Objectives: This pilot study evaluated a healthy lifestyle program within the Welfare-to-Work program to help high-risk participants transition from welfare to employment. Methods: Nineteen Latinas enrolled in the California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) program for more than six months participated in a 12-week intervention including six hours of employment-related training (ERT), two hours of healthy lifestyle classes, and two 1-hour exercise classes each week for 12 weeks. The women completed a survey and an anthropometric evaluation at baseline, 4- and 10-month post-baseline. CalWORKs participation and employment data also were collected. Additionally, aggregate data were collected for a comparison group meeting the same eligibility criteria and not participating in the 12-week intervention. Results: From baseline to 4-month, blood pressure, waist circumference, and body mass indices all decreased. Participants showed higher participation in ERT-related activities than the comparison group during and after the 12-week intervention. Employment rates were greater among the intervention versus comparison group participants and they were more likely to obtain employment of 20+ hours per week. Conclusions: This type of program benefits individuals in the Welfare-to-Work program on employment-related outcomes.

The aim of this study is to examine and present the results of the scientific examinations carried out on the ground layers with paint samples collected from the decorated surfaces of the wooden coffin dated back to the late period from Saqqara excavation that belonged to the Ministry of Antiquities. Many analytical methods were performed as optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray analysis （ESEM-EDX）, X-ray diffraction analysis as well as fourier transform infrared spectroscopy have been used to both characterise the inorganic composition and the binding media used. The analytical results showed that the materials composition and technique used to plaster applied on the wooden surface are in good agreement with the information gathered through the historical survey. The coffin was in bad and poor condition. There was cracking on the surface and in the structure, serious flaking, cupping of some pigments and serious damage in both the wooden support and gesso layer. Conservation treatment processes carried out included consolidation of lifting areas of the paint film, disturbing restoration materials, repair of cracks in the wooden support and a dry surface cleaning of the pigments.

Burnout among Lebanese nurses: Psychometric properties of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS)

Background: Burnout is a mental condition defined as a result of continuous and long-term stress exposure, particularly related to psychosocial factors at work. This paper aims to examine the psychometric properties of the Maslach Burnout Questionnaire (MBI-HSS) for validation of use in Lebanon, and to describe burnout and associated factors amongst nurses in Lebanon especially the gender and employment sector. Methods: The psychometric properties of the Arabic version of MBI-HSS were studied amongst a sample of 200 nurses. In this descriptive study, survey data were collected from private and public hospitals. The data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis. Results: The results indicated satisfactory reliability through internal consistency for all three scales of the MBI-HSS. The factor analysis was quite satisfactory. Most of staff had scores which indicated they were burnt out. Nearly three quarters (77.5%) reported emotional exhaustion, 36.0% reported depersonalization while almost one third (33.0%) experienced reduced personal accomplishment. Burnout increases for 30-39 years age groups. Married nurses had significantly higher emotional exhaustion. Depersonalization was highest among nurses in private sector, and personal accomplishment was highest among nurses in public sector. Depersonalization proved to be higher in night and rotating shift nurses. Depression, backache, and headache were predictors of burnout. Conclusion: Findings indicate that the main psychometric properties of reliability and validity of the Arabic version of MBI-HSS appear to be satisfactory. Burnout is particularly prominent and severe in the nurses working population. The implications of these findings for interventions that reduce burnout and promote nursing mental health are therefore in the interest of employers, governments and policy makers.

Structural optimization of ionomers is an effective strategy for achieving high-performance proton ex-change membranes(PEMs)under low relative humidity(RH)*** this study,sulfonimide group and trifluoromethanesulfonate acid(TFSA)ionic liquids were introduced to the perfluorosulfonic acid(PFSA)side chain,resulting in polymer membranes with varying chain lengths(i.e.,PFC_(2)-TF-SI,PFC_(4)-TF-SI,and PFC_(5)-TF-SI).This dual proton-conducting structure extended the length of the hydrophilic side chain and enhanced the hydrophobic-hydrophilic phase separation,aiding in the formation of proton transport ***,the proton conductivity of PFC_(5)-TF-SI and PFC_(2)-TF-SI membranes reached 7.1 and 10.6 mS/cm at 30%RH and 80℃,respectively,which were approximately 29.1%and 92.7%higher than that of the pristine PFC_(5)-SA membrane(5.5 mS/cm).Furthermore,the maximum power density of the PFC_(5)-TF-SI and PFC_(2)-TF-SI membranes from the built single fuel cell achieved 649 and 763 mW/cm^(2) at 30%RH and 80℃,respectively,which were higher than that of the pristine PFC_(5)-SA membrane(567 mW/cm^(2))by about 14.5%and 34.6%,***,this study provides a strategy for PEM design under low RH conditions.

Central Obesity and Comorbidity Risk in Hemodialysis Patients: A Cross Sectional Study in Lebanon

Introduction: Abdominal deposition of fat has been described as the type of obesity that offers the greatest risk for the health of individuals, and is associated with increased mortality, and morbidity. Conicity index (Ci), Body mass index (BMI), and waist hip ratio (WHR) are used to predict the risk of obesity related diseases. However, it has not been ex amined whether these indicators can predict the comorbidities in hemodialysis subjects in Lebanon. Objective: to determine the effect of central obesity on comorbidities in hemodialysis patients in Lebanon. Material and Method: This is a cross-sectional study of obesity in 60 hemodialysis subjects in Lebanon. A linear regression analysis was used to determine the relationship between BMI, Ci, WHR, and comorbidities measured by Charlson (CCI) and Davies comorbidities indexes. Results: Ci values were significantly associated with age, and CCI;the abdominal fat deposition evaluated by the conicity index and WHR were a predictor of the comorbidities according to CCI (= 2.96;p = 0.01), and Davies comorbidity index (= 1.19;p = 0.05) scores. BMI was a weak predictor of comorbidity. Conclusion: Abdominal obesity by using simple anthropometric measurements e.g. Ci, and WHR values can similarly predict the presence of comorbidities in hemodialysis patients. Maintaining appropriate Ci and WHR values might be important to improve outcome in hemodialysis patients.

Measuring and monitoring health related quality of life (HRQoL) in youth are important for both researchers and decision makers. During the time that young people are at university, many will encounter a number of academic, as well as social, emotional and psychological difficulties. The aims of this study are to: 1) assess the health related quality of life of youths using SF-36 questionnaire and its factor determinants, and 2) provide an objective basis for a health promotion structure. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study in South Lebanon, in a population of 282 young university students attending a public university which is the largest and most widespread institution of higher education in Lebanon. Socioeconomic and lifestyle behaviors data were collected. Students’ HRQoL was measured using the SF-36 Health Survey. Results: The mean age of the respondents was 18.7 years (SD = 1.16), 80.1% were women, 64.5% were living in rural area. The proportion of current smokers was significantly greater among men than women (26.8% vs. 11.5%, p < 0.01). Water pipe was the main type of smoking. Education of the fathers had negatively influenced HRQoL. Younger age scored higher in Social Functioning and Role-Emotional;the area of residence had no influences on SF-36 scales scores. Females had poorer HRQoL than males especially in mental health scales. Smokers had low Vitality and Mental Health scores. Sedentary lifestyle was linked to a lower score of Physical Functioning (β = -5.16, 95% CI = -7.67 -2.65), and Vitality ( β= -5.85, 95% CI = -10.24 -1.45). The HRQoL of the students studying business and economics was higher than those studying health. Conclusion: Youths’ HRQoL is affected by socio-demographic and behavioral characteristics. Effective health-promoting actions, social support, and counseling services should be implemented in the campus and are a necessary step towards the main goal of improving the overall HRQoL of the university young students in Lebanon.

随着信息技术的不断发展和基础设施的不断完善,大数据技术已广泛应用于各个行业,比如医疗、教育、餐饮、物流、汽车、金融和娱乐等行业,给人们的生活带来诸多便利。在大学,随着管理手段信息化的不断深入,产生了大量的数据,其中,大学生日常生活和学习行为所累积的数据引起了高校管理人员的高度重视,也成为广大研究者的研究对象。通过对这些数据进行处理和分析,则可以获得学生的行为特征和规律,为学生管理者更好地管理学生提供参考。本文基于兰州理工大学的学生数据,其中包含学生的书籍借阅、校园卡消费、两学年的成绩和学生专业记录等数据,作为要调查的数据源。使用RapidMiner数据架构框架,可以预处理数据集并集成不同的数据源以获得一组数据以进行分析。进行的主要工作如下:（1）利用FP—growth算法来挖掘学生的学习成绩、借阅的书籍数量、不同专业与校园卡消费之间的相关关系,来预测学生行为。还使用Python Pandas软件包进行了统计分析,以确保数据平衡以及检测和处理任何异常值。（2）通过使用K-means算法对学生数据进行聚类,根据聚类结果挖掘不同学生的学业成绩、图书借阅数据与校园卡消费数据之间的关系,以及不同学生之间存在的行为差异。肘法用于确定K-means的最佳簇数。（3）为了预测下一年的学生表现,朴素贝叶斯（Naive Bayes,NB）、支持向量机（Support Vector Machine,SVM）、随机森林（Random Forest,RF）和神经网络（Neural Networks,NN）进行参数调优来提高算法性能。为了防止模型过度拟合,应用了十折交叉验证技术将数据集分为训练数据集和测试数据的数据集。此外,在这项研究中,通过结合支持向量机（SVM）,随机森林（RF）,朴素贝叶斯（NB）和神经网络（NN）的特征,提出了一个综合分类模型,以根据学生的行为来预测他们的表现。该模型的关键部分是具有类别交叉熵损失函数的SoftMax函数,该函数构成了神经网络第三层的一部分。而且,用于调整班级标签的班级权重。（4）最后,使用各种评估指标评估每个模型的性能。经实验证明,本文所提出的模型表现最佳,ROC曲线的微观平均值为92%,宏观平均值为86%。随机森林（RF）算法的准确率值为75%,支持向量机（SVM）为76%,朴素贝叶斯（NB）具有74%的准确率,神经网络（NN）的准确率为78%,而本文模型的准确率为85%,所提出的分类算法能够正确地对各专业的学生表现进行分类,优于传统算法。

Association of Hyperhomocysteinaemia with Hyperglycaemia, Dyslipidaemia, Hypertension and Obesity

There is conflicting scientific data about the link between, high homocysteine (Hcy) levels in the general population, and obesity. This is a case-control study aimed to assess the role of hyperhomocysteinemia in obesity and its associated illnesses, including hypertension, dyslipidemia, and hyperglycemia in Gezira state, Sudan. Two hundred and eleven participants were included in the study, 140 were obese (117 females and 23 males) and 71 were normal weight control, the obese median age was 49.49 ± 12.2 years. The control group consisted of 71 individuals with an average age of 45.78 ± 17.67 years. Among those who were already known to be obese, 67 (47.9%) reported having type II diabetes mellitus, 71 (50.7%) reported having hypertension, and 35 (25%) were obese without having either diabetes or hypertension. Three mls of venous blood from each participant were collected in the morning after a 12 h overnight fasting in Lithium heparin containers then the plasma was separated and stored at -80°C for analysis. Serum Hcy and lipid profile were measured using the enzymatic method by Cobas C 411 analyzer. In comparison to obese non-hypertensive, the results showed that obese hypertensive with Hcy levels > 15 mol/L had a considerably increased risk (OR 1.12). When Hcy levels > 15 mol/L were compared to obese diabetics and obese non-diabetics, insignificant difference was shown (P: 0.345). Males had a higher likelihood of having hyperhomocysteinemia than females did (OR 1.2). Homocysteine, cholesterol triglyceride, LDL, and HDL mean values were compared between case and control groups using the independent sample t-test, and the results revealed statistically significant (P: <0.05). Relationships between hyperhomocysteinaemia and cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, and HDL in the group of obese individuals were not statistically significant (P: 0.574, 0.265, 0.748, and 0.14), respectively. Secure Hashing Algorithms (SHA) showed a significant importance in today’s information security applications. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), held a competition of three rounds to replace SHA1 and SHA2 with the new SHA-3, to ensure long term robustness of hash functions. In this paper, we present a comprehensive hardware evaluation for the final round SHA-3 candidates. The main goal of providing the hardware evaluation is to: find the best algorithm among them that will satisfy the new hashing algorithm standards defined by the NIST. This is based on a comparison made between each of the finalists in terms of security level, throughput, clock frequancey, area, power consumption, and the cost. We expect that the achived results of the comparisons will contribute in choosing the next hashing algorithm (SHA-3) that will support the security requirements of applications in todays ubiquitous and pervasive information infrastructure.
