kinematics analysis followed by dynamics analysis while considering related structural constraints for both gaits. The approach utilizes the speed of the serpentine gait for open area locomotion and exploits the narrow space access capability of the wriggler gait. Hence, it can increase motion flexibility in view of the fact that the robot is able to change its mode of locomotion according to the working environment.

Carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC)has emerged in oil and gas industries as a superior substitution to the conventional HPAM and xanthan gum(XG)for high viscosity polymer flooding *** this study,the combined effect of conventional surfactant,sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate(SDBS)and CMC for potential surfactant-polymer(SP)flooding in enhanced oil recovery(EOR)has been ***,SDBS–CMC interaction and the functional groups present in CMC were appropriately *** presence of various C–O bonds signifies the existence of carboxymethyl group which greatly influence the rheological properties of CMC *** behaviour of SDBS–CMC was characterized by their viscosity,shear rate,solubilization,wettability,and surface *** flooding utilizing SDBS-CMC was performed and compared to commercial SDBS-XG SP *** results indicate several SDBS-CMC combinations are favourable for EOR *** viscosity shows direct relationship with CMC ***,at any given SDBS concentrations,significant increment was observed at 0.3 wt%and ***,the trend displayed inconclusive relation to SDBS *** of the SDBS-CMC combinations generate Winsor III emulsions particularly at CMC of 0.2 and 0.3 wt%,while Type II were observed in few *** CMC concentrations increased the contact angle,while gradual reductions were observed with SDBS *** gradual reduction in surface tension was highly influenced by the addition of CMC rather than SDBS.A novel combination of 0.3 wt%SDBS and 0.4 wt%CMC possessed an encouraging criterion in term of viscosity,solubilization,and surface tension reduction for EOR *** experiment from several SDBS-CMC combinations proved to recover additional oil ranging 16.4–20.2%of oil initially in place(OIIP).The trend in incremental oil recovery is similar to that of when utilising SDBS-XG.

Taurine protects against retinal and optic nerve damage induced by endothelin-1 in rats via antioxidant effects

Endothelin-1（ET-1）, a potent vasoconstrictor, is involved in retinal vascular dysregulation and oxidative stress in glaucomatous eyes. Taurine（TAU）, a naturally occurring free amino acid, is known for its neuroprotective and antioxidant properties. Hence, we evaluated its neuroprotective properties against ET-1 induced retinal and optic nerve damage. ET-1 was administered intravitreally to Sprague-Dawley rats and TAU was injected as pre-, co-or post-treatment. Animals were euthanized seven days post TAU injection. Retinae and optic nerve were examined for morphology, and were also processed for caspase-3 immunostaining. Retinal redox status was estimated by measuring retinal superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione, and malondialdehyde levels using enzyme-linked immuosorbent assay. Histopathological examination showed significantly improved retinal and optic nerve morphology in TAU-treated groups. Morphometric examination showed that TAU pre-treatment provided marked protection against ET-1 induced damage to retina and optic nerve. In accordance with the morphological observations, immunostaining for caspase showed a significantly lesser number of apoptotic retinal cells in the TAU pre-treatment group. The retinal oxidative stress was reduced in all TAU-treated groups, and particularly in the pre-treatment group. The findings suggest that treatment with TAU, particularly pre-treatment, prevents apoptosis of retinal cells induced by ET-1 and hence prevents the changes in the morphology of retina and optic nerve. The protective effect of TAU against ET-1 induced retinal and optic nerve damage is associated with reduced retinal oxidative stress.

Smartphone ownership among adolescents is getting common in this decade especially in Malaysia;Adolescent are strongly devoted to their smartphone and this may lead to smartphone *** have reported that smartphone addiction has become an emerging social and health problem especially among the youth in many countries however there is lack of study among adolescents in *** study aimed to examine the prevalence and factors associated with smartphone addiction among adolescents in *** was a cross-sectional study involving adolescents from 15 primary care clinics throughout the *** were assessed on their smartphone activities using the Malaysian short version of the Smartphone addiction scale(SAS-M-SV).Multiple logistic regression was used to determine the predictors of smartphone addiction among *** study was conducted among 921 adolescents with 49.6%male(n=457).The mean age of adolescents was 16.4±2.4 *** ethnicity distribution were 74.6%Malay,7.3%Chinese,4.7%Indian and 13.4%other *** prevalence of smartphone addiction was 37.1%(342/921);37.4%in male and 36.9%in *** on multiple logistic regression analysis,longer duration of smartphone use per week was associated with higher odds of smartphone addiction among adolescent(odd ratio=1.005%,95%confidence interval=1.000–1.009,p-value=0.039).Smartphone addiction is present in nearly four in ten adolescents in *** who spend longer duration in smartphone usage per week were associated with higher odds of having smartphone *** should be more alert and vigilant about this ***,parents should limit their children from spending too much of time with smartphone in order to prevent their children from getting smartphone addiction.

Content Based Image Retrieval, CBIR, performed an automated classification task for a queried image. It could relieve a user from the laborious and time-consuming metadata assigning for an image while working on massive image collection. For an image, user’s definition or description is subjective where it could belong to different categories as defined by different users. Human based categorization and computer-based categorization might produce different results due to different categorization criteria that rely on dataset structure and the clustering techniques. This paper is aimed to exhibit an idea for planning the dataset structure and choosing the clustering algorithm for CBIR implementation. There are 5 sections arranged in this paper;CBIR and QBE concepts are introduced in Section 1, related image categorization research is listed in Section 2, the 5 type of image clustering are described in Section 3, comparative analysis in Section 4, and Section 5 conclude this study. Outcome of this paper will be benefiting CBIR developer for various applications.
