Long-lived lunar volcanism sustained by precession-driven core-mantle friction

Core-mantle friction induced by the precession of the Moon's spin axis is a strong heat source in the deep lunar mantle during the early phase of a satellite's evolution, but its influence on the long-term thermal evolution still remains poorly explored. Using a one-dimensional thermal evolution model, we show that core-mantle friction can sustain global-scale partial melting in the upper lunar mantle until ～3.1 Ga, thus accounting for the intense volcanic activity on the Moon before ～3.0 Ga. Besides, core-mantle friction tends to suppress the secular cooling of the lunar core and is unlikely to be an energy source for the long-lived lunar core dynamo. Our model also favours the transition of the Cassini state before the end of the lunar magma ocean phase(～4.2 Ga), which implies a decreasing lunar obliquity over time after the solidification of the lunar magma ocean. Such a trend of lunar obliquity evolution may allow volcanically released water to be buried in the lunar regolith of the polar regions. As a consequence, local water ice could be more abundant than previously thought when considering only its accumulation caused by solar wind and comet spreading.

Rare earth element(REE)mining has wrought severe ecosystem destruction,particularly in the loss of carbon(C),nitrogen(N),and phosphorus(P).furthermore,its effects on nutrient recovery characteristics and associated microbial abundance are still poorly *** this study,an investigation was conducted to determine C,N,and P recovery patterns and microbial communities in abandoned REE mining tailings with different abandoned durations of 1.5(1.5-y),7(7-y),10(10-y),and 14(14-y)years and at an unmined site(the control group)in Jiangxi Province,*** tailing delamination at each site was investigated in 0–15(layer 1)and 15–30(layer 2)cm tailing *** the abandoned duration of REE tailings,C and P in layer 1 continued to recover from 1.62 to 8.51 g kg^(-1) and from 0.71 to 1.94 g kg^(-1),respectively;N losses of 0.60 and 0.22 g kg^(-1) occurred at the 1.5-y and 10-y sites,while N in layer 1 slightly increased at the 14-y ***,Methylosinus,Bradyrhizobium,Pseudomonas,and Azospirillum were dominant bacteria at the 14-y site and in the *** relative abundances of N-fixing bacteria Mesorhizobium(32.94%),Sinorhizobium(0.24%),frankia(0.71%),and Burkholderia(2.38%)at the 14-y site were 1.33–3.97 times those in the control(24.19%,0.18%,0.32%and 0.60%,respectively),which was helpful for tailing N *** the 14-y site,Tylospora(50.24%),Luellia(11.02%),Tomentella(6.94%),and Chaetomium(4.34%)were the dominant fungal genera,while Tylospora(56.93%),Suillus(11.45%),and Penicillium(6.78%)predominated in the *** relative abundance of the P-dissolving fungus Aspergillus at the 14-y site(0.42%)was 4.2 times that in the control(0.1%),which may lead to the improved tailing P *** the 14-y site,woody plants such as Pinus massoniana and native pioneering herbs and ferns such as Dicranopteris dichotoma and Nephrolepis auriculata probably invaded from adjacent *** study unraveled the natural restoration of plant and micro

Sulforaphane, a naturally specialized metabolite, plays significant roles in human disease prevention and plant defense. Myrosinase(My) is a key gene responsible for the catalysis of sulforaphane formation, but the molecular mechanisms through which My regulates sulforaphane biosynthesis in plants remains largely unknown. Here, we discovered that the change of sulforaphane content in broccoli sprouts caused by exogenous selenite treatments is positively related to BoMy expression. BoMy overexpression in the Arabidopsis thaliana tgg1 mutants could dramatically increase myrosinase activity and sulforaphane content in the rosette leaves of 35S::BoMy/tgg1 and rescue its ***, an obvious increase of myrosinase activity and sulforaphane content was displayed in transgenic BoMy-overexpressed broccoli *** addition, a 2 033 bp promoter fragment of BoMy was isolated. yeast one-hybrid(y1H) library screening experiment uncovered that one bHLH transcription factor, BofAMA, could directly bind to BoMy promoter to activate its expression, which was further evidenced by y1H assay and dual-luciferase reporter assay. BofAMA is a selenite-responsive transcription factor that is highly expressed in broccoli leaves;its protein is solely localized to nucleus. Additionally, genetic evidence suggested that the knockdown of fAMA gene in Arabidopsis thaliana could significantly decrease sulforaphane yield by inhibiting the expression of myrosinase genes. Interestingly, exogenous selenite supply could partially restore the low level of sulforaphane content in transgenic Arabidopsis fAMA-silencing plants. Our findings uncover a novel function of fAMAMy module in the regulation of selenite-mediated sulforaphane synthesis and provide a new insights into the molecular mechanism by which selenite regulates the accumulation of sulforaphane in plants.

Is Peer Victimization Associated with Higher Online Trolling among Adolescents? The Mediation of Hostile Attribution Bias and the Moderation of Trait Mindfulness

Background: In recent years, online trolling has garnered significant attention due to its detrimental effects on mental health and social well-being. The current study examined the influence of peer victimization on adolescent online trolling behavior, proposing that hostile attribution bias mediated this relationship and that trait mindfulness moderated both the direct and indirect effects. Methods: A total of 833 Chinese adolescents completed the measurements of peer victimization, hostile attribution bias, trait mindfulness, and online trolling. Moderated mediation analysis was performed to examine the relationships between these variables. Results: After controlling for gender and residential address, the study.f.und a significant positive correlation between peer victimization and online trolling, with hostile attribution bias serving as a mediator. In addition, trait mindfulness moderated the direct relationship between peer victimization and online trolling. Specifically, the effect of peer victimization on online trolling was attenuated when adolescents had high levels of trait mindfulness. The results of the study emphasized the joint role of peer and personal factors in adolescents’ online trolling behavior and provide certain strategies for intervening in adolescents’ online trolling behavior. Conclusion: The results of the study suggest that strategies focusing on peer support and mindfulness training can have a positive impact on reducing online trolling behavior, promoting adolescents’ mental health, and their long-term development. © 2024 The Authors.
