Application of graphite screen printed electrode modified with dysprosium tungstate nanoparticles in voltammetric determination of epinephrine in the presence of acetylcholine

The current work focuses on the development of a sensitive and selective electrochemical device based on a graphite screen printed electrode modified with Dy2（WO4）3 nanoparticles（DWO/SPE） for the analysis of epinephrine in samples also containing acetylcholine. The study proves that the sensor has excellent electron-mediating behavior in the oxidation of epinephrine in a 0.1 mol/L phosphate buffer solution（PBS）（pH 7.0）. The application of the DWO/SPE in differential pulse voltammetry（DPV） is found to lead to distinct response for the oxidation of epinephrine and acetylcholine, with the potentials of the epinephrine and acetylcholine peaks（△Ep） to be 550 mV apart. The detection limits of the method for epinephrine and acetylcholine are 0.5 and 0.7 μmol/L（S/N = 3） and the responses are found to be linear in the concentration ranges of 1.0-900.0 μmol/L and 1.0-1200.0 μmol/L in a PBS buffer（pH = 7.0）respectively. The modified electrode was used for the detection of epinephrine and acetylcholine in real samples and found to produce satisfactory results. These results can be a proof that Dy2（WO4）3 nanoparticles can find promising applications in electrochemical sensors to be used for the analysis of（bio）chemical species.

Black liquor is obtained as a by-product of the pulping process,which is used to convert biomass into pulp by removing lignin,hemicelluloses and other extractives from wood to free cellulose *** represents a major constituent in black liquor,with quantities varying from 20%to 30%,of which a very low share is used for manufacturing value-added products,while the rest is mainly burned for energy purposes,thus underestimating its great potential as a raw ***,it is essential to establish new isolation and extraction methods to increase lignin valorization in the development of bio-based *** aim of this research work was to determine the effect of KOH or ethanol concentration as an isolation agent on lignin yields and the chemical characteristics of lignin isolated from formacell black liquor of oil palm empty fruit bunch(OPEFB).Isolation of lignin was carried out using KOH with various concentrations ranging from 5%to 15%(w/v).Ethanol was also used to precipitate lignin from black liquor at concentrations varying from 5%to 30%(v/v).The results obtained showed that the addition of KOH solution at 12.5%and 15%concentrations resulted in better lignin yield and chemical properties of lignin,i.e.,pH values of 3.86 and 4.27,lignin yield of 12.78%and 14.95%,methoxyl content of 11.33%and 10.13%,and lignin equivalent weights of 476.25 and 427.03,*** to its phenolic structure and rich functional groups that are favorable for modifications,lignin has the potential to be used as a green additive in the development of advanced biocomposite products in various applications to replace current fossil fuel-based material,ranging from fillers,fire retardants,formaldehyde scavengers,carbon fibers,aerogels,and wood adhesives.

Synthesis,Structure,Photoluminescence and Thermal Expansion of a Rare Earth Formate Oxalate Framework

A new lanthanide formate oxalate framework [Eu（C2O4）（HCOO）]n （1） has been synthesized via hydrothermal method and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction （SC-XRD）. The framework crystallizes in the orthorhombic Pnma space group, with a = 7.0984（4）, b = 6.6442（3）, c = 10.6793（6）？, V = 503.68（4）？3, Z = 3, C3HO6Eu, Mr = 285.00 g/mol, Dc = 3.7581 g/cm3, F（000） = 520.3796, μ = 12.413 mm-1, the final R = 0.0264 and wR = 0.0628 for 797 observed reflections with I 〉 2σ（I）. The photoluminescence （PL） measurements reveal the significant red emission of the framework is dominated by the （5D0 → 7F2） electronic transition at 614 nm. Further variable-temperature powder X-ray diffraction （VT-PXRD） indicates that framework 1 shows slight negative thermal expansion （NTE） along the a-axis, and positive thermal expansion （PTE） along the b and c axes.

In this paper a square wavelet thresholding method is proposed and evaluated as compared to the other classical wavelet thresholding methods (like soft and hard). The main advantage of this work is to design and implement a new wavelet thresholding method and evaluate it against other classical wavelet thresholding methods and hence search for the optimal wavelet mother function among the wide families with a suitable level of decomposition and followed by a novel thresholding method among the existing methods. This optimized method will be used to shrink the wavelet coefficients and yield an adequate compressed pressure signal prior to transmit it. While a comparison evaluation analysis is established, A new proposed procedure is used to compress a synthetic signal and obtain the optimal results through minimization the signal memory size and its transmission bandwidth. There are different performance indices to establish the comparison and evaluation process for signal compression;but the most well-known measuring scores are: NMSE, ESNR, and PDR. The obtained results showed the dominant of the square wavelet thresholding method against other methods using different measuring scores and hence the conclusion by the way for adopting this proposed novel wavelet thresholding method for 1D signal compression in future researches.

The electrochemical oxidation of 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid （1） has been studied in the presence of 1,3- cyclopentadiene （2） as a diene in water/ethanol （40/60, v/v） mixture using cyclic voltammetry and controlled-potential coulometry. A plausible mechanism for the oxidation of 1 in the presence of 2 is presented. Compound 1 was converted into bis-adduct 5 via electrooxidation, Diels-Alder reaction of 2 to anodically generated 3,6-dioxocyclohexa-l,4-dienecarboxylic acid （lox）, decarboxylation reaction, electrooxidation and Diels-Alder reaction. The electrochemical synthesis of 5 was performed in a one- pot reaction, without toxic reagents, at a carbon electrode in a simple cell using an environmentally friendlv method.

Water pollution affects plants and organisms living in these bodies of water; and, in almost all cases the effect is damaging not only to individual species and populations, but also to the natural biological communities. Genetic algorithm and kernel partial least square （GA-KPLS） and Levenberg- Marquardt artificial neural network （L-M ANN） techniques were used to investigate the correlation between retention time （tR） and descriptors for 150 organic contaminants in natural water and wastewater, which are obtained by gas chromatography coupled to high-resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometry （GC-TOF MS）. The L-M ANN model gave a significantly better performance than the GA-KPLS model. This indicates that L-M ANN can be used as an alternative modeling toot for quantitative structure-retention relationship （QSRR） studies.

An ocean acidification-simulated system and its application in coral physiological studies

Due to the elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide, ocean acidification(OA) has recently emerged as a research theme in marine biology due to an expected deleterious effect of altered seawater chemistry on calcification. A system simulating future OA scenario is crucial for OA-related studies. Here, we designed an OA-simulated system(OASys) with three solenoid-controlled CO_2 gas channels. The OASys can adjust the pH of the seawater by bubbling CO_2 gas into seawaters via feedback systems. The OASys is very simple in structure with an integrated design and is new-user friendly with the instruction. Moreover, the OASys can monitor and record real-time pH values and can maintain pH levels within 0.02 pH unit. In a 15-d experiment, the OASys was applied to simulate OA in which the expected target pH values were 8.00, 7.80 and 7.60 to study the calcifying response of Galaxea fascicularis. The results showed daily mean seawater pH values held at pH 8.00±0.01, 7.80±0.01 and 7.61±0.01 over15 d. Correspondingly, the coral calcification of G. fascicularis gradually decreased with reduced pH.

Confining stresses serve as a pivotal determinant in shaping the behavior of grouted rock ***,prior investigations have oversimplified the three-dimensional stress state,primarily assuming hydrostatic stress *** these conditions,it is assumed that the intermediate principal stress(σ_(2))equals the minimum principal stress(σ_(3)).This assumption overlooks the potential variations in magnitudes of in situ stress conditions along all three directions near an underground opening where a rock bolt is *** this study,a series of push tests was meticulously conducted under triaxial *** tests involved applying non-uniform confining stresses(σ_(2)≠σ_(3))to cubic specimens,aiming to unveil the previously overlooked influence of intermediate principal stresses on the strength properties of rock *** results show that as the confining stresses increase from zero to higher levels,the pre-failure behavior changes from linear to nonlinear forms,resulting in an increase in initial stiffness from 2.08 kN/mm to 32.51 kN/*** load-displacement curves further illuminate distinct post-failure behavior at elevated levels of confining stresses,characterized by enhanced ***,the peak load capacity ranged from 27.9 kN to 46.5 kN as confining stresses advanced from σ_(2)=σ_(3)=0 to σ_(2)=20 MPa and σ_(3)=10 ***,the outcomes highlight an influence of confining stress on the lateral deformation of *** levels of confinement prompt overall dilation in lateral deformation,while higher confinements maintain a state of ***,diverse failure modes have been identified,intricately tied to the arrangement of confining *** confinements tend to induce a splitting mode of failure,whereas higher loads bring about a shift towards a pure interfacial shear-off and shear-crushed failure mechanism.
