Investigation on strong nonlinear interactions between underwater explosion and water surface based on compressible multiphase flow with phase transition

The strong nonlinear interactions between underwater explosion and water surface were numerically investigated using a phase transition model based on a four-equation system,which can deal with the complex deformable interface among different phases,including water,air,explosion bubble,and cavitation.The numerical method is verified by comparing the numerical results with experimental results,and good agreements are found.This study considers an ideal sine wave for simulating the shape of water surface.Two examples of different detonation depths of charge are investigated.In each example,the first case is the basic simulation without surface wave,and the other three cases are the simulations with sine waves of different wavelengths.Unique characteristics of the interactions,such as shock wave propagation,explosion bubble expansion,and the generation,development,and collapse of cavitation,are observed in the numerical simulations.By capturing the detailed density and pressure contours during the interaction process,we can better understand the underlying mechanisms of the explosion bubble,cavitation,and surface waves.These numerical results demonstrate that geometric nonlinearity impacts cavitation evolution and the explosion bubble movement mechanism.Additionally,the secondary cavitation phenomenon has been found in the cases without surface wave,and its fundamental physical mechanism is presented in detail.The present results can expand the existing database of multiphase flow in the underwater explosion and provide an insight into the strong nonlinear interaction between the underwater explosion and water surface.

The Use of High-Performance Fatigue Mechanics and the Extended Kalman/Particle Filters,for Diagnostics and Prognostics of Aircraft Structures

In this paper,we propose an approach for diagnostics and prognostics of damaged aircraft structures,by combing high-performance fatigue mechanics with filtering theories.Fast&accurate deterministic analyses of fatigue crack propagations are carried out,by using the Finite Element Alternating Method(FEAM)for computing SIFs,and by using the newly developed Moving Least Squares(MLS)law for computing fatigue crack growth rates.Such algorithms for simulating fatigue crack propagations are embedded in the computer program Safe-Flaw,which is called upon as a subroutine within the probabilistic framework of filter theories.Both the extended Kalman as well as particle filters are applied in this study,to obtain the statistically optimal and semi-optimal estimates of crack lengths,from a series of noisy measurements of crack-lengths over time.For the specific problem,a simple modification to the particle filter,which can drastically reduce the computational burden,is also proposed.Based on the results of such diagnostic analyses,the prognostics of aerospace structures are thereafter achieved,to estimate the probabilistic distribution of the remaining useful life.By using a simple example of a single-crack near a fastener hole,we demonstrate the concept and effectiveness of the proposed framework.This paper thus forms the scientific foundation for the recently proposed concepts of VRAMS(Virtual Risk-Informed Agile Maneuver Sustainment)and Digital Twins of aerospace vehicles.

Current and Potential Roles of Ferroptosis in Bladder Cancer

Ferroptosis,a type of regulated cell death driven by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation,is mainly initiated by extramitochondrial lipid peroxidation due to the accumulation of iron-dependent reactive oxygen species.Ferroptosis is a prevalent and primitive form of cell death.Numerous cellular metabolic processes regulate ferroptosis,including redox homeostasis,iron regulation,mitochondrial activity,amino acid metabolism,lipid metabolism,and various disease-related signaling pathways.Ferroptosis plays a pivotal role in cancer therapy,particularly in the eradication of aggressive malignancies resistant to conventional treatments.Multiple studies have explored the connection between ferroptosis and bladder cancer,focusing on its incidence and treatment outcomes.Several biomolecules and tumor-associated signaling pathways,such as p53,heat shock protein 1,nuclear receptor coactivator 4,RAS-RAF-MEK,phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-AKT-mammalian target of rapamycin,and the Hippo-tafazzin signaling system,exert a moderating influence on ferroptosis in bladder cancer.Ferroptosis inducers,including erastin,artemisinin,conjugated polymer nanoparticles,and quinazolinyl-arylurea derivatives,hold promise for enhancing the effectiveness of conventional anticancer medications in bladder cancer treatment.Combining conventional therapeutic drugs and treatment methods related to ferroptosis offers a promising approach for the treatment of bladder cancer.In this review,we analyze the research on ferroptosis to augment the efficacy of bladder cancer treatment.

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of perfluoro-n-octane(PFO)for ophthalmic surgery versus F-Octane as an intraoperative tamponade in pars plana vitrectomy(PPV)in management of retinal detachment.METHODS:This multicenter,prospective,randomized,double-masked,parallel-controlled,non-inferiority trial was conducted in three ophthalmology clinical centers in China.Patients with retinal detachment,who were eligible for PPV were consecutively enrolled.Participants were assigned to PFO for ophthalmic surgery or F-Octane for intraocular tamponade in a 1:1 ratio.Best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA),intraocular pressure(IOP)measurement,and dilated fundus examination were performed preoperatively and at 1,7±1,28±3d postoperatively.The primary outcome was complete retinal reattachment rate at postoperative day one.The non-inferiority margin was set at 9.8%.The secondary outcomes included intraoperative retinal reattachment rate,and mean changes in IOP and BCVA from baseline to 1,7±1,28±3d postoperatively,respectively.Safety analyses were presented for all randomly assigned participates in this study.RESULTS:Totally 124 eligible patients completed the study between Mar.14,2016 and Jun.7,2017.Sixty of them were randomly assigned to the PFO for ophthalmic surgery group,and 64 were assigned to the F-Octane group.Baseline characteristics were comparable between the two groups.Both groups achieved 100%retinal reattachment at postoperative day one(difference 0,95%CI:-6.21%to 5.75%,P=1).The pre-defined noninferiority criterion was met.No significant difference was observed in intraoperative retinal reattachment rate(difference 1.77%,P=0.61),mean changes in IOP(difference 0.36,-0.09,2.22 mm Hg at 1,7±1,28±3d postoperatively,with all P>0.05)and BCVA(difference 0.04,-0.02,0.06 logMAR at 1,7±1,28±3d postoperatively,all P>0.05)between the two groups.No apparent adverse events related to the utilization of PFO were reported.CONCLUSION:In patients with retinal detachment undergoing PPV,PFO for ophthalmic surgery is non-inferior to F-Oct

Predicting the prognosis of hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy in hepatocellular carcinoma

Hepatic artery infusion chemotherapy(haiC)has good clinical efficacy in the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC);however,its efficacy varies.This review summarized the ability of various markers to predict the efficacy of haiC and provided a reference for clinical applications.As of October 25,2023,51 articles have been retrieved based on keyword predictions and haiC.Sixteen eligible articles were selected for inclusion in this study.Comprehensive literature analysis found that methods used to predict the efficacy of haiC include serological testing,gene testing,and imaging testing.The above indicators and their combined forms showed excellent predictive effects in retrospective studies.This review summarized the strategies currently used to predict the efficacy of haiC in middle and advanced HCC,analyzed each marker's ability to predict haiC efficacy,and provided a reference for the clinical application of the prediction system.

Semi-supervised remote sensing image scene classification with prototype-based consistency

Deep learning significantly improves the accuracy of remote sensing image scene classification,benefiting from the large-scale datasets.However,annotating the remote sensing images is time-consuming and even tough for experts.Deep neural networks trained using a few labeled samples usually generalize less to new unseen images.In this paper,we propose a semi-supervised approach for remote sensing image scene classification based on the prototype-based consistency,by exploring massive unlabeled images.To this end,we,first,propose a feature enhancement module to extract discriminative features.This is achieved by focusing the model on the foreground areas.Then,the prototype-based classifier is introduced to the framework,which is used to acquire consistent feature representations.We conduct a series of experiments on NWPU-RESISC45 and Aerial Image Dataset(AID).Our method improves the State-Of-The-Art(SOTA)method on NWPU-RESISC45 from 92.03%to 93.08%and on AID from 94.25%to 95.24%in terms of accuracy.

Numerical and experimental investigation into the evolution of the shock wave when a muzzle jet impacts a constrained moving body

The gun-track launch system is a new special launch device that connects the track outside the muzzle.Because it is constrained by the track,the characteristics of development of the muzzle jet differ from those of the traditional muzzle jet.Specifically,it changes from freely developing to doing so in a constrained manner,where this results in an asymmetric direction of flow as well as spatio-temporal coupling-induced interference between various shock waves and the formation of vortices.In this background,the authors of this article formulate and consider the development and characteristics of evolution of the muzzle jet as it impacts a constrained moving body.We designed simulations to test the gun-track launch system,and established a numerical model based on the dynamic grid method to explore the development and characteristics of propagation of disturbances when the muzzle jet impacted a constrained moving body.We also considered models without a constrained track for the sake of comparison.The results showed that the muzzle jet assumed a circumferential asymmetric shape,and tended to develop in the area above the muzzle.Because the test platform was close to the ground,the muzzle jet was subjected to reflections from it that enhanced the development and evolution of various forms of shock waves and vortices in the muzzle jet to exacerbate its rate of distortion and asymmetric characteristics.This in turn led to significant differences in the changes in pressure at symmetric points that would otherwise have been identical.The results of a comparative analysis showed that the constrained track could hinder the influence of reflections from the ground on the muzzle jet to some extent,and could reduce the velocity of the shock waves inducing the motion of the muzzle as well as the Mach number of the moving body.The work here provides a theoretical basis and the requisite technical support for applications of the gun-track launch system.It also sheds light on the technical bottlenecks that need to be considered

Species profile and reactivity of volatile organic compounds emission in solvent uses,industry activities and from vehicular tunnels

A survey was conducted of the volatile organic compounds(VOCs)released from sources of solvent use,industry activities and vehicle emissions in Guiyang,a capital city of China.Samples were collected by canisters and analyzed by GC-MS-FID.The species profiles of VOCs emitted from sources were obtained.Results showed that xylenes,ethylbenzene,acetone and dichloromethane were the characteristics species for painting,2-propanol and ethyl acetate for printing,α-pinene for solid wood furniture manufacturing,and 2-butanone for biscuit baking.These characteristics species could be as tracers for the sources respectively.In most of samples from the solvent use,the benzene/toluene(B/T)ratio was less than 0.3,indicating that the ratio could be as the indicator for tracing the solvent use related sources.The results also suggested that the toluene/xylene(T/X)ratio be as the indicator to distinguish the VOCs sources of painting(2).Aromatics contributed the most to ozone formation potential(OFP)of most painting and non-paper printing sources,and oxygen-containing VOCs(OVOCs)were major species contributing to OFP of the sources from food production and paper printing.The OFP of the VOCs emissions from vehicle in tunnels and from other manufactures were dominated by both aromatics and alkenes.Theα-pinene could explain 56.94%and 32.54%of total OFP of the VOCs sources from filing cabinet and solid wood furniture manufacturing,which was rarely been involved in previous studies of VOCs source profiles,indicating that the species of concern for VOCs sources are still insufficient at present.

Topology Optimization of Two Fluid Heat Transfer Problems for Heat Exchanger Design

Topology optimization of thermal-fluid coupling problems has received widespread attention.This article proposes a novel topology optimization method for laminar two-fluid heat exchanger design.The proposed method utilizes an artificial density field to create two permeability interpolation functions that exhibit opposing trends,ensuring separation between the two fluid domains.Additionally,a Gaussian function is employed to construct an interpolation function for the thermal conductivity coefficient.Furthermore,a computational program has been developed on the OpenFOAM platform for the topology optimization of two-fluid heat exchangers.This program leverages parallel computing,significantly reducing the time required for the topology optimization process.To enhance computational speed and reduce the number of constraint conditions,we replaced the conventional pressure drop constraint condition in the optimization problem with a pressure inlet/outlet boundary condition.The 3D optimization results demonstrate the characteristic features of a surface structure,providing valuable guidance for designing heat exchangers that achieve high heat exchange efficiency while minimizing excessive pressure loss.At the same time,a new structure appears in large-scale topology optimization,which proves the effectiveness and stability of the topology optimization program written in this paper in large-scale calculation.

Derivation of Expanded Isospectral-Nonisospectral Integrable Hierarchies via the Column-vector Loop Algebra

A scheme for generating nonisospectral integrable hierarchies is introduced.Based on the method,we deduce a nonisospectral hierarchy of soliton equations by considering a linear spectral problem.It follows that the corresponding expanded isospectral and nonisospectral integrable hierarchies are deduced based on a 6 dimensional complex linear space ■.By reducing these integrable hierarchies,we obtain the expanded isospectral and nonisospectral derivative nonlinear Schr?dinger equation.By using the trace identity,the biHamiltonian structure of these two hierarchies are also obtained.Moreover,some symmetries and conserved quantities of the resulting hierarchy are discussed.
