Multiple metallic dopants in nickel nanoparticles for electrocatalytic oxygen evolution

Developing efficient oxygen evolution reaction(OER) electrocatalysts is of great importance for sustainable energy conversion and storage. Ni-based catalysts have shown great potential as OER electrocatalysts, but their performance still needs to be improved. Herein, we report the multiple metal doped nickel nanoparticles synthesized via a simple oil phase strategy as efficient OER catalysts. The FeMnMoV–Ni exhibits superior OER performance with an overpotential of 220 mV at 10 mA cm-2and a long-term stability of 250 h in 1 M KOH solution. In situ Raman analysis shows that the NiOOH site works as the active center and multiple metallic dopants facilitate the formation of NiOOH. Mo and V dopants promote the formation of high-valence state of Ni sites, and Mn dopants increase the electrochemical active surface area and expose more active sites. This work provides a novel strategy for catalyst design, which is critical for developing multiple metal doped catalysts.

The interaction between oxidation and frictional load can greatly deteriorate the performance of ceramic-metal composites.In this work,we used WC-Co cermet as a representative of ceramic-metal composites to study its wear failure behavior and protection effectiveness.It is found that a transition of wear mechanism from mechanical wear to oxidative wear occurs with increasing temperature.The addition of zirconia can significantly improve the anti-oxidation performance and load-bearing capacity of the cermet under the frictional load.This is mainly attributed to the modulation of the tribo-oxide layer constitutions and changes in surface morphology.The zirconia component facilitates the formation of a dense protective oxide layer and reduces the content of brittle oxides on the worn surface.Based on the understanding of the temperature-and oxidation-induced compositional and microstructural evolutions at the sliding contact surface and subsurface,a promising approach is proposed for developing ceramic-metal composites with high wear resistance and anti-oxidation capability.

Visual attention is a mechanism that enables the visual system to detect potentially important objects in complex environment. Most computational visual attention models are designed with inspirations from mammalian visual systems.However, electrophysiological and behavioral evidences indicate that avian species are animals with high visual capability that can process complex information accurately in real time. Therefore,the visual system of the avian species, especially the nuclei related to the visual attention mechanism, are investigated in this paper. Afterwards, a hierarchical visual attention model is proposed for saliency detection. The optic tectum neuron responses are computed and the self-information is used to compute primary saliency maps in the first hierarchy. The "winner-takeall" network in the tecto-isthmal projection is simulated and final saliency maps are estimated with the regularized random walks ranking in the second hierarchy. Comparison results verify that the proposed model, which can define the focus of attention accurately, outperforms several state-of-the-art models.This study provides insights into the relationship between the visual attention mechanism and the avian visual pathways. The computational visual attention model may reveal the underlying neural mechanism of the nuclei for biological visual attention.

IFCEM based recognition method for target with interval-overlapped hybrid attributes

When the attributes of unknown targets are not just numerical attributes,but hybrid attributes containing linguistic attributes,the existing recognition methods are not effective.In addition,it is more difficult to identify the unknown targets densely distributed in the feature space,especially when there is interval overlap between attribute measurements of different target classes.To address these problems,a novel method based on intuitionistic fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model(IFCEM)is proposed.For numerical attributes,targets in the database are divided into individual classes and overlapping classes,and for linguistic attributes,continuous interval-valued linguistic term set(CIVLTS)is used to describe target characteristic.A cloud modelbased method and an area-based method are proposed to obtain intuitionistic fuzzy decision information of query target on numerical attributes and linguistic attributes respectively.An improved inverse weighted kernel fuzzy c-means(IWK-FCM)algorithm is proposed for solution of attribute weight vector.The possibility matrix is applied to determine the identity and category of query target.Finally,a case study composed of parameter sensitivity analysis,recognition accuracy analysis.and comparison with other methods,is taken to verify the superiority of the proposed method.

The design of high-performance electrocatalysts for alkaline water splitting is of significant importance for the development of a sustainable hydrogen economy.Herein,heterostructured Co_(3)Mo nanoparti-cles/porous CoMoO_(3)nanosheets(Co_(3)Mo/CoMoO_(3)NPSs)were constructed for alkaline water splitting by annealing CoMoO x nanosheets under controlled atmospheres.Thanks to its interfacial electronic structure and increased electrochemical active area,Co_(3)Mo/CoMoO_(3)NPSs exhibit impressive hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)activity with an overpotential of 334 mV at 1000 mA cm^(-2) and a Tafel slope of 46.4 mV per decade in 1.0 M KOH,which outperforms Pt/C catalyst(621 mV and 74.7 mV per decade).Density functional theory calculations illustrate the electron transfer from Co_(3)Mo to CoMoO_(3)at the interfaces,where electron accumulation on CoMoO_(3)favors the dissociation of H_(2)O molecule,and electron-deficient Co atoms in Co_(3)Mo have optimized H∗absorption energy for HER.The Co_(3)Mo/CoMoO_(3)NPSs also exhibit higher oxygen evolution reaction activity than the RuO_(2)catalyst.Moreover,the water electrolyzer us-ing Co_(3)Mo/CoMoO_(3)NPSs as both cathode and anode only requires 1.59 V to deliver a current density of 100 mA cm^(-2)in 1.0 M KOH,which outperforms benchmark Pt/C||RuO_(2)electrodes couple with 1.69 V to reach the same current density,providing great potential for large-scale applications.

A method to model the effect of pre-existing cracks on P-wave velocity in rocks

Crack closure is one of the reasons inducing changes of P-wave velocity of rocks under compression.In this context,a method is proposed to investigate the relationships among P-wave velocity,pre-existing cracks,and confining pressure based on the discrete element method(DEM).Pre-existing open cracks inside the rocks are generated by the initial gap of the flat-joint model.The validity of the method is evaluated by comparing the P-wave velocity tested on a sandstone specimen with numerical result.As the crack size is determined by the diameter of particles,the effects of three factors,i.***.number,aspect ratio,and orientation of cracks on the P-wave velocity are discussed.The results show that P-wave velocity is controlled by the(i.***.number) of open micro-cracks,while the closure pressure is determined by the aspect ratio of crack.The reason accounting for the anisotropy of P-wave velocity is the difference in crack number in measurement paths.Both of the number and aspect ratio of cracks can affect the responses of P-wave velocity to the applied confining pressure.Under confining pressure,the number of open cracks inside rocks will dominate the lowest P-wave velocity,and the P-wave velocity of the rock containing narrower cracks is more sensitive to the confining pressure.In this sense,crack density is difficult to be back-calculated merely by P-wave velocity.The proposed method offers a means to analyze the effect of pre-existing cracks on P-wave velocity.

Applications of Fractional Lower Order Time-frequency Representation to Machine Bearing Fault Diagnosis

The machinery fault signal is a typical non-Gaussian and non-stationary process. The fault signal can be described by SaS distribution model because of the presence of impulses.Time-frequency distribution is a useful tool to extract helpful information of the machinery fault signal. Various fractional lower order(FLO) time-frequency distribution methods have been proposed based on fractional lower order statistics, which include fractional lower order short time Fourier transform(FLO-STFT), fractional lower order Wigner-Ville distributions(FLO-WVDs), fractional lower order Cohen class time-frequency distributions(FLO-CDs), fractional lower order adaptive kernel time-frequency distributions(FLO-AKDs) and adaptive fractional lower order time-frequency auto-regressive moving average(FLO-TFARMA) model time-frequency representation method.The methods and the exiting methods based on second order statistics in SaS distribution environments are compared, simulation results show that the new methods have better performances than the existing methods. The advantages and disadvantages of the improved time-frequency methods have been summarized.Last, the new methods are applied to analyze the outer race fault signals, the results illustrate their good performances.

Fe_(2)O_(3)/Co_(3)O_(4)/NiO/NC nanosheets have been successfully prepared via a two-step annealing process of ternary metal coordination polymer. Attributing to the synergistic effects of the multiple metal oxides and the unique 2D nanosheet structure, the improved electrical conductivity and effective electron/ion transfer enables Fe_(2)O_(3)/Co_(3)O_(4)/NiO/NC electrode to exhibit excellent electrochemical properties with outstanding rate capacity and cycling stability. This work may pave the way to construct ternary metal oxide electrode material with an excellent electrochemical performance by introducing multiple metal oxides.
