Objective Acute aortic dissection （AAD） is a catastrophic event with high early mortality rate, but to date, no data on the incidence of AAD in China's Mainland is available. This study aimed to estimate the incidence of AAD in China and characterize the clinical profile, management and in-hospital outcomes of this vascular event. Methods We used the China Health Insurance Research Data （the CHIRA Data） 2011 which comprises all inpatient hospital records （300,886） during the period of Jan. 1st 2011 to Dec. 31 2011 of 3,335,000 randomly sampled beneficiaries （1,718,500 men and 1,616,500 women） from 25 cities and counties in different economic-geographic regions of China's Mainland. Patients with acute aortic dissection were identified according to International Classification of Disease 10m Revision （ICD-10） of I71.0, The estimated incidence of AAD was calculated using the equation： estimated incidence = 2.0 × （40% × hospital admission rate）＋ 60% × hospital admission rate. Results The hospital admission rate was 2.0/100,000 （65/3,325,000, 95% CI： 1.2-2.8）. The estimated annual incidence of AAD was 2.8/100,000 （95% CI： 1.9-3.6） and was higher in male than in female （3.7 vs. 1.5, P 〈 0.001）. The mean age was 58.9 ± 13.4 years. During the mean hospital stay of 23 ±6 days, the overall in-hospital mortality was 13.9% （9/65）. Conclusions Our study showed relatively lower but not negligible incidence and in-hospital mortality of AAD in the mainland of China. The mean age of patients with AAD in Chinese was younger than that reported by researches from west countries, while the male to female incidence ratio is similar to those reported by other studies.

Previous studies on the prognostic significance of serum levels of androgens in patients with chronic heart failure （CHF） have yielded conflicting results. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between serum concentration of testosterone and mortality in men with systolic CHF. A total of 175 elderly men （age ≥60 years） with CHF were recruited. Total testosterone （TI＇） and sex hormone-binding globulin （SHBG） were measured, and estimated free testosterone （eFT） was calculated. The median follow-up time was 3.46 years. Of these patients, 17 had a TT level below 8 nmol I^-1 （230 ng dI^-1）, 27 had an eFT level below 0.225 nmol I^-1 （65 pg ml^-1） and 12 had both. Using the age-specific tenth percentiles of TT and eFT in healthy men in our laboratory as cutoff points, the prevalences of TT and eFT deficiency was 21.7% （38/175） and 27.4% （48/175）, respectively. Both TT and eFT were inversely associated with left ventricular ejection fraction （LVEF） and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide （NT-pro-BNP）（all P〈0.01）. Kaplan-Meier curves for patients in low, medium and high tertiles according to TT and eFT level showed significantly different cumulative survival rate （both P〈0.01 by log-rank test）. However, after adjustment for clinical variables, there were no significant associations of either TT or eFT levels with survival time （0R=0.97, 95% CI： 0.84-1.12, P=0.28 and 0R=0.92, 95% CI： 0.82-1.06, P=0.14, respectively）. Our study showed that levels of TT and eFT are commonly decreased in elderly patients with systolic CHF and related to disease severity, but they are not independent predictors for mortality.

BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has spread rapidly to multiple countries through its infectious agent severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus *** severity,atypical clinical presentation,and lack of specific anti-viral treatments have posed a challenge for the diagnosis and treatment of *** the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of COVID-19 cases in different geographical areas is essential to improve the prognosis of COVID-19 patients and slow the spread of the *** To investigate the epidemiological and clinical characteristics and main therapeutic strategy for confirmed COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Liaoning Province,*** Adult patients(n=65)with confirmed COVID-19 were enrolled in this retrospective study from January 20 to February 29,2020 in Liaoning Province,*** swabs and sputum specimens were collected from the patients for the detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 nucleic *** demographic information and clinical data were collected from the medical *** on the severity of COVID-19,the patients were divided into nonsevere and severe groups. All patients were followed until March 20,*** mean age of 65 COVID-19 patients was 45.5 ± 14.4 years, 56.9% were men,and 24.6% were severe cases. During the 14 d before symptom onset, 25 (38.5%)patients lived or stayed in wuhan, whereas 8 (12.3%) had no clear history ofexposure. Twenty-nine (44.6%) patients had at least one comorbidity;hypertension and diabetes were the most common comorbidities. Objective The predictive value of the metabolic syndrome （MetS） for mortality from all-cause and cardiovascular disease （CVD） in the Chinese population is unclear. The aim of this present study was to compare MetS with its individual components as predictors of mortality in Chinese elderly adults. Methods A cohort of 1,535 subjects （994 men and 541 women） aged 50 years or older was selected from employees of a machinery factory in 1994 and followed until 2009. Cox models were used to estimate the hazard ratios （HRs） predicted by MetS according to the harmonized defmition and by its individual components. Results The baseline prevalence of MetS was 28.0% in men and 48.4% in women. During a median follow-up of 15 years, 414 deaths occurred, of these, 153 participants died from CVD. Adjusted for age and gender, the HRs of mortality from all-cause and CVD in participants with MetS were 1.47 （95% confidence interval （CI）： 1.20-1.80） and 1.96 （95%CI： 1.42-2.72）, respectively, compared with those without MetS. Non-significant higher risk of CVD mortality was seen in those with one or two individual components （HR = 1.22, 95%CI： 0.59-2.50; fir = 1.82, 95%CI： 0.91-3.64, respectively）, while a substantially higher risk of CVD mortality only appeared in those with 3, 4, or 5 components （H_R = 2.81-3.72）, compared with those with no components. On evaluating the MetS components individually, we found that, independent of MetS, only hypertension and impaired glucose predicted higher mortality. Conclusions The number of positive MetS components seems no more informative than classifying （dichotomous） MetS for CVD risks assessment in this Chinese cohort.

Excessive electrolyte decomposition seriously determines the performance of high-voltage Mg batteries. In Nazar's work, the strategy using a zeolite polymer membrane as a protective interface was proposed to restrain the electrolyte decomposition.
